The reinforcements include as-received Mg2B2O5 whiskers and Mg2B2O5 whiskers coated with CuO and ZnO. The volume fraction of the composites is 2%. The relationship between the wear rate and the coefficient of friction was discussed. The results indicate that the wear rate of the Mg2B2O5 whiskers coated with ZnO reinforced aluminum matrix composites is the lowest among the materials. As the applied load and sliding speed steadily increase the coefficients of friction and wear rates of the as-received matrix alloy and the fabricated composites decrease. As the applied load and sliding speed increase, the wear mechanisms of the composites shift from a mild to a severe regime.展开更多

The microstructure and worn surfaces of the studied alloys were characterized by optical microscopy(OM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The experimental results indicate that the alloy refined by Al-5Ti-B alloy exhibits equiaxed α(Al) dendrites and performs better wear resistance compared with the alloy without the grain refiner. Moreover, the addition of Mn can change the β-Al5 Fe Si phase to α-Al(Mn,Fe)Si phase and reduce the possibility of crack formation, thus improving the wear resistance. Sn added to A356 aluminum alloy forms Mg2 Sn precipitates after heat treatment. Therefore, the unrealizable precipitation hardening Mg2 Si phase and the softening β-Sn phase can reduce the hardness of the alloy, and finally reduce the wear resistance.展开更多

The wear rate increases with increasing the load; the mild-to-severe wear transitions occur under the loads of 275 N at 25 °C, 150 N at 100 °C and 75 N at 200 °C, respectively. However, as the load is less than 50 N, the wear rate at 200 °C is lower than that at 25 °C or 100 °C. In mild wear regimes, the wear mechanisms can be classified into abrasive wear, oxidation wear and delamination wear. Delamination wear prevailed as the mild-to-severe wear transition starts to occur; the delamination occurs from the inside of matrix. Subsequently, plastic-extrusion wear as severe wear prevails accompanied with the transition. The thick and hard tribo-layer postpones the mild-to-severe wear transition due to restricting the occurrence of massive plastic deformation of worn surfaces.展开更多

The dry sliding wear tests were carried out with a pin-on-disk wear tester. The results show that the wear rate of the rheocast alloy is lower than that of the alloy produced by conventional casting process under the same applied load. The fine particle-likeδ-Al4(Fe,Mn)Si2 and polygonalα-Al15(Fe,Mn)3Si2 phases help to improve the wear resistance of rheocast alloys. As the volume fraction of fine Fe-bearing compounds increases, the wear rate of the rheocast alloy decreases. Moreover, the wear rate of rheocast alloy increases with the increase of applied load from 50 to 200 N. For the rheocast alloy with 3% Fe, oxidation wear is the main mechanism at low applied load (50 N). At higher applied loads, a combination of delamination and oxidation wear is the dominant wear mechanism.展开更多

The result shows, the main phases in both as sprayed and heat treated Fe Al/WC composite coatings are iron aluminide intermetallics (Fe 3Al+FeAl) and α as well as a little oxide (Al 2O 3) and carbides (WC, W 2C, Fe 2W 2C and Fe 6W 6C). After heat treated at 450-650 ℃, dispersion strengthening of Fe 2W 2C and Fe 6W 6C will lead to a rise in microhardness of the coatings. The microhardness is likely to be the most important factor which influences the sliding wear behavior of the coatings. Increasing the microhardness through heat treatment will improve the sliding wear resistance of the Fe Al/WC composite coatings.展开更多

The effect of sliding speed on friction coefficient and wear of the coating was studied. The worn surface of the coating was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) to explore sliding friction and wear mechanism. The results show that the variations of friction coefficient can be divided into three distinct steps during the trail. Both the friction coefficient and the wear of the coating increase with increased sliding speed due to accelerated crack propagation rate and lamellar structure with poor ductility of the coating. The coating surface is subjected to alternately tensile stress and compression stress during sliding wear process, and the predominant wear mechanism of the coatings appears to be brittle fracture and delamination.展开更多

