Evaluation of NASA GISS Post-CMIP5 Single Column Model Simulated Clouds and Precipitation Using ARM Southern Great Plains Observations 被引量:3

The planetary boundary layer turbulence and moist convection parameterizations have been modified recently in the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) Model E2 atmospheric general circulation model (GCM; post-CMIP5, hereafter P5). In this study, single column model (SCM_P5) simulated cloud fractions (CFs), cloud liquid water paths (LWPs) and precipitation were compared with Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Southern Great Plains (SGP) groundbased observations made during the period 2002-08. CMIP5 SCM simulations and GCM outputs over the ARM SGP region were also used in the comparison to identify whether the causes of cloud and precipitation biases resulted from either the physical parameterization or the dynamic scheme. The comparison showed that the CMIP5 SCM has difficulties in simulating the vertical structure and seasonal variation of low-level clouds. The new scheme implemented in the turbulence parameterization led to significantly improved cloud simulations in P5. It was found that the SCM is sensitive to the relaxation time scale. When the relaxation time increased from 3 to 24 h, SCM_P5-simulated CFs and LWPs showed a moderate increase (10%-20%) but precipitation increased significantly (56%), which agreed better with observations despite the less accurate atmospheric state. Annual averages among the GCM and SCM simulations were almost the same, but their respective seasonal variations were out of phase. This suggests that the same physical cloud parameterization can generate similar statistical results over a long time period, but different dynamics drive the differences in seasonal variations. This study can potentially provide guidance for the further development of the GISS model. 展开更多

This paper presents a single-site positioning method based on the joint estimation of propagation time-of-arrival(TOA) and direction-of-arrival(DOA), with the assist of virtual stations in the typical non-line-of-sight(NLOS) environment. Consider the influence of multipath noise on the positioning performance, the proposed method firstly presents a modified high-resolution estimation technique called Multipath noise Limiting Matrix Pencil(MLMP) algorithm to achieve the TOA/DOA estimations, in which the matrix pencil and matrix enhancement process are implemented to deal with the measurements from the uniform linear array(ULA) receiver. Meanwhile, the subspace dimension estimation is improved via an adaptive threshold, for enhancing the performance of high-resolution techniques in low signal-noise-ration(SNR) situation. Next the proposed method generates virtual stations utilizing the known floor plan of surrounding reflectors, and adopts a weighted Least Square(WLS) position estimator to calculate the required position, combining the TOA/DOA estimations with the location of virtual stations. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed method under NLOSconditions, and the results show that comparing with the multipath fingerprinting scheme, the proposed method has better performance in various simulation scenarios. 展开更多

A phenomenological model for predicting the vortex-induced motion (VIM) of a single-column platform with non- linear stiffness has been proposed. The VIM model is based on the couple of the Duffing-van der Pol oscillators and the motion equations with non-linear terms. The model with liner stiffness is presented for comparison and their results are compared with the experiments in order to calibrate the model. The computed results show that the predicted VIM amplitudes and periods of oscillation are in qualitative agreements with the experimental data. Compared with the results with linear stiffness, it is found that the application of non-linear stiffness causes the significant reductions in the in-line and transverse motion amplitudes. Under the non-linear stiffness constraint, the lock-in behavior is still identified at 8<Ur<15, and the trajectories of the VIM on the xy plane with eight-figure patterns are maintained. The results with different non-linear geometrically parameters show that both in-line and transverse non-linear characteristics can significantly affect the predict in-line and transverse motion amplitudes. Furthermore, the computed results for different aspect ratios indicate that the in-line and transverse motion amplitudes increase with the growth of aspect ratio, and the range of lock-in region is enlarged for the large aspect ratio. 展开更多

A single column model (SCM) is constructed by extracting the physical subroutines from the NCAR Community Climate Model version 1 (CCM1).Simulated data are generated by CCM1 and used to validate the SCM and to study the sensitivity of the SCM to errors in its input data.It is found that the SCM temperature predictions are moderately sensitive to errors in the input horizontal temperature flux convergence and moisture flux convergence.Two types of error are concerned in this study,random errors due to insufficient data resolution,and errors due to insufficient data area coverage.While the first type of error can be reduced by filtering and/or increasing the data resolution,it is shown that the second type of error can be reduced by enlarging the data area coverage and using a suitable method to compute the input flux convergence terms. 展开更多

