The active average sound intensity (AASI) detector can estimate all azimuths of users with the same frequency band at the same time in order to achieve directional communication by vector combination. Space-division multiple access (SDMA) based on TRM combined with the AASI detector is proposed in this paper, which can make the capacity of the code division multiple access (CDMA) UWA system significantly increase. The simulation and lake test results show that the 7-user UWA multi-user system can achieve low bit error communication.展开更多

It is shown that the dual relationship between multiuser detection and multiuser transmission can be extended to the rank-deficient system where the number of users supported is more than the number of transmit antennas available at the BS, if the MBER design is adopted. The proposed MBER transmit beamforming scheme is capable of achieving better performance over the standard minimum mean square error transmit beamforming solution with the support of low-complexity and high power-efficient MTs, particularly for rank-deficient TDD-SDMA MIMO systems. The robustness of the proposed MBER transmit beamforming design to the downlink and uplink noise or channel mismatch is investigated using simulation.展开更多

SDMA optical bealnforming is a technique which separates light-emitting diode light spa- tially and focuses each part on different target devices simultaneously. We show the experimental results of the VLC signal amplitudes, the optical power densities, and the bit-error rate performance as a function of transmission distance before and after the SDMA optical beamforming. The results show that the VLC signal amplitudes and optical power densities are improved by 8-2 and 3.8- 5 dB, respectively, with the help of SDMA optical beamforming.展开更多

Under this setting, the relevant fairness criterion is the stabilization of all buffer queues which guarantees a bounded average delay for all users. It has been shown that allocating resources to maximize a queue-length-weighted sum of the rates is a stabilizing policy. However, the high complexity of user selection and the feasible rates determination for optimal scheme may prevent the real-time scheduling operation. Two low complexity algorithms are provided taking the channel state, queue state and orthogonality into account. In particular, the authors pick the first user with the largest product between channel gain and queuing length, and select the remaining users to construct candidate user set based on the greedy user selection method or channel orthogonal user selection method. Then, the power and rate allocation for the selected users are implemented based on the modified water-filling method. The complexity of the proposed algorithms is analyzed. The average delay and average throughput are studied in homogeneous scenarios and heterogeneous scenarios, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can take full advantage of the multi-user diversity gain and provide average delay (or throughput) and fairness improvement compared with channel-aware-only schemes.展开更多

The article aims at maximizing system throughput with the constraints of total power and bit error rate (BER) while supporting fairness among users. The downlink proportional fairness (PF) scheduling problem is reformulated as a maximization of the sum of logarithmic user data rate. From necessary conditions on optimality obtained analytically by Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) condition, an efficient user selection and resource allocation algorithm is proposed. The computer simulations reveal that the proposed algorithm achieves tradeoff between system throughput and fairness among users.展开更多

A minimum number of training symbols, very close to the number of receiver antenna elements, are used to provide a rough initial least squares estimate of the beamformer's weight vector. A novel cost function combining the constant modulus criterion with decision-directed adaptation is adopted to adapt the beamformer weight vector. This cost function can be approximated as a quadratic form with a closed-form solution, based on which we then derive the recursive least squares (RLS) semi-blind adaptive beamforming algorithm. This semi-blind adaptive beamforming scheme is capable of converging fast to the minimum mean-square-error beamforming solution, as demonstrated in our simulation study. Our proposed semi-blind RLS beamforming algorithm therefore provides an efficient detection scheme for the future generation of MIMO aided mobile communication systems.展开更多
