In many fields of high-tech industry the ultra-t hi n wall parts are employed. In this paper the experiments were carried out to dis cuss the surface microstructure of the camera’s guided drawtube by applying ult rasonic vibration cutting device to the traditional lathe. The influence rule of the cutting condition on the surface roughness was put forward, which was drawn by comparing the ultrasonic cutting with the common cutting by use of the cemen ted carbide tool and the polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tool. The test results sh owed that the ultrasonic cutting performs better than the common cutting in the same condition. According to the test results analyzing, the surface characteriz ation is influenced clearly by the rigidity of the acoustic system and the machi ne tool, as well the setting height of the tool tip. Otherwise, the dense regula r low frequency vibration ripples will be scraped on the machined surface. When the tool tip is set higher than the rotating center of the work piece by three t imes of the amplitude of ultrasonic vibration, the vibration ripples behave alig ht; they turn light and shade alternatively when the tool tip is lower than the rotating center of the work piece by three times of the amplitude of ultrasonic vibration. According to the test result analyzing, the following conclusions are put forward: 1) The surface roughness in ultrasonic cutting is better than that in common cutting. Under a one third critical cutting velocity, the value of th e surface roughness in ultrasonic cutting rise slightly along with the cutting v elocity, while in common cutting it decreases contrast to the cutting velocity; the curves of the surface roughness in ultrasonic cutting and common cutting see m to be alike, both increase along with the feed rate and the cutting depth, but the value in ultrasonic cutting is smaller in the same condition.2) The influen ce of the coolant on the surface roughness cannot be ignored. The kerosene can b e employed to improve the surface roughness in ultrasonic machining.3) In ultras onic cutting process of aluminum alloy ultra-thin wall work piece, the PCD tool performs better than the cemented carbide tools.4) The vibration ripples result from the not enough rigidity of the acoustic system and the improper setting he ight of the tool tip. The departure of the tool tip from the rotating center of the work piece to some extent causes the vibration ripples on the machined surfa ce. 展开更多

In three-dimensional free-bending forming(3D-FBF),the tube is not overly constrained, and the plastic deformation behavior and forming quality of the bent tube are significantly affected by the critical structure of the forming die lining. However, the effects of die-lining structural parameters on the tube quality, and a method to determine the combination of die-lining structural parameters is yet to be devised. This study aims to propose a new framework that allows one to understand the effects of various die-lining structural parameters on tube quality and to propose the best combination of die-lining structural parameters.First,finite-element modeling is performed to simulate 3D-FBF and examine the effects of individual die-lining structures on the quality of tube formation. The simulation results show that the deformation-zone length and die gap are positively correlated with the tube-section distortion and wall-thickness variation, whereas it shows an opposite trend with respect to the bending radius.Additionally, the lining chamfer radius of the bending die and the guide lining chamfer radius minimally affect the tube forming quality.Subsequently, the optimal die-lining structure is obtained using the response-surface method. The tube cross-sectional distortion rate reduced from 2.73 to 2.53%after the die lining is optimized.Additionally, the average inner-wall thickness reduced to 1.06 mm,whereas the average outer-wall thickness increased to 0.97 mm.This paper proposes a method for optimizing the forming-die-lining mechanism and for improving the tube forming quality in 3D-FBF. 展开更多

Internal and external wall surface temperatures (Tws) in April, August and December in Kunming, a city in low latitude plateau, were investigated. Results showed that the Tws in April were of the highest among the three, followed by August and December. The Tws differences among walls with different orientation were higher in April and December when the weather tends to be sunny, and lower in August with more cloudy days in the time. In April and August, Tws of E-wall was the highest, followed by S- and N-wall. But in December Tws of S-wall might be sometimes higher than E one. Diurnal range of internal Tws was usually smaller than that of the external, with also a time lag for the occurrence of its maximum and minimum. The results can serve as a basis for further research on building microclimate and urban architecture designs. It also gives suggestions for similar studies in other areas. 展开更多