Method provides calculation of azimuth, elevation and range data by using the position simulation results found by RKF. Errors of orbit determination are analysed. To realize the industrialization of the novel single-column air separation process proposed in previous work,steady-state simulation for four different configurations of the single-column process with ternary(nitrogen,oxygen and argon)is developed.Then,exergy analysis of the single-column processes is also carried out and compared with the conventional double-column air separation process at the same capacity.Furthermore,based on the steady-state simulation of single-column processes,the different heat exchanger networks(HENs)for the main heat exchanger and subcooler in each process are designed.To obtain better performance for this novel process,optimization of process configuration and operation is investigated.The optimal condition and configuration for this process is consisted as:feedstock is divided into two streams and the reflux nitrogen is compressed at the approximate temperature of 301 K.In addition,HEN is optimized to minimize the utilities.HENs without utilities are obtained for the four different configurations of single-column process.Furthermore,capital costs of the HEN for different cases are estimated and compared. 展开更多

Based on arrival time data of seismic phases of ML≥2. 0 earthquakes measured at Shanxi Digital Seismic Network for the period from January 2001 to October 2014,V_P/ V_S in the Shanxi region is calculated using the Wadati single station and multi-earthquake method,and an investigation is conducted into the variation behavior of V_P/ V_S in the Shanxi region before and after the three earthquakes of MS≥4. 5 in 2010. Our study finds that abnormal V_P/ V_S appeared earlier at distant stations before all of the three earthquakes,which is at the time range from 6 months to 1 year before the earthquakes,and later at near stations,at the time range 10 days to 2 months before earthquakes. Therefore,it  s possible to narrow down the scope of the location in earthquake prediction from the distant and near station data. The calculations of Dongshan seismic station indicate that the size of the residual of the origin time has impact on the detail of V_P/ V_S variation,thus,appropriate thresholds should firstly be set for the residuals of origin time at each seismic station in practical application,to ensure scientific and steady V_P/ V_S calculations. 展开更多

In order to check the reliability of computation theory and programme, model tests have been carried out. However, as space is limited, the conclusion of tests will be introduced in another paper. Electromagnetic response function for the semi-annual variations estimated by the single-station method using the night-time values of the geomagnetic fields

The geomagnetic night-time values were used to estimate the electromagnetic response function Q1 for half-year period. If the spatial structure of the source field can be described by the approximation, one can estimate the Q1 value using the single-station Z/H method. This technique enables us to carry out regional deep gcomagnetic sounding by the method. The data used for analyses are geomagnetic night-time values for about, typically, 26 years from 5 good-quality stations and for several years from 34 stations distributed over the globe. The results indicate that the night-time values yield more reliable response estimates for half-year period compared to the usual estimates obtained from daily means. It implies that the approximation for the night-time fields holds good for the half-year period, but the daily means are not suitable for estimating the response function of the semi-annual variations by using the single-station method. Source field analyses for daily means data and night-time means data have also been carried out in this paper. 展开更多

When, in a coal mine distribution network whose neutral point is grounded by an arc suppression coil (ASC), a fault occurs in the ASC, compensation cannot be properly realized. Furthermore, it can damage the safe and reliable run of the network. We first introduce a three-phase five-column arc suppression coil (TPFCASC) and discuss its autotracking compensation theory. Then we compare the single phase to ground fault of the coal mine distribution network with an open phase fault at the TPFCASC using the Thévenin theory, the symmetrical-component method and the complex sequence network respectively. The results show that, in both types of faults, zero-sequence voltage of the network will appear and the maximum magnitude of this zero-sequence voltage is different in both faults. Based on this situation, a protection for the open phase fault at the TPFCASC should be estab-lished. 展开更多

[目的]为了确保黄土地区洞桩法车站施工过程中重要竖向承重构件的稳定性,需要对施工过程中边桩和中柱的受力变形机理进行研究,并对最不利受力阶段边桩和中柱提出变形控制措施。[方法]以西安地铁2号线何家营站为研究背景,通过数值模拟与现场监测的方法,对施工过程中边桩的水平位移、钢筋内力、水平土压力及中柱应变展开研究。[结果及结论]扣拱施作以及站厅层和站台层土体开挖是边桩水平位移最不利的三个阶段,在这些关键阶段施工时,应在结构内部架设钢支撑并适当加固已扰动的地层;在桩梁和扣拱施作中,边桩主筋承受轴向压力,而在站内剩余土方施工阶段,边桩背土侧的钢筋由轴向压力逐渐转化为轴向拉力,且随着边桩埋深的增大,钢筋的轴向拉压力增长变缓;在扣拱初期支护施作中,土压力在边桩埋深6.6 m处达到最大值34.5 kPa,且随着边桩埋置深度增大,边桩的桩侧压力增长速率显著,因此车站内侧的土方开挖是控制边桩迎土侧土压力大小的关键阶段,必要时对桩后土体进行注浆加固有利于提高桩基的承载力;中跨扣拱施工时,中柱的应变呈现出先减小、后增大的趋势。 展开更多

