The types, contents and morphologies of crystalline Fe oxides and their relations to phosphate adsorptionon the clay fractions in soils with variable charge in southern China were investigated by means of XRD, TEM,EMA and chemical analysis methods. Results indicated that the types and contents of crystalline Fe oxidesvaried with the soils examined. The dominant crystalline Fe oxide was hematite in the latosols and goethitesin the red soils. In yellow-brown soils, the only crystalline Fe oxide was goethite. The difference between Aldand Alo came mainly from the Al substituting for Fe in the pe oxides. The crystal morphology of goethiteappeared mainly as subrounded flat or iso-dimensional rather than acicular particles. Hematites occurredin plates of various thickness. Their MCDa/MCDc ratios in the latosols and red soils were generally above1.5 and below 1.5, respectively. The MCD values of goethites and hematites were 15-25nm and 20-35nm,and their specific surface areas were 80-120m ̄2/g and 35-75m ̄2/g, respectively. The goethite crystals weregenerally smaller. Variations of the total amounts of crystalline Fe oxi es in clay fractions were not related tophosphate adsorption. The types, contents and morphologies of crystalline Fe oxides in the soils remarkablyaffected phosphate adsorption characteristics of the soils. The phosphate adsorption of goethite was muchgreater than that of hematite. The higher the MCD /MCDc rotio of hematite, the lower the phosphateadsorption. 展开更多

The relationship between iron oxides and surface charge characteristics in variable charge soils ( latosol and red earth ) was studied in following three ways. ( 1 ) Remove free iron oxides ( Fed ) and amorphous iron oxides ( Feo ) from the soils with sodium dithionite and acid ammonium oxalate solution respectively. ( 2 ) Add 2% glucose ( on the basis of air-dry soil weight ) to soils and incubate under submerged condition to activate iron oxides, and then the mixtures are dehydrated and air-dried to age iron oxides. ( 3 ) Precipitate various crystalline forms of iron oxides onto kaolinite. The results showed that free iron oxides ( Fed ) were the chief carrier of variable positive charges. Of which crystalline iron oxides ( Fed-Feo ) presented mainly as discrete particles in the soils and could only play a role of the carrier of positive charges, and did little influence on negative charges. Whereas the amorphous iron oxides ( Feo ) , which presented mainly as a coating with a large specific surface area, not only had positive charges, but also blocked the negative charge sites in soils. Submerged incubation activated iron oxides in the soils, and increased the amount of amorphous iron oxides and the degree of activation of iron oxide, which resulted in the increase of positive and negative charges of soils. Dehydration and air-dry aged iron oxides in soils and decreased the amount of amorphous iron oxides and the degree of activation of iron oxide, and also led to the decrease of positive and negative charges. Both the submerged incubation and the dehydration and air-dry had no significant influence on net charges. Precipitation of iron oxides onto kaolinite markedly increased positive charges and decreased negative charges. Amorphous iron oxide having a larger surface area contributed more positive charge sites and blocked more negative charge sites in kaolinite than crystalline goethite. 展开更多

