The heliocentric distance is one factor influencing the solar radiation pressure force exerted on solar sails. In addition, the solar radiation pressure force is also related to the solar sail orientation with respect to the sunlight direction. For an ideal flat solar sail, the cone angle between the sail normal and the sunlight direction determines the magnitude and direction of solar radiation pressure force. In general, the cone angle can change from 0° to 90°. However, in practical applications, a large cone angle may reduce the efficiency of solar radiation pressure force and there is a strict requirement on the attitude control. Usually, the cone angle range is restricted less more than an acute angle (for example, not more than 40°) in engineering practice. In this paper, the time-optimal transfer trajectory is designed over a restricted range of the cone angle, and an indirect method is used to solve the two point boundary value problem associated to the optimal control problem. Relevant numerical examples are provided to compare with the case of an unrestricted case, and the effects of different maximum restricted cone angles are discussed. The results indicate that (1) for the condition of a restricted cone-angle range the transfer time is longer than that for the unrestricted case and (2) the optimal transfer time increases as the maximum restricted cone angle decreases.展开更多

One of possible solutions is the energy storage technology, especially the battery storage system. The large-scale energy storage system is available to support power system reliable flexibility for load following and system frequency regulation. In this paper, the bottlenecks of large-scale solar power generation dispatching and operation in Qinghai grid are discussed, and a new PV-energy storage coordinated dispatching method is proposed for reduction of PV curtailment in Qinghai. Moreover, the validation based on the time-series production simulation is provided using real data from Qinghai. The results indicate that the proposed method can effectively decrease the curtailment of solar power and future vision of large-scale solar power coordinated operation with energy storage system is also presented.展开更多

The study comprises the period from March 1998 to November 2003, for which daily means were compared. Both series describe correlated, but different, phenomena and, consequently, before a correlation study, an individual analysis of each data set was necessary. One of the motivations of the present work was to further explore the correlation with lags found between the solar semi-diameter and some solar activity estimators, which supports the probabilistic forecasting of the solar activity and hence, of the solar driven geomagnetic variations.展开更多

Resulting travel times anomaly shows variations less than 10-3 seconds to and from Venus and Mars while Sun provides anomaly travel times of about -2 × 10-2 sec as backward signal needs more times than emitted signal from Earth. In the current explorations on Mars, the travel time anomaly may reach 1.8 × 10-4 sec as orbital Mars position pass through its minimum distance with respect to Earth. Implications of the difference between one and two-way travel times may be related to redshift/blueshift while travel time of received signal is less or greater than emitted signal.展开更多

The fundamental solar trigonometric model has been modified to estimate daily and hourly solar radiation on horizontal surfaces on the basis of the more readily available meteorological data. The results demonstrate that Kuwait has an abundance of solar energy capability. An overview of the production and consumption of electrical energy, installed capacity, and peak loads in Kuwait is also presented. Finally, it is shown how the power produced from the photovoitaic (PV) cells depends on the solar radiation. The proposed PV module is made up of a combination of series and parallel cells to increase power, while the IoV characteristic and output power of the module each month may be obtained from the model.展开更多
