INITIAL LAYER PHENOMENA FOR A CLASS OF SINGULAR PERTURBED NONLINEAR SYSTEM WITH SLOW VARIABLES

The initial layer phenomena for a class of singular perturbed nonlinear system with slow variables are studied. By introducing stretchy variables with different quantity levels and constructing the correction term of initial layer with different 'thickness', the N-order approximate expansion of perturbed solution concerning small parameter is obtained, and the 'multiple layer' phenomena of perturbed solutions are revealed. Using the fixed point theorem, the existence of perturbed solution is proved, and the uniformly valid asymptotic expansion of the solutions is given as well.

Adaptive Optimal Output Regulation of Interconnected Singularly Perturbed Systems With Application to Power Systems

This article studies the adaptive optimal output regulation problem for a class of interconnected singularly perturbed systems(SPSs) with unknown dynamics based on reinforcement learning(RL).Taking into account the slow and fast characteristics among system states,the interconnected SPS is decomposed into the slow time-scale dynamics and the fast timescale dynamics through singular perturbation theory.For the fast time-scale dynamics with interconnections,we devise a decentralized optimal control strategy by selecting appropriate weight matrices in the cost function.For the slow time-scale dynamics with unknown system parameters,an off-policy RL algorithm with convergence guarantee is given to learn the optimal control strategy in terms of measurement data.By combining the slow and fast controllers,we establish the composite decentralized adaptive optimal output regulator,and rigorously analyze the stability and optimality of the closed-loop system.The proposed decomposition design not only bypasses the numerical stiffness but also alleviates the high-dimensionality.The efficacy of the proposed methodology is validated by a load-frequency control application of a two-area power system.

Wavelet Multi-Resolution Interpolation Galerkin Method for Linear Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems

In this study,a wavelet multi-resolution interpolation Galerkin method(WMIGM)is proposed to solve linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems.Unlike conventional wavelet schemes,the proposed algorithm can be readily extended to special node generation techniques,such as the Shishkin node.Such a wavelet method allows a high degree of local refinement of the nodal distribution to efficiently capture localized steep gradients.All the shape functions possess the Kronecker delta property,making the imposition of boundary conditions as easy as that in the finite element method.Four numerical examples are studied to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposedwavelet method.The results showthat the use ofmodified Shishkin nodes can significantly reduce numerical oscillation near the boundary layer.Compared with many other methods,the proposed method possesses satisfactory accuracy and efficiency.The theoretical and numerical results demonstrate that the order of theε-uniform convergence of this wavelet method can reach 5.

A Dimension-Splitting Variational Multiscale Element-Free Galerkin Method for Three-Dimensional Singularly Perturbed Convection-Diffusion Problems

By introducing the dimensional splitting(DS)method into the multiscale interpolating element-free Galerkin(VMIEFG)method,a dimension-splitting multiscale interpolating element-free Galerkin(DS-VMIEFG)method is proposed for three-dimensional(3D)singular perturbed convection-diffusion(SPCD)problems.In the DSVMIEFG method,the 3D problem is decomposed into a series of 2D problems by the DS method,and the discrete equations on the 2D splitting surface are obtained by the VMIEFG method.The improved interpolation-type moving least squares(IIMLS)method is used to construct shape functions in the weak form and to combine 2D discrete equations into a global system of discrete equations for the three-dimensional SPCD problems.The solved numerical example verifies the effectiveness of the method in this paper for the 3D SPCD problems.The numerical solution will gradually converge to the analytical solution with the increase in the number of nodes.For extremely small singular diffusion coefficients,the numerical solution will avoid numerical oscillation and has high computational stability.

THE UNIFORM CONVERGENCE OF A DG METHOD FOR A SINGULARLY PERTURBED VOLTERRA INTEGRO-DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION

The purpose of this work is to implement a discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method with a one-sided flux for a singularly perturbed Volterra integro-differential equation(VIDE)with a smooth kernel.First,the regularity property and a decomposition of the exact solution of the singularly perturbed VIDE with the initial condition are provided.Then the existence and uniqueness of the DG solution are proven.Then some appropriate projection-type interpolation operators and their corresponding approximation properties are established.Based on the decomposition of the exact solution and the approximation properties of the projection type interpolants,the DG method achieves the uniform convergence in the L2 norm with respect to the singular perturbation parameter e when the space of polynomials with degree p is used.A numerical experiment validates the theoretical results.Furthermore,an ultra-convergence order 2p+1 at the nodes for the one-sided flux,uniform with respect to the singular perturbation parameter e,is observed numerically.

A singularly perturbed reaction diffusion problem for the nonlinear boundary condition with two parameters

A class of singularly perturbed initial boundary value problems of reaction diffusion equations for the nonlinear boundary condition with two parameters is considered. Under suitable conditions, by using the theory of differential inequalities, the existence and the asymptotic behaviour of the solution for the initial boundary value problem are studied. The obtained solution indicates that there are initial and boundary layers and the thickness of the boundary layer is less than the thickness of the initial layer.

THE NONLINEAR SINGULARLY PERTURBED PROBLEMS FOR REACTION DIFFUSION EQUATIONS WITH TIME DELAY

A CLASS OF SINGULARLY PERTURBED GENERALIZED BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR QUASI-LINEAR ELLIPTIC EQUATION OF HIGHER ORDER

The singularly perturbed generalized boundary value problems far the quasi- linear elliptic equation of higher order are considered. Under suitable conditions, the existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behavior of the generalized solution for the Dirichlet problems are studied.

Singularly perturbed solution for weakly nonlinear equations with two parameters

A class of singularly perturbed boundary value problems of weakly non linear equation for fourth order on the interval [a, b] with two parameters is considered. Under suitable conditions, firstly, the reduced solution and formal outer solution are constructed using the expansion method of power series. Secondly, using the transformation of stretched variable, the first boundary layer corrective term near x = a is constructed which possesses exponential attenuation behavior. Then, using the stronger transformation of stretched variable, the second boundary layer corrective term near x = a is constructed, wtfich also possesses exponential attenuation behavior. The thickness of second boundary layer is smaller than the first one and forms a cover layer near x = a. Finally, using the theory of differential inequalities, the existence, uniform validity in the whole interval [a, b] and asymptotic behavior of solution for the original boundary value problem are proved. Satisfying results are obtained.

A Class of Nonlinear Nonlocal Singularly Perturbed Reaction Diffusion Systems

The singularly perturbed initial boundary value problems for the reaction diffusion system are raised. Firstly, under suitable conditions, using a iteration technique, the differential inequalities theorem is constructed and introducing two auxiliary functions the existence and uniqueness theorem of solution for the basic reaction diffusion system is proved. Using the singularly perturbed method the formal asymptotic expressions of the solution are constructed with power series theory. By using the comparison theorem the existence and its asymptotic behavior of solution for the original problem are studied. Finally, using method of estimate inequalities, the structure of solutions for the problem is discussed thoroughly in three cases and asymptotic solution of the original problem is given. The asymptotic behavior of solution in the three cases is proved.