The removal of organic matter and iron oxides could increase and decrease soil CEC in tropical and subtropical regions, but the quantitative information is insufficient so far about the change of soil CEC, the influence factors and their contribution. In this study, the subhorizon soils of 24 soil series in the tropical and subtropical China were used, pH, particle size composition, organic matter, iron oxides of these samples were measured, and also CECs were measured and compared for the original soils and after the removal of organic matter and iron oxides. The results showed that, compared with CEC of the original soil, the eliminating organic matter increased soil CEC significantly by 2.28% - 56.50% with a mean of 24.02%, but the further obliterating iron oxides decreased soil CEC significantly by 0.75% - 20.30% with a mean of 7.73%. CEC after the removal of organic matter and iron oxides had positive correlation with iron oxides (p < 0.01) and negative correlation with sand content (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05). CEC after organic matter eliminated was mainly decided by iron oxides (51.68%), followed by silt content (22.19%);while CEC after iron oxides obliterated was mainly determined by iron oxides (50.55%). The increase of CEC after organic matter eliminated was co-affected by the contents of clays, slits, iron oxides and pH (22.00% - 27.34%), while the decrease of CEC after iron oxides obliterated further was dominated by the content of organic matter (66.92%). More other soil parameters should be considered for higher predicting accuracy in the regression model of soil CEC after the removal of organic matter and iron oxides, and the recommended optimal models obtained in this study were as follows: for soil CEC after organic matter eliminated, CEC = 1.665 <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span> 0.546pH <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span> 0.024OM + 0.053FexOy <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span> 0.001Silt + 0.007Clay + 0.972CECoriginal (R2 was 0.923, RSME was 1.55 cmol(+)<span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8729;</span></span>kg<span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span></span>1, p < 0.01), while for soil CEC after iron oxides further obliterated, CEC = 1.665 <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span> 0.546pH <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span> 0.024OM + 0.053FexOy <span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span> 0.001Silt + 0.007Clay + 0.972CECoriginal (R2 was 0.923, RMSE was 1.55 cmol(+)<span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8729;</span></span>kg<span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;">&#8722;</span></span>1, p < 0.01). Soil aggregates determine the basic structure of soil, and their composition and stability are influenced by the various types of cementitious substances occurring in soil.To explore the main limiting factors of soil aggregation in the process of vegetation succession with granite as the parent material, five stages of vegetation succession in an eroded area were selected:bare land(BL),grassland(GL),grassland shrub transition land(GS),shrubland(SL)and secondary forest(SF).Soil samples were collected to determine the composition and stability of aggregates. The contents of organic and inorganic cementitious substances, including organic matter components and iron aluminum oxides, were determined at five soil aggregate grain levels. The results indicated that the stability of soil aggregates and the>0.25 mm water-stable aggregate content(WR_(0.25))increased with vegetation succession.Based on the Le Bissonnais(LB)method, the mean weight diameter(MWD)of soil aggregates increased, and the relative dissipation index(RSI)and relative mechanical crushing index(RMI)decreased. The humic acid(HA)and fulvic acid(FA)contents in soil aggregates increased with vegetation succession, and the soil humus content at the SF stage increased by more than 13.54%over the BL level.Upon different vegetation succession stage, the iron and aluminum oxides for the SL and the SF were at a high level, and the contents of free-form iron oxide(Fe_(d))and amorphous iron oxide(Fe_(o))for BL were high.Correlation analysis indicated that the soil humic degree(PQ)and the contents of amorphous alumina(Al_(o))were positively correlated with aggregate stability to varying degrees.Redundancy analysis(RDA)revealed that PQ values of 1-2 mm(PQ_(2))and 0.25-0.5 mm(PQ_(4))aggregates,the contents of Fe_(o) of bulk soil(Fe_(oB)),>2 mm(Fe_(o1)),1-2 mm(Fe_(o2)),and<0.25 mm(Fe_(o5))aggregates,and the contents of Al_(o) of>2 mm(Al_(o1))aggregates could explain 99.4%of the changes in soil aggregate stability at different vegetation succession stages.Al_(o1) had a contribution rate of 71.2%and is the key factor for improving the stability of soil aggregates. 展开更多

The contribution of iron and aluminum oxides to electrokinetic characteristics of variable charge soils was studied through determination of electrophoretic mobilities of the red soils treated with either removal of iron oxides or coating of aluminum oxides, and of those deferrated under natural conditions. After removal of the iron oxides, zeta potentials of the latosol and the red earth decreased obviously with a shift of IEP to a lower pH, from 6.4 to 5.3 and 4.1 to 2.4 for the former and the latter, respectively, and the electrokinetic change for the latosol was greater than for the red earth. Zeta potentials of the kaolinite sample increased markedly after coated with iron oxides. The striking effect of iron oxides on electrokinetic properties of the soils was also demonstrated by the electrokinetic differences between the samples from the red and white zones of a plinthitic horizon formed naturally, and between the samples from the gley and bottom horizons of a paddy soil derived from a red earth. The coatings of aluminum oxides on the latosol and the yellow earth made their zeta potentials rise pronouncedly and their IEPs move toward higher pHs, from 6.2 to 6.8 and 4.3 to 5.3 for the former and the latter, respectively. The samples with different particle sizes also exhibited some electrokinetic variation. The experiment showed that the effects of iron and aluminum oxides were closely related to the pH and type of the soils. 展开更多