The mass fraction of CNTs was varied from 0 to 2% in a step of 0.5%. The developed nanocomposites were subjected to density, hardness, electrical conductivity, and friction and wear tests. The results reveal that the density of nanocomposite decreases with the increase of the mass fraction of CNTs. A significant improvement in the hardness is noticed in the nanocomposite with the addition of CNTs. The developed nanocomposites show low coefficient of friction and improved wear resistance when compared with unreinforced alloy. At an applied load of 5 N, the coefficient of friction and wear loss of 2%CNTs reinforced Cu-Sn alloy nanocomposite decrease by 72% and 68%, respectively, compared with those of Cu-Sn alloy. The wear mechanisms of worn surfaces of the composites are reported. In addition, the electrical conductivity reduces with the increase of the content of CNTs.展开更多

A series of tests were performed at the loads of 20-100 N and rotating speeds of 127-425 r/min for 2 h. The friction coefficient and wear rate were monitored by the wear apparatus, while the microstructures of the worn surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Through the investigation of the morphologies of the wom surfaces under the magnetic field, it is found that the MR particles are clearly evident on the wom surface and the plastic flow of ridges causes the lateral extrusion. This directly indicates that abrasive wear is the predominant wear mechanism observed with MR fluid.展开更多

文摘An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the influence of heat treatment at 300 ℃,450 ℃,550 ℃,650 ℃ and 800 ℃ on the microstructure and sliding wear behavior of Fe Al/WC intermetallic composite coatings produced by high velocity arc spraying (HVAS) and cored wires. Increasing the microhardness through heat treatment will improve the sliding wear resistance of the Fe Al/WC composite coatings.

文摘Tribological behavior and wear mechanisms of mechanically milled Al5083 alloy and Al5083−5wt.%B4C composite at room temperature and 200°C were discussed. Results revealed that due to the oxidative wear at room temperature,a mechanically mixed layer(MML)was formed to protect the surface of the samples.Under 80 N of load at room temperature, the milled Al5083 and the Al5083−5wt.%B4C samples showed evidence of abrasion with limited volume loss.In this case, the wear rates were 5.8×10−7 and 4.4×10−7 mm3/(m·N),respectively.At 200°C and under 80 N of applied load, severe wear occurred in the milled Al5083 sample, and wear rate reached 10.8×10−7 mm3/(m·N)while the Al5083−5wt.%B4C sample showed mild wear with local 3-body abrasion and the wear rate reached 5.3×10−7 mm3/(m·N).Strengthening mechanisms such as dislocation pinning and the Hall−Petch theory, high hardness and the load transfer effect were crucial in determining the wear behavior of the Al5083−5wt.%B4C composite. On the other hand, the milled Al5083 sample represented a relatively high wear rate at 200°C,which seemed to be related to the local grain growth and a drop in its hardness.

文摘The friction and wear behavior of Fe Al intermetallics based coating produced by high velocity arc spraying technique under dry sliding at room temperature were investigated using a ball on disc tribotester. The coating surface is subjected to alternately tensile stress and compression stress during sliding wear process, and the predominant wear mechanism of the coatings appears to be brittle fracture and delamination.
文摘The dry sliding wear behavior of AA6061/ZrB2 in-situ composite prepared by the reaction of inorganic salts K2ZrF6 and KBF4 with molten aluminum was investigated. An attempt was made to develop a mathematical model to predict the wear rate of AA6061/(0-10%) ZrB2 in-situ composites.Four-factor,five-level central composite rotatable design was used to minimize the number of experiments. The factors considered are sliding velocity, sliding distance, normal load and mass fraction of ZrB2 particles. The effect of these factors on the wear rate of the fabricated composite was analyzed and the predicted trends were discussed by observing the wear surface morphologies. The in-situ formed ZrB2 particles enhance the wear performance of the composite. The wear rate of the composite bears a proportional relationship with the sliding velocity, sliding distance and normal load.
文摘Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) reinforced Cu-Sn alloy based nanocomposite was developed by powder metallurgy route. In addition, the electrical conductivity reduces with the increase of the content of CNTs.