This study examined the thermal effects of building′s external wall surfaces, using observational data of spatial-temporal distribution of surface temperature, air temperature, and heat flux into and out of external surface. Results indicate that external wall surface temperature and nearby air temperature vary with the change of orientation, height and season. In general, the external wall surface temperature is lower near the ground, and is higher near the roof, than nearby air temperature. But north wall surface temperature is mostly lower than nearby air temperature at the same height; south wall surface temperature during the daytime in December, and west wall surface temperature all day in August, is respectively higher than nearby air temperature. The heat fluxes into and out of external wall surfaces show the differences that exist in the various orientations, heights and seasons. In December, south wall surface at the lower sites emits heat and north wall surface at the higher sites absorbs heat. In April, all external wall surfaces, emit heat near the ground and absorb heat near the roof. In August, west wall surface all day emits heat, and other wall surfaces just show the commensurate behavior with that in April. 展开更多

The loads of shock wave effect on fabricated anti-blast wail and distribution law around the wall were investigated by using near surface explosion test method and FEM. The pressure-time histories and variety law on the foreside and backside of the anti-blast wall were adopted in the tests of variety of different explosion distances and dynamites, as well as in the comparison between the test and numerical calculation. The test results show that the loads of shock wave effect on the anti-blast wall were es- sen-tially consistent with calculation results using criterion under surface explosion when explosion dis- tances exceed 2 m, the distribution of overpressure behind wall was gained according to variety law based on small-large-small. It is also demonstrated that the peak overpressure behind wall had com- monly appeared in wall height by 1.5--2.5 multiples, and the peak overpressures of protective building behind wall could be reduced effectively by using the fabricated anti-blast wall. 展开更多

The material removal rate and required work- piece surface quality of thin-walled structure milling are greatly limited due to its severe vibration, which is directly associated with the dynamic characteristics of the system. Therefore, the suppression of vibration is an unavoidable problem during milling. A novel partial surface damping method is proposed to modify the mode of the thin walled cantilever plate and to suppress vibration during milling. Based on classical plate theory, the design criterion is analyzed and configuration of the partial surface damper is introduced, in which viscoelastic plate and constraining plate are attached to the surface of the plate to increase the system's natural frequency and loss factor. In order to obtain the energy expression of the cutting system, the Ritz method is used to describe the unknown displacements. Then, with Lagrange's equation, the natural frequency and loss factor are calculated. In addition, the plate is divided into a finite number of square elements, and the regulation of treated position is studied based on theoretic and experimental analysis. The milling tests are conducted to verify its damping performance and the experimentalresults show that with treatment of partial surface damper, the deformation of the hare plate is reduced from 0.27 mm to 0.1 mm, while the vibration amplitude of the bare plate is reduced from 0.08 mm to 0.01 mm. The proposed research provides the instruction to design partial surface damper. 展开更多

Surface ozone(O3)is a secondary pollutant harmful to human health and a greenhouse gas which is one of the prime climate forcers.Due to the clean atmospheric environment of the Antarctic region and given the complexity of O3 chemistry, the observation of surface O3 variability in this region is necessary in the quest to better understand the potential sources and sink of polar surface O3.In this paper,we highlighted our observations on O3 variability at the Great Wall Station(GWS)during austral summer in December 2018 and January 2019.The continuous surface O3 measurement at the GWS,Antarctica was carried out using the Ecotech Ozone analyzer. To understand the roles of the meteorological conditions on the temporal variations of O3,meteorological data was obtained from the conventional auto-observational station at the GWS.The Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory(HYSPLIT)model was employed to investigate the air mass transport over the region. The observed austral summer surface O3 concentrations at the GWS exhibited variability and were significantly lower than those previously observed at other permanent coastal stations in Antarctica. The surface ozone variability at the GWS was strongly influenced by the synoptic change of air mass origin although the roles of photochemistry production and destruction were still uncertain.Marine characteristics and stable surface O3 characterized the air masses that reached the GWS.The unique characteristic of surface O3 at the coastal site of GWS was emphasized by its synoptic air mass characteristics, which displayed a significant influence on surface O3 variability.Air mass that traveled over the ocean with relatively shorter distance was linked to the lower O3 level, whereby the marine transport of reactive bromine(Br)species was thought to play a significant role in the tropospheric chemistry that leads to O3 destruction.Meanwhile, the diurnal variation indicated that the O3 background concentration levels were not strongly associated with the local atmospheric conditions. 展开更多