Next to CO2, methane (CH4) is the second important contributor to global warming in the atmosphere and global atmospheric CH4 budget depends on both CH4 sources and sinks. Unsaturated soil is known as a unique sink for atmospheric CH4 in terrestrial ecosystem. Many comparison studies proved that forest soil had the biggest capacity of oxidizing atmospheric CH4 in various unsaturated soils. However, up to now, there is not an overall review in the aspect of atmospheric CH4 oxidation (consumption) in forest soil. This paper analyzed advances of studies on the mechanism of atmospheric CH4 oxidation, and re-lated natural factors (Soil physical and chemical characters, temperature and moisture, ambient main greenhouse gases con-centrations, tree species, and forest fire) and anthropogenic factors (forest clear-cutting and thinning, fertilization, exogenous aluminum salts and atmospheric deposition, adding biocides, and switch of forest land use) in forest soils. It was believed that CH4 consumption rate by forest soil was limited by diffusion and sensitive to changes in water status and temperature of soil. CH4 oxidation was also particularly sensitive to soil C/N, Ambient CO2, CH4 and N2O concentrations, tree species and forest fire. In most cases, anthropogenic disturbances will decrease atmospheric CH4 oxidation, thus resulting in the elevating of atmos-pheric CH4. Finally, the author pointed out that our knowledge of atmospheric CH4 oxidation (consumption) in forest soil was insufficient. In order to evaluate the contribution of forest soils to atmospheric CH4 oxidation and the role of forest played in the process of global environmental change, and to forecast the trends of global warming exactly, more researchers need to studies further on CH4 oxidation in various forest soils of different areas. 展开更多

A laboratory incubation experiment was conducted to investigate nitrous oxide(N 2O) emission and reduction in a paddy soil(Stagnic Anthrosol) response to the pretreatment of water regime. The paddy soil was maintained under either air dried(sample D) or submerged(sample F) conditions for 110 d before the soil was adjusted into soil moisture of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% water holding capacity(WHC) respectively, and then incubated with or without 10%(v/v) acetylene for 138 h at 25℃. At lower soil water content (≤60% WHC), N 2O emission from the sample F was 2 29 times higher than that from the sample D( P <0 01). While, N 2O emission from the sample F was only 29 and 14 percent of that from the sample D at the soil moisture of 80% and 100% WHC, respectively( P <0 01). The maximal N 2O emissions observed at soil moisture of 80% WHC were about 24 and 186 times higher than the minima obtained at the soil moisture of 20% WHC for the sample F and D, respectively. But at the soil moisture of 80% and 100% WHC, N 2O emission from the sample F with acetylene(F+ACE) was comparable to that of the sample D with acetylene (D+ACE). The results showed that the F sample produced N 2O ability in denitrification was similar to the sample D, however, the sample F was in the better reduction of N 2O to N 2 than the sample D even after the soil moisture was adjusted into the same level of 80% or 100% WHC. Therefore, the pretreatment of water regime influenced the strength and product composition of denitrification and N 2O emission from the paddy soil. 展开更多

Many studies have focused on various agricultural management measures to reduce agricultural nitrous oxide (N2O) emission. However, few studies have investigated soil N2O emissions in intercropping systems in the North China Plain. Thus, we conducted a ifeld experiment to compare N2O emissions under monoculture and maize-legume intercropping systems. In 2010, ifve treatments, including monocultured maize (M), maize-peanut (MP), maize-alfalfa (MA), maize-soybean (MS), and maize-sweet clover (MSC) intercropping were designed to investigate this issue using the static chamber technique. In 2011, M, MP, and MS remained, and monocultured peanuts (P) and soybean (S) were added to the trial. The results showed that total production of N2O from different treatments ranged from (0.87&#177;0.12) to (1.17&#177;0.11) kg ha-1 in 2010, while those ranged from (3.35&#177;0.30) to (9.10&#177;2.09) kg ha-1 in 2011. MA and MSC had no signiifcant effect on soil N2O production compared to that of M (P&lt;0.05). Cumulative N2O emissions from MP in 2010 were signiifcantly lower than those from M, but the result was the opposite in 2011 (P&lt;0.05). MS signiifcantly reduced soil N2O emissions by 25.55 and 48.84%in 2010 and 2011, respectively (P&lt;0.05). Soil N2O emissions were signiifcantly correlated with soil water content, soil temperature, nitriifcation potential, soil NH4+, and soil NO3-content (R2=0.160-0.764, P&lt;0.01). A stepwise linear regression analysis indicated that soil N2O release was mainly controlled by the interaction between soil moisture and soil NO3-content (R2=0.828, P&lt;0.001). These results indicate that MS had a coincident effect on soil N2O lfux and signiifcantly reduced soil N2O production compared to that of M over two growing seasons. 展开更多

