Monitoring shear deformation of sliding zones is of great significance for understanding the landslide evolution mechanism,in which fiber optic strain sensing has shown great potential. However, the cor-relation between strain measurements of quasi-distributed fiber Bragg grating(FBG)sensing arrays and shear displacements of surrounding soil remains elusive. In this study,a direct shear model test was conducted to simulate the shear deformation of sliding zones,in which the soil internal deformation was captured using FBG strain sensors and the soil surface deformation was measured by particle image velocimetry(PIV).The test results show that there were two main slip surfaces and two secondary ones, developing a spindle-shaped shear band in the soil. The formation of the shear band was successfully captured by FBG sensors.A sinusoidal model was proposed to describe the fiber optic cable deformation behavior. On this basis, the shear displacements and shear band widths were calculated by using strain measurements. This work provides important insight into the deduction of soil shear deformation using soil-embedded FBG strain sensors. 展开更多

This work is concerned with the development and optimization of a signal model for scalable perceptual audio coding at low bit rates. A complementary two-part signal model consisting of Sines plus Noise (SN) is described. The paper presents essentially a fundamental enhancement to the sinusoidal modeling component. The enhancement involves an audio signal scheme based on carrying out overlap-add sinusoidal modeling at three successive time scales, large, medium, and small. The sinusoidal modeling is done in an analysis-by-synthesis overlap- add manner across the three scales by using a psychoacoustically weighted matching pursuits. The sinusoidal modeling residual at the first scale is passed to the smaller scales to allow for the modeling of various signal features at appropriate resolutions. This approach greatly helps to correct the pre-echo inherent in the sinusoidal model. This improves the perceptual audio quality upon our previous work of sinusoidal modeling while using tile same number of sinusoids. Tile most obvious application for the SN model is in scalable, high fidelity audio coding and signal modification. 展开更多

Modification on time scale and pitch scale of Chinese syllable based on sinusoidal model is presented in this paper. Firstly, the short term speech is decomposed into a sum of sinusoidal waves of different magnitudes and phases. Then vocal tract system and excitation are obtained using a homomophic technique. Lastly, the speech with desired time scale and pitch scale is obtained through the change of frequency and phase of excitation while the parameters of vocal tract system are changed accordingly. The results show that the adjustable scale of pitch and time scale is big using this algorithm and it is suitable to be used in analysis and synthesis of Chinese speech. 展开更多

It is generalized that the force is directly proportional to a power function of the distance in a classical spring-oscillator system. The differential equation of the generalized model was given. Simulations were conducted with different power values. The results show that the solution of the generalized equation is a periodic function. The expressions of the amplitude and the period(frequency) of the generalized equation were derived by the physical method. All the simulation results coincide with the calculation results of the derived expressions. A special function also was deduced and proven to be convergent in the theoretical analysis. The limit value of the special function also was derived. The generalized model can be used in solving a type of differential equation and to generate periodic waveforms. 展开更多

To make the multiple descriptions codec adaptive to the packet loss rate, which can minimize the final distortion, a novel adaptive multiple descriptions sinusoidal coder (AMDSC) is proposed, which is based on a sinusoidal model and a noise model. Firstly, the sinusoidal parameters are extracted in the sinusoidal model, and ordered in a decrease manner. Odd indexed and even indexed parameters are divided into two descriptions. Secondly, the output vector from the noise model is split vector quantized. And the two sub-vectors are placed into two descriptions too. Finally, the number of the extracted parameters and the redundancy between the two descriptions are adjusted according to the packet loss rate of the network. Analytical and experimental resuits show that the proposed AMDSC outperforms existing MD speech coders by taking network loss characteristics into account. Therefore, it is very suitable for unreliable channels 展开更多

A Bark-band residual noise model integrated with the human hearing mechanism is proposed to efficiently complement sinusoidal model in parametric audio coding. The time-varying spectrum of the residual noise is retrieved by Bark-scale piecewise constant magnitude estimates along with random phases. In the proposed noise model, Bark bands information is obtained by short-time FFT method and window overlap-add technique is exploited to remove boundary discontinuities. SVQ is also incorporated into parameter quantization process for the low bit-rate coding demand. Simulation results and informal listening tests show that when the sinusoidal model is combined with the Bark-band noise model, better synthesis audio quality can be achieved compared with the original sinusoidal modeling audio codec. 展开更多

In this paper, we suggest applying tree structure on the sinusoidal parameters. The suggested sinusoidal coder is targeted to find the coded sinusoidal parameters obtained by minimizing a likelihood function in a least square (LS) sense. From a rate-distortion standpoint, we address the problem of how to allocate available bits among different frequency bands to code sinusoids at each frame. For further analyzing the quantization behavior of the proposed method, we assess the quantization performance with respect to other methods: the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) based coder commonly used for speech enhancement or separation, and the line spectral frequency (LSF) coder used in speech coding. Through extensive simulations, we show that the proposed quantizer leads to less spectral distortion as well as higher perceived quality for the re-synthesized signals based on the coded parameters in a model-based approach with respect to previous STFT-based methods. The proposed method lowers the complexity, and, due to its tree-structure, leads to a rapid search capability. It provides flexibility for use in many speaker-independent applications by finding the most likely frequency vectors selected from a list of frequency candidates. Therefore, the proposed quantizer can be considered an attractive candidate for model-based speech applications in both speaker-dependent and speaker-independent scenarios. 展开更多

Lattice thermal conductivity, κL, is a fundamental parameter for evaluating the performance of thermoelectric materials. However, the predicted value of κL based on the Debye dispersion model is often overestimated compared with the experimentally determined value. Many researchers have attempted to modify the theoretical model and have sought more reliable results. In this review, the recent progress in the study of phonon dispersion models is summarized and we propose that the lattice thermal conductivity can be most accurately determined by using the modified sinusoidal phonon dispersion model. Moreover, experimental methods that have the potential to reduce a thermoelectric material's κLare reviewed, for example, methods that generate standing waves or anharmonic lattice vibrations. A high concentration of standing waves and anharmonic lattice vibrations can effectively suppress excessive κL. Finally, this review presents the challenges of sinusoidal phonon dispersion when applied to real materials, which are often complicated and therefore time-consuming, especially when dealing with material defects. 展开更多

Unvoiced/voiced classification of speech is a challenging problem especially under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratio or the non-white-stationary noise environment. To solve this problem, an algorithm for speech classification, and a technique for the estimation of palrwise magnitude frequency in voiced speech am proposed. By using third order spectrum of speech signal to remove noise, in this algorithm the least spectrum difference to get refined pitch and the max harmonic number is given. And this algorithm utilizes spectral envelope to estimate signal-to-noise ratio of speech harmonics. Speech classification, voicing probability, and harmonic parameters of the voiced frame can be obtained. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm, under complicated background noise, especially Gaussian noise, can effectively classify speech in high accuracy for voicing probability and the voiced parameters. 展开更多