Pure and doped Polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) films, for the detection of infrared radiation, have been well documented using the mechanism of pyroelectricity. Alternatively, the electrical properties of films made from Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) have received considerable attention in recent years. The investigation of surface resistivities of both such films, to this point, has received far less consideration in comparison to pyroelectric effects. In this research, we report temperature dependent surface resistivity measurements of commercial, and of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), or Ag-nanoparticle doped PVA films. Without any variation in the temperature range from 22°C to 40°C with controlled humidity, we found that the surface resistivity decreases initially, reaches a minimum, but rises steadily as the temperature continues to increase. This research was conducted with the combined instrumentation of the Keithley Model 6517 Electrometer and Keithley Model 8009 resistivity test fixture using both commercial and in-house produced organic thin films. With the objective to quantify the suitability of PVDF and PVA films as IR detector materials, when using the surface resistivity phenomenon, instead of or in addition to the pyroelectricity, surface resistivity measurements are reported when considering bolometry. We found that the surface resistivity measurements on PVA films were readily implemented. 展开更多

The paper aims to identify a reasonable method for mining ultra-thick coal seams in an end-slope in surface mine, With a case study of Heidaigou surface coal mine(HSCM), the paper conducted a comparative research on three mining methods, namely Underground Mining Method(UMM), Highwall Mining System(HMS) and Local Steep Slope Mining Method(LSSMM). A model was firstly established to simulate the impact that UMM and HMS exert on monitoring points and surface deformation. The way that stripping and excavation amount varies with different slope angle, and the corresponding end slope stability were analyzed in the mode of LSSMM. Then a TOPSIS model was established by taking into account six indicators such as recovery ratio, technical complexity and adaptability, the impact on surface mining production, production safety and economic benefits. Finally, LSSMM was determined as the best mining method for mining ultra-thick coal seams in end slope in HSCM. 展开更多

Desalination is considered a viable method to overcome the issue of water scarcity either from waste water or seawater. For this purpose, this study employed a facile approach to develop surface immobilized oxidized-MWCNTs(o-MWCNTs) onto crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) membrane. Firstly, modified polysulphone substrate was synthesized on to which crosslinked PVA layer was spread onto it. PVA layer act as active layer for surface immobilization of o-MWCNTs in varying concentration. The functional group analysis, morphology and roughness of membranes surface was conducted out using FTIR, SEM and AFM respectively. The results showed that modified membranes, immobilized o-MWCNTs enhanced the salt rejection(Na_(2)SO_(4)) upto 99.8%. After contacting with Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus for 2.5 h the bacteria mortalities of the fabricated membrane could reach 96.9%. Furthermore, the antibiofouling tests showed that OP-MWCNTs(1-5) modified membranes have higher anti-biofouling property than the control membrane. 展开更多

High-temperature heating surface such as superheater and reheater of large-sized utility boiler all experiences a relatively severe working conditions. The failure of boiler tubes will directly impact the safe and economic operation of boiler. An on-line life monitoring model of high-temperature heating surface was set up according to the well-known L-M formula of the creep damages. The tube wall metal temperature and working stress was measured by on-line monitoring, and with this model, the real-time calculation of the life expenditure of the heating surface tube bundles were realized. Based on the technique the on-line life monitoring and management system of high-temperature heating surface was developed for a 300 MW utility boiler. An effective device was thus suggested for the implementation of the safe operation and the condition-based maintenance of utility boilers. 展开更多