Effects of nitrogen fertilizer, soil moisture and temperature on methane oxidation in paddy soil were investigated under laboratory conditions. Addition of 0.05 g N kg-1 soil as NH4Cl strongly inhibited methane oxidation and addition of the same rate of KCl also inhibited the oxidation but with more slight effect, suggesting that the inhibitory effect was partly caused by increase in osmotic potential in microorganism cell. Not only NH but also NO greatly affected methane oxidation.Urea did not affect methane oxidation in paddy soil in the first two days of incubation, but strong inhibitory effect was observed afterwards.Methane was oxidized in the treated soil with an optimum moisture of 280 g kg-1, and air-drying inhibited methane oxidation entirely. The optimum temperature of methane oxidation was about 30℃in paddy soil, while no methane oxidation was observed at 5℃or 50℃ 展开更多

Specific management of water regimes, soil and N in China might play an important role in regulating N2O and CH4 emissions in rice fields. Nitrous oxide and methane emissions from alternate non-flooded/flooded paddies were monitored simultaneously during a 516-day incubation with lysimeter experiments. Two N sources (15N-(NH4)2SO4 and 15N-labeled milk vetch) were applied to two contrasting paddies: one derived from Xiashu loess (Loess) and one from Quaternary red clay (Clay). Both N2O and CH4 emissions were significantly higher in soil Clay than in soil Loess during the flooded period. For both soil, N2O emissions peaked at the transition periods shortly after the beginning of the flooded and non-flooded seasons. Soil type affected N2O emission patterns. In soil Clay, the emission peak during the transition period from non-flooded to flooded conditions was much higher than the peak during the transition period from flooded to non-flooded conditions. In soil Loess, the emission peak during the transition period from flooded to non-flooded conditions was obviously higher than the peak during the transition period from non-flooded to flooded conditions except for milk vetch treatment. Soil type also had a significant effect on CH4 emissions during the flooded season, over which the weighted average flux was 111 mg C m-2 h-1 and 2.2 mg C m-2 h-1 from Clay and Loess, respectively. Results indicated that it was the transition in the water regime that dominated N2O emissions while it was the soil type that dominated CH4 emissions during the flooded season. Anaerobic oxidation of methane possibly existed in soil Loess during the flooded season. 展开更多

X-ray diffraction and selective chemical dissolution methods were used to investigate the composition of Mn oxide minerals in Fe-Mn nodules of several main types of soils in China. The changes of relative intensity of X-ray diffraction patterns were studied both before and after chemically selective dissolution. It was found that lithiophorite was a common Mn oxide in all examined Fe-Mn nodules. Todorokite, however, was a predominant Mn oxide in Fe-Mn nodules in caf-aquic Vertisols of Linyi, Shandong Province. The Fe-Mn nodules of arp-udic Luvisols in Wuhan and Zaoyang, Hubei Province, contained birnessite and vernadite. Hollandite was found in Fe-Mn nodules of alt-udic Ferrisols of Yizhang, Hunan Province; arp-udic Luvisols of Zaoyang, Hubei Province; and cal-aquic Vertisols of Linyi, Shandong Province. The Fe-Mn nodules in alt-udic Ferrisols of Guiyang, Hunan Province, had a few coronadites. Mineralogy of Mn oxide minerals in soil Fe-Mn nodules was related to soil environment, soil types and quantities of relevant cations. 展开更多

A study on the distribution of free iron and manganese oxides was conducted in soils developed on calcareous alluvial deposits under subhumid climatic conditions, in Western Greece. Soil samples from two well drained soils and from two poorly drained soils, classified as Alfisols, were collected and used in this study. After certification of soil homogeneity the acid ammonium oxalate and dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate methods were used to extract free iron and manganese oxides from the samples. Iron oxides extracted by the dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate method (Fed) were significantly higher than the iron oxides extracted by the ammonium oxalate method (Feo), indicating that a considerable fraction is present in crystalline forms, independent of drainage status. A confirmation of free iron oxides and fine clay was detected. The ratios Feo/Fed and (Fed-Feo)/total Fe (Fet) could not be used to distinguish the well drained soils from the poorly drained soils. Manganese movement in a soluble form is independent of the fine clay. 展开更多

