The exponential growth of wireless devices in recent years has motivated the exploration of the millimeter-wave frequen- cy spectrum for multi-gigabit wireless communications. Recent advances in antenna technology, RF CMOS process, and high-speed baseband signal processing algorithms make millimeter-wave wireless communication feasible. The multigigabit-per-second data rate of millimeter-wave wireless com- munication systems will lead to applications in many important scenarios, such as WPAN, WLAN, back-haul for cellular system. The frequency bands include 28 GHz, 38 GHz, 45GHz, 60GHz, E-BAND, and even beyond 100 GHz. The upcoming special issue of ZTE Communications will present some major achievements of the research and development in multigigabit millimeter-wave wireless communications.
