This study investigates the identity of English for Specific Purposes(ESP)teachers within the dynamic landscape of shifts in public English teaching positioning.Adopting a mixed-methods approach,qualitative and quanti...This study investigates the identity of English for Specific Purposes(ESP)teachers within the dynamic landscape of shifts in public English teaching positioning.Adopting a mixed-methods approach,qualitative and quantitative analyses were employed to explore the complexities of ESP teacher identity construction and adaptation.Qualitative findings revealed key themes including strong professional identity grounded in specialized expertise,the impact of changing educational policies and curriculum reforms,and the importance of cultural competence and intercultural communication.Quantitative analysis of survey data indicated high levels of job satisfaction among ESP teachers,with significant correlations between variables such as professional development participation,perceived efficacy in technology integration,and self-perceptions of identity as ESP educators.展开更多

Background:According to previous studies on professional English course teaching,the evaluation of course teaching was positive,but the vast majorities focus on medical English literature reading,professional English ...Background:According to previous studies on professional English course teaching,the evaluation of course teaching was positive,but the vast majorities focus on medical English literature reading,professional English vocabulary,and professional English translation.As an alternative,the course design based on academic learning needs under the outcome-oriented education/model emphasizes the improvement of students'comprehensive ability in oral expression,literature reading,writing,and academic communication.Objectives:The objective of this study was to analyze nursing postgraduates'opinions on learning the outcome-oriented academic English course.Methods:This is a cross-sectional descriptive study.A total of 150 first-year nursing postgraduates enrolled in the“Academic Professional English for Nursing Postgraduates”course.After completing the course learning,students scanned QR codes generated by the online questionnaire and completed it anonymously within 48 h.Results:The students who participated in this course strongly believed that it“helped them strengthen their English speakability”(4.8 points),“made them more confident to participate in international academic conferences and exchanges in the future”(4.8 points),and“helped them apply English more in the nursing professional field in the future”(4.7 points).Conclusions:The implementation of outcome-oriented course teaching helps students to understand the research of foreign scholars and effectively express their own research content with English as a tool.It motivates them to continuously use English for professional and academic communication.展开更多

This paper aims to analyze the present situation,hot topics and features in particular,of the researches in the field of ESP done by researchers in Anhui institutions of higher learning during the period from 2001 to 2014,by means of documentation. Firstly,the w riter review s the origin of English for Specific Purposes and its development within C hina,and then examines the major reasons for the transformation. Next,on the basis of analysis into the collected papers,the author points out that,as far as research method is concerned,we are being more empirical and more quantitative than speculative and qualitative; with regard to research contents,we are focusing on both theoretical and applicative studies and both macro and micro research,which is the research tendencies in Anhui.Lastly,the writer suggests that Anhui institutions of higher learning should set up their ow n research organization in order to form regional research dominance.展开更多

Chinese business education differs from British business education in many respects.On the whole,it focuses on the acquisition of theoretical knowledge,whereas British business education places far more emphasis on so...Chinese business education differs from British business education in many respects.On the whole,it focuses on the acquisition of theoretical knowledge,whereas British business education places far more emphasis on soft management skills and team-work.This paper examines a split-site business degree program offered by a Chinese international school and a British business school,and explores the attitudes and expectations of the Chinese participants and their Chinese and British lecturers from an“English for specific purposes”perspective.The study conducted classroom observation,semi-structured interviews,and a questionaire survey,and identifies areas of difficulty for Chinese business students in the UK,in particular regarding their beliefs about teacher and student roles,their learning priorities and learning strategies,and their“goal-oriented”approach to discussion,which is at odds with the more collaborative and exploratory Western discussion strategies.The findings have implications for pre-sessional and in-sessional English course design,the management of split-site business degree programs,the teaching of Chinese students,and the enhancement of learning experiences generally in international business programs.展开更多