Soil samples were taken from depth of 0-12cm in the virgin broad- leaved/Korean pine mixed forest in Changbai Mountain in April, 2000. 20 μL·L-1 and 200 μL·L-1 CH4 and N2O concentration were supplied for analysis. Laboratory study on CH4 oxidation and N2O emission in forest soil showed that fresh soil sample could oxidize atmospheric methane and product N2O. Air-dried soil sample could not oxidize atmospheric methane, but could produCt N2O. However, it could oxidize the supplied methane quickly when its concentration was higher than 20 μL·L-1. The oxidation rate of methane was increased with its initial concentration. An addition of water to dry soil caused large pulse of N2O emissions within 2 hours. There were curvilinear correlations between N2O emission and temperature (r2=0.706, p <0.05), and between N2O emission andtwater content (r2=0.2968. p <0.05). These suggested temperature and water content were important factors controlling N2O emission. The correlation between CH4 oxidization and temperature was also found while CH4 was supplied 200 μL·L-1 (r2 =0.3573, p<0.05). Temperature was an important f8Ctor controlling CH4 oxidation. However, when 20 μL·L-1 CH4 was supplied, there was no correlation among CH4 oxidization, N2O emission, temperature and water content. 展开更多

The preliminary measurements of nitrous oxide fluxes from the ornithogenic soils on tropical Xi-sha atoll were made using a closed chamber technique for the first time. N_2O fluxes from the ornithogenic soils ranged from 1 8 to 40 3 μg/(m^2\5h) on Dong Island and 3 2 to 20 4 μg/(m^2·h) on Yongxing Island and their flux averaged 11 0 μg/(m^2·h) and 8 3 μg/(m^2·h), respectively. N_2O fluxes from two wetland sites in salt marsh of Dong Island were approximately one order of magnitude lower than those from the ornithogenic soils and averaged 2 1 μg/(m^2·h) and 2 4 μg/(m^2·h). The diurnal variation cycle in the fluxes was obtained at the observation sites; the N_2O flux increased with the increase in soil temperature. The sudden increase in soil moisture greatly stimulated N_2O emission from the ornithogenic soils on Dong Island due to the heavy rainfall. The undisturbed soils showed the lower N_2O fluxes and the average was 4 8 μg/(m^2·h) and the soils via the reclamation showed the higher N_2O fluxes and the average was 16 6 μg/(m^2·h) on Yongxing Island, suggesting that the changes of land use have an important effect on N_2O fluxes from the ornithogenic soils. In addition, the N_2O fluxes at the different sites showed high spatial variations. The fluxes were positively correlated with the concentrations of NO^-_3, PO~ 3- _4 and Mn in the soils. The negative correlation between the fluxes and total S concentration in the ornithogenic soils was also found for the first time. Coastal soils or sediments constitute an important source of global atmospheric N_2O and the increases in nitrogen loading from seabird guanos will lead to significant increases in the flux of this atmospherically active gas. 展开更多

Methane oxidation by paddy soils in a closed system could be simulsted by the equation where xo and x are the CH4 concentrations at time zero and t, respectively; k1 and k2 are constants related to the constant of first-order-kinetics. According to the equation the change of soil ability to oxidize CH4 could be estimated by the equstion The results showed that the soil ability to oxidize CH4 varied, depending on the initial CH4 concentration.High initial CH4 concentration stimulated soil ability to consume CH4, while low concentration depressed the ability. This characteristic of paddy soil seemed to be of considerable significance to self-adjusting CH4 emission from flooded rice fields if there exist oxic microsites in the soil. 展开更多

The diversification of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) communities and their potential nitrification activity (PNA) on a large scale have not been well documented. In this work, seven paddy soils from different geographic regions in Sichuan, P. R. China were selected to determine the spatial distribution of the activities, abundances and community compositions of AOB and AOA. PNA varied greatly among paddy soils, and was positively correlated with soil pH (P< 0.05). The abundance of AOA was 81.1 to 1 670.0 times more than that of AOB, which indicates paddy soil environments favor the growth of AOA. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis fingerprints of amoA genes exhibited distinct spatial differences in AOA compositions rather than in AOB compositions. Sequencing analysis revealed that acidic soils were dominated by AOA within marine group 1.1 a-associated lineage, whereas the soil group 1.1b lineage AOA predominated in neutral and alkaline soils. Both nitrosopira cluster 3-like and Nitrosomonas cluster 7-like AOB dominated the AOB communities in the paddy soils. Redundancy analysis suggested that soil NH4^+-N content was the most significant driver determining the AOB community structure, while no significant correlation between AOA community structure and soil properties was found. The findings highlight that the activity and composition of ammonia oxidizers exhibit spatial variations in complex paddy fields due to the joint influence of soil variables associated with pH and N availability. 展开更多

