Hepatic and cutaneous sar...A 39-year-old male patient complaining of bilateral hand joint arthralgia was evaluated and found to have chronic hepatitis C and systemic sarcoidosis involving lung, skin, liver, and spleen. Hepatic and cutaneous sarcoidoses were confirmed by the presence of numerous noncaseating granulomas on histological examination. Pulmonary and splenic involvements were diagnosed by imaging studies. Fifteen months later, the sarcoidotic lesions in lung, liver, and spleen were resolved by radiological studies and a liver biopsy showed no granuloma but moderate to severe inflammatory activity, systemic sarcoidosis is a rare comorbidity of chronic hepatitis C which may spontaneously resolve.展开更多
BACKGROUND To discuss the rare event of spontaneous resolution of a lumbar ganglion cyst,a personal case report and 25 cases culled from the literature were described in detail.We focused on demographic,classification...BACKGROUND To discuss the rare event of spontaneous resolution of a lumbar ganglion cyst,a personal case report and 25 cases culled from the literature were described in detail.We focused on demographic,classification,clinical and radiological findings,treatment,outcome and radiological resolution.CASE SUMMARY A 51-year-old man presented to our observation with complaints of low back and right leg pain.Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).showed a L4-L5 ganglion cyst.The patient was referred to medical therapy and bracing.After 4 wk,he showed a complete resolution of pain.The complete spontaneous resolution of the cyst was demonstrated by the followed-up MRI.CONCLUSION Spontaneous resolution of lumbar ganglion is very rare and only 26 cases,including ours,were reported in literature.Different degrees of biomechanical impairment seem to play a fundamental role in the pathogenesis.Related symptoms are essentially represented by low back and/or radicular pain,without significant neurological disorders.Anti-inflammatory drugs,light unloading exercises and brace could be recommended to administrated pain and decrease facet loads.Mean time for clinical improvement was 7 mo,while MRI disappearance occurred in an average time of 11 mo.Therefore,surgery should be applied when conservative treatment,prolonged at least 6 mo,fails.展开更多

Herein, we report the formation and spontaneous resolution of three-dimensional(3 D) chiral 3 d-4 f heterometal-organic frameworks from achiral ligands in the presence of lactic acid enantiomers as chiral inducers. In the absence of a chiral inducer, the reactants randomly generated both enantiopure crystals in equal measure. However, enantiopure lactic acid induced asymmetric resolution to achieve single chiral crystallization. DFT theoretical calculations showed that the absolute chiral resolution of the enantiomers is due to the difference in the interactions between the two enantiomeric Λ/Δ-[Fe L_(3)]^(3-)units and the chiral inducer.展开更多
BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)can lead to chronic liver damage resulting in cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.Spontaneous clearance of HCV has been documented after an acute infection in 20%-45%of individuals....BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)can lead to chronic liver damage resulting in cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.Spontaneous clearance of HCV has been documented after an acute infection in 20%-45%of individuals.However,spontaneously resolved chronic hepatitis C following liver transplant(LT)is rare and has been documented only in a few case reports.The phenomenon of spontaneous clearance of chronic hepatitis C occurs together with other meaningful events,which are typically associated with significant changes in the host immunity.CASE SUMMARY We report three cases of spontaneous resolution of chronic hepatitis C following liver transplantation.These patients either failed or had no HCV treatment prior to transplant,but had spontaneous resolution of HCV post-LT as documented by undetectable polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Diagnosis of HCV was based on viremia through PCR or liver biopsy.All three patients currently undergo surveillance and have no recurrence of HCV.CONCLUSION Examining each patient’s clinical course,we learned about many viral,host and cellular-factors that may have enhanced the host’s immunity leading to spontaneous clearance of HCV.Though HCV treatment has excellent cure rates,understanding this mechanism may provide clinicians with insights regarding timing and duration of treatment.展开更多
Background:Spontaneously resolved primary congenital glaucoma is rare and the mechanism remains unknown.Previous literature described the phenomenon of spontaneous resolution of primary congenital glaucoma,with no fur...Background:Spontaneously resolved primary congenital glaucoma is rare and the mechanism remains unknown.Previous literature described the phenomenon of spontaneous resolution of primary congenital glaucoma,with no further reports on follow-up visits and visual development of patients.We report a case of unilateral spontaneously resolved primary congenital glaucoma at a 7-year follow-up visit and describe the differential development of axial length(AL)between affected eye and healthy eye.Case Description:A 6-year-old boy firstly presented at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center with expanded corneas and ruptures in Descemet’s membranes(Haab’s striae)and apparently thin retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)in the left eye(LE),but normal intraocular pressure(IOP)of both eyes without anti-glaucoma medications or surgeries.At 7-year follow-up,the IOPs of bilateral eyes were stable ranging from 8 to 11 mmHg.A cup to disc ratio and the RNFL was stable in the LE at the following visit.The AL increased almost 3 mm in the right eye(RE)but 1.5 mm in the LE.Without anti-glaucoma medications or surgeries,the primary congenital glaucoma was spontaneously resolved.Conclusions:It may figure out the development and influence of the affected eye of the patient,including AL and refraction state with regular ophthalmic examination at periodic follow-up.展开更多
The crystallization of chiral molecules is of great significance to understand the origin and evolution of hierarchical chirality and reveal the relationships between structural chirality and circularly polarized lumi...The crystallization of chiral molecules is of great significance to understand the origin and evolution of hierarchical chirality and reveal the relationships between structural chirality and circularly polarized luminescence(CPL)activity.Here,we report two pairs of chiral metal–organic frameworks(MOFs)(DCF-17/LCF-17,DCF-18/LCF-18)by utilizing tetradentate ligands tetra(3-imidazoylphenyl)ethylene(TIPE)and 4,4'-[4',5'-bis[4-(4-pyridinyl)phenyl][1,1':2',1”-terphenyl]-4,4”-diyl]bis[pyridine](TPPP)as linkers.It can be observed that the spontaneous resolution of the achiral ligands is converted into the induced resolution,and the ligands form the absolute configuration by using enantiopure camphoric acid(cam)as chiral induced reagent(CIR).As a result,the racemate MOFs can be driven to generate absolute homochiral crystallization.Another two achiral MOFs[Cd(D-cam)(TPPP)_(0.5)](AF-1,AF=achiral framework)and[Cd(L-cam)(TPPP)_(0.5)](AF-2)were prepared.The position disorder of D/L-cam skeleton causes the generation of nonchiralization,further leading to disappearance of symmetry breaking of TPPP.For the perspective of structure,this is the first report which reveals the chiral transfer and nonchiralization between chiral induced agents and tetradentate ligands.Besides,DCF-17 and LCF-17 show CPL with luminescence dissymmetry factor(glum)of–1.0×10^(-2)and+9.2×10^(–3),respectively.This work provides the useful evidences to reveal the induced chiral crystallization and the construction of CPL-active crystalline materials.展开更多