To investigate the seismic response of the steel-strip reinforced soil retaining wall with fullheight rigid facing in terms of the acceleration in the backfill, dynamic earth pressure in the backfill, the displacements on the facing and the dynamic reinforcement strain distribution under different peak acceleration, a large 1-g shaking table test was performed on a reduced-scale reinforced-earth retaining wall model. It was observed that the acceleration response in non-strip region is greater than that in potential fracture region which is similar with the stability region under small earthquake, while the acceleration response in potential fracture region is greater than that in stability region in middle-upper of the wall under moderately strong earthquakes. The potential failure model of the rigid wall is rotating around the wall toe. It also was discovered that the Fourier spectra produced by the inputting white noises after seismic wave presents double peaks, rather than original single peak, and the frequency of the second peak trends to increase with increasing the PGA(peak ground amplitude) of the excitation which is greater than 0.4 g. Additionally, the non-liner distribution of strip strain along the strips was observed, and the distribution trend was not constant in different row. Soil pressure peak value in stability region is larger than that in potential fracture region. The wall was effective under 0.1 g-0.3 g seismic wave according to the analyses of the facing displacement and relative density. Also, it was discovered that the potential failure surface is corresponds to that in design code, but the area is larger. The results from the study can provide guidance for a more rational design of reinforced earth retaining walls with full-height rigid facing in the earthquake zone. 展开更多

According to the theoretical solutions for the nonlinear three-dimensional gravity surface waves and their interactions with vertical wall previously proposed by the lead author, in this paper an exact second-order random model of the unified wave motion process for nonlinear irregular waves and their interactions with vertical wall in uniform current is formulated, the corresponding theoretical nonlinear spectrum is derived, and the digital simulation model suitable to the use of the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) algorithm is also given. Simulations of wave surface, wave pressure, total wave pressure and its moment are performed. The probability properties and statistical characteristics of these realizations are tested, which include the verifications of normality for linear process and of non-normality for nonlinear process; the consistencies of the theoretical spectra with simulated ones; the probability properties of apparent characteristics, such as amplitudes, periods, and extremes (maximum and minimum, positive and negative extremes). The statistical analysis and comparisons demonstrate that the proposed theoretical and computing models are realistic and effective, and estimated spectra are in good agreement with the theoretical ones, and the probability properties of the simulated waves are similar to those of the sea waves. At the same time, the simulating computation can be completed rapidly and easily. 展开更多

The seismic design of gravity retaining walls is based mostly on the pseudo static method. The seismic earth pressure is assumed to be a constant without considering the wave traveling effect when the seismic wave propagates through the slope. However, under continuous ground motion, the actual earth pressure on the retaining wall varies with time. The present seismic earth pressure calculation method yields results that differ significantly from the actual scenario.Considering this,a slip surface curve was assumed in this study. It is more suitable for engineering practice. In addition,a theoretical calculation model based on energy dissipation was established. The time history of seismic earth pressure response under continuous ground motion was calculated using the equilibrium equation between the external power and the internal energy dissipation power of the sliding soil wedge. It can more effectively reflect the stress scenario of a retaining wall under seismic conditions. To verify the applicability of the proposed approach,a large-scale shaking table test was conducted, and the time history of the seismic earth pressure response obtained from the experiment was compared with the calculation results. The results show that the proposed approach is applicable to the calculation of the time history of seismic earth pressure response of gravity retaining walls. This lays the foundation for the seismic design of retaining structures by using dynamic time history. 展开更多

Ablation excited by current pulses is a very critical physical process in pulse plasma thrusters(PPT).Its effects on wall-plasma interaction directly determine the PPT performances. In order to reveal the process of the ablated wall interaction with the discharge plasma in PPT,ablation models formulated by three different boundary conditions at the wall-plasma interface are studied. These are the two widely used high-speed evaporation models(Model-L and Model-M),and the recently developed Keida-Zaghloul model(Model-K)of the Knudsen layer that takes into account the internal degrees of freedom on the energy flux conservation.First, fundamental mechanisms of the three ablation models are clarified by comparative analysis in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the wall-plasma interaction. Then, the applicability of different ablation models with the numerical solutions of LES-6 PPT is investigated in detail using magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)modeling. Results show that Model-L and Model-M are actually special cases of Model-K when a simplified jump conditions limited by high velocity at the vapor/plasma interface is used;A ratio of ablation rate in Model-L to that in Model-M is about 0.8at the same wall surface temperature, while it rises to 1 at different surface temperature determined by Model-L and Model-M in PPT.Even though Model-K solution requires significant computational time,it shows more accurate ablation feature for the wall-plasma interaction and possesses better computing precision of impulse bit during post-pulse which is useful for future studies of the late time ablation. 展开更多

