The power grid architecture in these regions is typically not sufficiently strong, and the energy structure is relatively simple. Thus, connecting large-capacity wind power units complicates the peak load regulation and stable operation of the power grids in these regions. Most wind turbines use power electronic converter technology, which affects the safety and stability of the power grid differently compared with conventional synchronous generators. Furthermore, fluctuations in wind power cause fluctuations in the output of wind farms, making it difficult to create and implement suitable power generation plans for wind farms. The generation technology and grid connection scheme for wind power and conventional thermal power generation differ considerably. Moreover, the active and reactive power control abilities of wind turbines are weaker than those of thermal power units, necessitating additional equipment to control wind turbines. Hence, to address the aforementioned issues with large-scale wind power generation, this study analyzes the differences between the grid connection and collection strategies for wind power bases and thermal power plants. Based on this analysis, the differences in the power control modes of wind power and thermal power are further investigated. Finally, the stability of different control modes is analyzed through simulation. The findings can be beneficial for the planning and development of large-scale wind power generation farms.展开更多

The efficiency of the existing electrical grid can be automated by integrating with innovative technical equipment such as:?high-tech forecasting system, digital sensors, advanced two-way communication and two-way power flow systems. Smart grid establishes an interface between utility and consumer which helps to use energy, based on the preferences of price, eco-friendly and without technical system issues. It empowers the grid to be more secure, reliable and efficient. The peer-reviewed articles and published government reports have been reviewed, based on the analysis of technical characteristics of power generation systems, eco-friendly sources of power generations, cost reduction, functionality and design of traditional grid versus smart grid. Furthermore, the innovative technologies that enable the grid to integrate with decentralized power generation system efficiently have been considered. This paper claims that in this modern era, it is arduous for traditional grid to fulfill the rising demand of electricity, along with sustainable, eco-friendly and stable power supply, as it cannot be efficiently integrated with decentralized and localized power generation systems and renewable energy sources. The result of this paper shows that decentralized and localized power generation systems are located close to end-users which decrease the transmission and supply cost of electricity. Innovative technologies allow the decentralized and localized power generation systems to be integrated with renewable energy sources which help to reduce the cost of utility services and provide clean energy. The evolution of current conventional or centralized generation in form of distributed generation and Smart Power Grid (SPG) has great opportunity and potentially can eradicate several issues associated with energy efficiency, energy security and the drawback of aging power system infrastructures. In order to meet the rising electrical power demand and increasing service quality as well as reducing pollution, the existing power grid infrastructure should be developed into Smart Grid (SG) that is flexible for interconnectivity with the distributed generation. However, integrating distributed generation to power system causes several technical issues especially system stability. To make the power grid become “smarter”, particularly in terms of stability, Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) device especially Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is used. This paper explores Smart Grid technologies and distributed generation systems. Furthermore, it discusses the impact of distributed generation on Smart Grid, particularly its system stability after installing distributed generation in the Smart Grid. This was done by examining the system stability during interconnection and faults on the system and validated with Dig-SILENT Power Factory Software V 13.2.展开更多

It can motivate customers to change their consumption patterns according to the dynamic(time-varying) electricity price, which is considered to be the most cost-effective and reliable solution for smoothing the demand curve. However, many existing schemes, based on users' demand request in each period, require users to consume their requested electricity exactly, which sometimes causes inconvenience and losses to the utility, because customers cannot always be able to consume the accurate electricity demand due to various personal reasons. In this paper, we tackle this problem in a novel approach. Instead of charging after consumption, we adopt the prepayment mechanism to implement power request. Furthermore, we propose a trading market running by the control center to cope with the users' dynamic demand. It is noteworthy that both users' original demand and trading records are protected against potential adversaries including the curious control center. Through the numerical simulation, we demonstrate that our scheme is highly efficient in both computation and communication.展开更多

Renewable energy sources are a promising part of the solution but uncertainty combined with a lack of controllability prevents renewable sources of power from being direct substitutes of conventional energy sources. This shift towards a higher penetration of renewable energy into the electric grid can be realized with the implementation of a more sophisticated smart grid, which uses dynamic demand response to alter demand on following generation. Research on renewable energy penetration of the grid predominately focuses on wind and solar power resources but demand cannot always match availability from these sources and therefore greatly increases the need for energy storage. Tidal power differs from solar and wind. It’s a predictably renewable resource which makes it extremely valuable even on a relatively small scale. Introduction of tidal power in a high penetration micro-grid can serve to stabilize the grid and reduce the amount of storage required. Widely different time scale for wind, solar and tidal power availability results in low cross correlations and therefore increases stability. This research describes an incremental approach to migrating a grid-tie island towards the formation of a smart-micro grid. The system will include a high penetration of three distributed generation systems, wind, solar and tidal and utilize commercially available energy storage and a smart-home management controller. Dynamic demand response through load balancing is implemented to minimize interactions with the electric grid. A second component of this work is to determine the optimum tidal generation capacity for the micro grid such that needed storage capacity from batteries or the utility grid is minimized.展开更多

The findings can be beneficial for the planning and development of large-scale wind power generation farms.

Challenges including climate change, escalating energy prices, energy security and energy efficiency are converging to drive fundamental change in the way energy is produced, delivered and utilized. The electricity system of the future must produce and distribute electricity that is reliable, affordable and clean. To accomplish these goals, both the electricity grid and the existing regulatory system must be smarter. 文摘Smart grid is an idea of upgradation of the traditional electric grid infrastructure. Moreover, technological advancement played a decisive role in enabling the electrical system to be more efficient. Electrical reliability can be improved,?greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced, renewable energy sources can efficiently be integrated,?and?rising demand for electricity can be met by embedding advanced applications and technological equipment in the electrical grid.

