The exceptional properties of graphene make it ideal as a reinforcement to enhance the properties of aluminum matrices and this critically depends on uniform dispersion. In this study, the dispersion issue was addressed by sonication and non-covalent surface functionalization of graphite nanoplatelets(GNPs) using two types of surfactant: anionic(sodium dodecyl benzene sulfate(SDBS)) and non-ionic polymeric(ethyl cellulose(EC)). After colloidal mixing with Al powder, consolidation was performed at two sintering temperatures(550 and 620°C). The structure, density, mechanical and wear properties of the nanocomposite samples were investigated and compared with a pure Al and a pure GNPs/Al nanocomposite sample. Noticeably, EC-based 0.5 wt% GNPs/Al samples showed the highest increment of 31% increase in hardness with reduced wear rate of 98.25% at 620°C, while a 22% increase in hardness with reduced wear rate of 96.98% at 550°C was observed, as compared to pure Al. Microstructural analysis and the overall results validate the use of EC-based GNPs/Al nanocomposites as they performed better than pure Al and pure GNPs/Al nanocomposite at both sintering temperatures. 展开更多

Li-Zn mixed ferrites with composition formula ZnxLi0.5-x/2Fe2.5-x/2O4 (0.2≤x≤0.8) were prepared by the usual ceramic method in 1000~1150℃. The effects of Zn substitution and sintering temperature on the formation, densification, microstructure and a.c. electrical conductivity have been studied. Under the effect of changing the firing temperature and Zn content, high sintered Li-Zn ferrite bodies are achieved. More fine structure bodies having high electrical resistance are obtained at high Zn content 展开更多

Perovskite-like bulk La_1/3Nd_1/3Ca_1/3MnO_3 is prepared by solid phase reaction method. The temperature dependence of the magnetization and the relationship between CMR effect and sintering have been studied. The CMR is up to 673.9% under 1 T applied magnetic field and 100 K temperature, and that also reaches 93.5% in 0.2 T and 100 K. 展开更多

The ablation of sintered silicon carbide ceramics by an ArF excimer laser was studied. Three zones are generated: the ablation zone that presented molten morphology and was composed by the Si and C phase; the condensation zone formed by vaporized SiC; and the oxidation zone that showed the characteristics of thermal oxidation. The ablation depth and oxidation range increase linearly with fluence and pulses within 0.5-4 J/cm2, but the normalized ablation efficiency is constant (3.60± 0.60 μm · mm2/J). The theoretical photochemical ablation depth supplies 25% of the total depth at 1 J/cm2 but decreases to 16% at 4 J/cm2. The ablation is dominated by the photothermal effect and conforms to the thermal evaporation mechanism. 展开更多

Pilbara blending iron ore powder (PB powder) is blending ores with good and poor quality iron ores, so how to use PB power effectively is a problem. The self-characteristics of PB powder and its single-components were studied respectively such as the macroscopic properties, microscopic properties, and high-temperature properties the behavior and effect in the sintering were mastered. Then based on the new ore-proportioning idea of iron ores sintering characteristics complementary, the principles on the effective use of PB powder were discussed, and was fur ther validated through the sintering pot test and industrial production. The results show that PB powder is composed of three kinds of iron ore, and the sintering characteristics of different iron ores are obviously discrepant. With the ore-proportioning optimization based on the iron ores sintering characteristics complementary, the proportion of PB iron ore powder can be increased to more than 45 %. 展开更多