Graphene oxide(GO),a carbon nanomaterial that is widely used in the environment and other industries, may pose potential risks to ecosystems, especially the soil ecosystem. Some soils in Northeast China are frequently polluted with cadmium(Cd) metal. However, there is no study on the influence of GO on the Cd-contaminated soil microbial community and soil chemical properties. In this study,Cd(100 mg kg^(-1))-polluted soils were treated with different concentrations of GO(0,25,50,150,250,and 500 mg L^(-1),expressed as T1,T2,T3,T4,T5,and T6,respectively) for 40 days. The treatment without Cd pollution and GO served as the control(CK).Then,we investigated the influence of the GO concentrations on the bacterial community and chemical properties of Cd-polluted Haplic Cambisols, the zonal soil in Northeast China. After GO addition, the richness and diversity indexes of the bacterial community in Cd-contaminated Haplic Cambisols initially increased by 0.05-33.92% at 25 mg L^(-1),then decreased by0.07-2.37% at 50 mg L^(-1),and then increased by 0.01-24.37%within 500 mg L^(-1) again. The species and abundance of bacteria varied with GO concentration, and GO significantly increased bacterial growth at 25 and 250 mg L^(-1).GO treatments influenced the bacterial community structure, and the order of similarity of the bacterial community structure was as follows:T4=T5> T1=T6> T2> T3> CK.Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria were the dominant bacteria, accounting for 36.0% and 26.2%,respectively,of soil bacteria.Different GO treatments also significantly affected the metabolic function of bacteria and further influenced the diversity of the bacterial community structure by affecting several key soil chemical properties:soil pH,organic matter and available potassium, phosphorus, and cadmium. Our results provide a theoretical basis for scientific and comprehensive evaluation of the environmental impacts of GO on the zonal forest soils of Northeast China. 展开更多

Ammonia oxidation, the first and rate-limiting step of nitrification, is carried out by both ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA). However, the relative importance of AOB and AOA to nitrification in terrestrial ecosystems is not well understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the nitrogen input amount on abundance and community composition of AOB and AOA in red paddy soil. Soil samples of 10-20 cm (root layer soil) and 0-5 cm (surface soil) depths were taken from a red paddy. Rice in the paddy was fertilized with different rates of N as urea of N1 (75 kg N ha" yr-1), N2 (150 kg N ha~ yrl), N3 (225 kg N ha1 yrl) and CK (without fertilizers) in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Abundance and community composition of ammonia oxidizers was analyzed by real-time PCR and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) based on amoA (the unit A of ammonia monooxygenase) gene. Archaeal amoA copies in N3 and N2 were significantly (P〈0.05) higher than those in CK and N1 in root layer soil or in surface soil under tillering and heading stages of rice, while the enhancement in bacterial amoA gene copies with increasing of N fertilizer rates only took on in root layer soil. N availability and soil NO3--N content increased but soil NH4+-N content didn't change with increasing of N fertilizer rates. Otherwise, the copy numbers of archaeal amoA gene were higher (P〈0.05) than those of bacterial amoA gene in root lary soil or in surface soil. Redundancy discriminate analysis based on DGGE bands showed that there were no obvious differs in composition of AOA or AOB communities in the field among different N fertilizer rates. Results of this study suggested that the abundance of ammonia-oxidizers had active response to N fertilizer rates and the response of AOA was more obvious than that of AOB. Similarity in the community composition of AOA or AOB among different N fertilizer rates indicate that the community composition of ammonia-oxidizers was relatively stable in the paddy soil at least in short term for three years. 展开更多

The stabilization of severely As-polluted soil has been a challenge, especially for the extremely toxic As(Ⅲ) contaminants. In this study, soil with a high As concentration(26084 mg/kg) was availably stabilized by a H2O2 pre-oxidation assisted TMT-15(Na3S3C3N3 solution with a mass fraction of 15%) and FeCl3·6 H2O stabilization method. The results showed that the combination of the two stabilizers(i.e., TMT-15 and FeCl3·6 H2O) presented a better stabilization behavior than either stabilizer used individually. The use of the H2O2 pre-oxidation assisted TMT-15 and FeCl3·6 H2O stabilization approach not only converted the As(Ⅲ) to As(Ⅴ) but also reduced the toxic leaching concentration of As to 1.61 mg/L, which is a safe level, when the additions of TMT-15 and FeCl3·6 H2O were 2 mL and 0.20 g, respectively. Thus, using only a simple H2O2 pre-oxidation to combine clean stabilization with non-toxic stabilizers TMT-15 and FeCl3·6 H2O could render the severely As-contaminated soil safe for disposal in a landfill. 展开更多