鉴于己醇(HeOH)与乙酸正丁酯(BuAc)酯交换反应的不利动力学和热力学特性,采用基于过程强化的反应蒸馏装置是一条有利的途径。常规反应蒸馏塔(CRDC)虽然考虑了反应-分离操作之间的相互耦合,但却完全忽略了分离操作之间的相互耦合,必然导... 鉴于己醇(HeOH)与乙酸正丁酯(BuAc)酯交换反应的不利动力学和热力学特性,采用基于过程强化的反应蒸馏装置是一条有利的途径。常规反应蒸馏塔(CRDC)虽然考虑了反应-分离操作之间的相互耦合,但却完全忽略了分离操作之间的相互耦合,必然导致过大的不可逆性同时可进一步降低系统的稳态性能。单隔离壁反应蒸馏塔(R-SDWDC)的确在一定程度上考虑了分离操作之间的相互耦合,但其外部限定耦合方式致使仍然无法有效降低分离操作的不可逆性。本文基于本课题组最近提出的共强化原理给出了两种双隔离壁反应蒸馏塔(R-DDWDC)的拓扑结构,并将其与CRDC和R-SDWDC进行了深入系统的比较与分析。结果表明,R-DDWDC明显优于CRDC和R-SDWDC,是实施HeOH与BuAc酯交换反应的最佳拓扑结构。得出这一结论的根本原因在于R-DDWDC既能充分考虑分离操作之间的相互耦合,又能有效协调R-DDWDC与反应-分离操作耦合子系统的相互作用。虽然上述结论是通过具有最有利相对挥发度排序的HeOH与BuAc酯交换反应所得到的,但对于任何具有不利动力学与热力学特性的该类反应物系均具有普遍性的指导意义。 展开更多

为实现光电侦察设备对海面舰船目标单站无源定位,提出了对海面目标的高精度近实时光电单站无源定位方法。建立了单站无源定位方程,分析了目标定位误差,探讨了影响定位误差因素,给出了单站无源定位的应用建议。仿真结果表明:在17.899 km... 为实现光电侦察设备对海面舰船目标单站无源定位,提出了对海面目标的高精度近实时光电单站无源定位方法。建立了单站无源定位方程,分析了目标定位误差,探讨了影响定位误差因素,给出了单站无源定位的应用建议。仿真结果表明:在17.899 km距离处单站无源定位的定位误差约为1.672%R,单次定位时间约20 ms;位置、纬度、经度和高度误差分别服从N(299.31 m,197.39 m)、N(4.944×10^(-5°),2.665×10^(-3°))、N(4.038×10^(-5°),1.899×10^(-3°))、N(-0.485 m,14.165 m)的正态分布;俯仰角、方位角和目标高度的误差对定位精度影响较大,俯仰角在[-120°,-15°]范围内定位结果可靠,目标高度误差在[-200 m,200 m]范围内,定位误差小于800 m,实现了对海面目标的高精度近实时单站无源定位。提出的方法适用于具备高度参考面估计的海面、地面和空中目标的单站无源定位。 展开更多

在分析特重车辆作用下独柱墩连续箱梁弯桥倾覆倒塌事故的基础上,提出导致连续箱梁桥发生倾覆的重要原因是主梁在特重载偏心作用下产生侧倾与滑移的共同作用.以湖北省鄂州市发生倾覆落梁事故的三跨连续箱梁弯桥为工程背景,开展抗侧倾和... 在分析特重车辆作用下独柱墩连续箱梁弯桥倾覆倒塌事故的基础上,提出导致连续箱梁桥发生倾覆的重要原因是主梁在特重载偏心作用下产生侧倾与滑移的共同作用.以湖北省鄂州市发生倾覆落梁事故的三跨连续箱梁弯桥为工程背景,开展抗侧倾和抗滑移理论计算和有限元分析,提出桥梁整体化的抗滑移加固构造.结果表明,该桥梁具有较高的抗侧倾能力,但抗滑移能力明显不足,特重载偏心作用下产生的切向力显著大于支座的最大抗力,主梁极易发生滑移而倾覆.单纯增大桥梁抗侧倾能力的加固方法对提高主梁的抗倾覆效果不佳,应同时增加桥梁的抗滑移能力.该桥梁采用整体化抗滑移加固构造后,具有较强的抗滑移和抗侧倾能力,在特重载偏心作用下主梁不会发生倾覆破坏. 展开更多