文摘In the 21st century Smart Grid and Renewable Energy technologies are an important issue with regards to global climate change problem and energy security. This was done by examining the system stability during interconnection and faults on the system and validated with Dig-SILENT Power Factory Software V 13.2.
文摘Typically, smart grid systems enhance the ability of conventional power system networks as it is vulnerable to several kinds of attacks. These vulnerabil-ities might cause the attackers or intruders to collapse the entire network system thus breaching the confidentiality and integrity of smart grid systems. Thus, for this purpose,Intrusion detection system(IDS)plays a pivotal part in offering a reliable and secured range of services in the smart grid framework.Several exist-ing approaches are there to detect the intrusions in smart grid framework, however they are utilizing an old dataset to detect anomaly thus resulting in reduced rate of detection accuracy in real-time and huge data sources. So as to overcome these limitations, the proposed technique is presented which employs both real-time raw data from the smart grid network and KDD99 dataset thus detecting anoma-lies in the smart grid network. In the grid side data acquisition, the power trans-mitted to the grid is checked and enhanced in terms of power quality by eradicating distortion in transmission lines. In this approach, power quality in the smart grid network is enhanced by rectifying the fault using a FACT device termed UPQC(Unified Power Quality Controller)and thereby storing the data in cloud storage. The data from smart grid cloud storage and KDD99 are pre-pro-cessed and are optimized using Improved Aquila Swarm Optimization(IASO)to extract optimal features. The probabilistic Recurrent Neural Network(PRNN)classifier is then employed for the prediction and classification of intrusions. At last, the performance is estimated and the outcomes are projected in terms of grid voltage, grid current,Total Harmonic Distortion(THD),voltage sag/swell,accu-racy,precision,recall,F-score,false acceptance rate(FAR),and detection rate of the classifier. The analysis is compared with existing techniques to validate the proposed model efficiency.

文摘There are numerous internet-connected devices attached to the industrial process through recent communication technologies, which enable machine-to-machine communication and the sharing of sensitive data through a new technology called the industrial internet of things(IIoTs).Most of the suggested security mechanisms are vulnerable to several cybersecurity threats due to their reliance on cloud-based services, external trusted authorities, and centralized architectures;they have high computation and communication costs, low performance, and are exposed to a single authority of failure and bottleneck.Blockchain technology(BC)is widely adopted in the industrial sector for its valuable features in terms of decentralization, security, and scalability. In our work,we propose a decentralized, scalable, lightweight, trusted and secure private network based on blockchain technology/smart contracts for the overhead circuit breaker of the electrical power grid of the Al-Kufa/Iraq power plant as an industrial application. The proposed scheme offers a double layer of data encryption, device authentication, scalability, high performance, low power consumption, and improves the industry’s operations;provides efficient access control to the sensitive data generated by circuit breaker sensors and helps reduce power wastage. We also address data aggregation operations, which are considered challenging in electric power smart grids. We utilize a multi-chain proof of rapid authentication(McPoRA)as a consensus mechanism, which helps to enhance the computational performance and effectively improve the latency. The advanced reduced instruction set computer(RISC)machinesARMCortex-M33 microcontroller adopted in our work,is characterized by ultra-low power consumption and high performance,as well as efficiency in terms of real-time cryptographic algorithms such as the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm(ECDSA).This improves the computational execution, increases the implementation speed of the asymmetric cryptographic algorithm and provides data integrity and device authenticity at the perceptual layer. Our experimental results show that the proposed scheme achieves excellent performance, data security,real-time data processing, low power consumption(70.880 mW),and very low memory utilization(2.03%read-only memory(RAM)and 0.9%flash memory)and execution time(0.7424 s)for the cryptographic algorithm. This enables autonomous network reconfiguration on-demand and real-time data processing.

文摘Demand response has been intensively studied in recent years. Through the numerical simulation, we demonstrate that our scheme is highly efficient in both computation and communication.
文摘In the past decade, several efforts around the world were started with the goal of introducing "smart metering" capabilities into the power grid. These efforts have spurred renewed interest in the design of next generation Narrowband Power Line Communications(NB-PLC) transceivers. In the past few years,ITU-T and IEEE have standardized a family of next generation OFDM-based NB-PLC transceivers some of which are today being considered for massive deployments in Europe and Asia. This paper addresses the important role that PLC has not only for smart metering but also for many other Smart Grid applications, and also gives an overview of the main differences between these next generation NB-PLC standards.
文摘Conventional electricity generation is one of the largest contributors to climate change. A second component of this work is to determine the optimum tidal generation capacity for the micro grid such that needed storage capacity from batteries or the utility grid is minimized.

文摘The increasing use of renewable energy in the power system results in strong stochastic disturbances and degrades the control performance of the distributed power grids. In this paper,a novel multi-agent collaborative reinforcement learning algorithm is proposed with automatic optimization,namely,Dyna-DQL,to quickly achieve an optimal coordination solution for the multi-area distributed power grids. The proposed Dyna framework is combined with double Q-learning to collect and store the environmental samples. This can iteratively update the agents through buffer replay and real-time data. Thus the environmental data can be fully used to enhance the learning speed of the agents. This mitigates the negative impact of heavy stochastic disturbances caused by the integration of renewable energy on the control performance.Simulations are conducted on two different models to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The results demonstrate that the proposed Dyna-DQL algorithm exhibits superior stability and robustness compared to other reinforcement learning algorithms.