文摘The sleeve sealing ball seat is one of the important components in the multistage fracturing process of horizontal wells. The erosion and wear of the surface will decrease the sealing performance of the fracturing ball and the ball seat. This leads to pressure leakage during the fracturing process and fracturing failure. In this paper, combined with the actual ball seat materials and working conditions during the fracturing process, the erosion tests of ductile iron and tungsten carbide materials under different erosion speeds, angles, and mortar concentrations are carried out. Then the erosion test results were analyzed by mathematical fitting, and a set of erosion models suitable for sliding sleeve setting ball seat materials were innovatively established. For the first time, this paper combines the erosion model obtained from the experiment and the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)with Fluent software to simulate the erosion of the ball seat.Based on the simulation results, the morphology of the sliding sleeve seat ball after erosion is predicted.Through analysis of the test and simulation results,it is showed that the erosion rate of tungsten carbide material is lower and the wear resistance is better under the condition of small angle erosion. This research can offer a strong basis for fracturing site selection, surface treatment methods, and prediction of failure time of ball seats.

文摘Wear behaviors of a peak-aged Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy fabricated by powder metallurgy were investigated. The results indicated that the friction coefficients and the wear rates of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy within a normal load range of 50−700 N and a sliding speed range of 0.05−2.58 m/s were less than 0.14 and 2.8×10−6 mm3/mm,respectively.Stribeck-like curve and wear map were developed to describe the oil-lubrication mechanism and wear behavior. The equation of the dividing line between zones of safe and unsafe wear life was determined.Lubricating oil was squeezed into micro-cracks under severe wear conditions. In addition, the lubricating oil reacted with Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy to generate the corresponding sulfides, which hindered the repair of micro-cracks,promoted cracks growth, and led to delamination. This work has established guidelines for the application of the Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy under oil-lubricated conditions through developing wear map.

文摘The microstructure and dry sliding wear performance of as-cast TiCp/Ti-1100-0.5Nb composite at 25℃,500℃ and 600℃ were systematically investigated. Results show that the solidification matrix microstructure is the typical Widmanst?tten structure. The eutectic TiC particles are uniformly distributed in the matrix in the form of feathery, long rod and strip-like shapes.Meanwhile, the interface between TiC and titanium matrix is clear and without any reaction. The wear rate of TiCp/Ti-1100-0.5Nb at 600℃ and 500℃ is reduced by 95.8%and 79.9%,respectively,compared with that of the value of 51.8×10^-6 mm^3·mm^-1 at 25℃.The friction coefficient of the steady-state period at 25℃,500℃,600℃ is 0.48,0.8,1.2,respectively,and the variation extent of the friction coefficient at elevated temperatures is greater than at 25℃.The wear mechanism is changed from the mixture of adhesive wear and abrasive wear to mild oxidation wear with rising temperature. It can also be concluded that the composite possesses excellent high temperature wear resistance. The high-wear resistance of the composite is attributed to the Fe2O3 and TiO2.The presence of Fe2O3 and TiO2 reduces the wear rate, increases the friction coefficient, and also improves the range-ability of the friction coefficient.

文摘A pin-on-disc wear apparatus was used to carry out the tribological experiment of brass to investigate the effect of a magnetorheological (MR) fluid on the interfacial surface with and without magnetic field. A series of tests were performed at the loads of 20-100 N and rotating speeds of 127-425 r/min for 2 h. The friction coefficient and wear rate were monitored by the wear apparatus, while the microstructures of the worn surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, the chemical composition of worn surfaces was analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Test results show different friction and wear performance of the MR fluid with and without magnetic field. At the same time, the effects of various normal loads and rotating speeds on the tribological behavior were investigated. Through the investigation of the morphologies of the wom surfaces under the magnetic field, it is found that the MR particles are clearly evident on the wom surface and the plastic flow of ridges causes the lateral extrusion. This directly indicates that abrasive wear is the predominant wear mechanism observed with MR fluid.
文摘The dry sliding wear properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sliding against GCr15 steel under different velocities(between 0.2 and 1.2 m/s)and applied loads(from 30 to 90 N)were tested using a pin on disk tester in air. The wear occurred on both surfaces of the tested couplings. The wear rate of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy ranged from 23.0 to 123.8 mg/km. The wear of Ti-6Al-4V samples was in severe wear. The wear rate of Ti-6Al-4V samples increased with the increasing of load and shows a minimum on the curves of wear rate versus sliding velocity. SEM morphologies of worn surfaces and debris were observed. Phases in the debris were analyzed by means of XRD spectra.