The thin-walled tube flexure(TWTF) hinges have important potential application value in the deployment mechanisms of satellite and solar array, but the optimal design of the TWTF hinges haven't been completely solved, which restricts their applications. An optimal design method for the qusai-static folding and deploying of TWTF hinges with double slots is presented based on the response surface theory. Firstly, the full factorial method is employed to design of the experiments. Then, the finite element models of the TWTF hinges with double slots are constructed to simulate the qusai-static folding and deploying non-linear analysis. What's more, the mathematical model of the TWTF flexure hinge quasi-static folding and deploying properties are derived by the response surface method. Considering of small mass and high stability, the peak moment of quasi-static folding and deploying as well as the lightless are set as the objectives to get the optimal performances. The relative errors of the objectives between the optimal design results and the FE analysis results are less than 7%, which demonstrates the precision of the surrogate models. Lastly, the parameter study shows that both the slots length and the slots width both have significant effects to the peak moment of quasi-static folding and deploying of TWTF hinges with double slots. However, the maximum Mises stress of quasi-static folding is more sensitive to the slots length than the slots width. The proposed research can be applied to optimize other thin-walled flexure hinges under quasi-static folding and deploying, which is of great importance to design of flexure hinges with high stability and low stress. 展开更多

Mitigation of urban air pollution has been constrained by the availability of urban spaces for greening.Green walls offer the prospect of greening spaces and surfaces without requiring large areas.Green walls can largely be divided into green facades where the aboveground parts of plants rooted in soil and pots grow directly on,and living walls holding bags, planter tiles, trays and vessels containing substrates in which plants are grown.Green facades and living walls can be continuous or modular with repeating units that can be assembled for extension. This review aims to present the effectiveness of green walls in removing different types of air pollutants in indoor and outdoor environments. It examined more than 45 peer-reviewed recently published scholarly articles to achieve the aim.It highlights that most of the studies on green walls focus on particulate matter removal and green walls could effectively remove particulate matter though the effectiveness varies with plant types, air humidity, rainfall and its intensity, leaf area index and contact angle, green wall surface coverage ratio,as well as the height of green walls.Increasing the height of green walls and optimizing their distance from roadsides could promote the deposition of particulate matter.Washing off could regenerate plant surfaces for capturing pollutants.Green walls are also effective in removing NO2,O3,SO2 and CO.Indoor active living walls, when properly designed, could have air purifying performance comparable to a HVAC system. The performance of green walls could be optimized through polycultures, selection of plants, surface coverage and height, and air inflow. 展开更多

The optimal material removal strategy can improve a geometric accuracy and surface quality of thin-walled parts such as turbine blades and blisks in high-speed ball end milling. The dominant conception in the material removal represents the persistence of the workpiece cutting stiffness in operation to advance the machining accuracy and machining efficiency. On the basis of theoretical models of cutting stiffness and deformation, finite element method (FEM) is applied to calculate the virtual displacements of the thin-walled part under given virtual loads at the nodes of the discrete surface. With the reference of deformation distribution of the thin-walled part, the milling material removal strategy is optimized to make the best of bracing ability of still uncut material. This material removal method is summarized as the lower stiffness region removed firstly and the higher stiffness region removed next.Analytical and experimental results show the availability, which has been verified by the blade machining test in this work, for thin-walled parts to reduce cutting deformation and meliorate machining quality. 展开更多
