For a 5G wireless communication system,a convolutional deep neural network(CNN)is employed to synthesize a robust channel state estimator(CSE).The proposed CSE extracts channel information from transmit-and-receive pairs through offline training to estimate the channel state information.Also,it utilizes pilots to offer more helpful information about the communication channel.The proposedCNN-CSE performance is compared with previously published results for Bidirectional/long short-term memory(BiLSTM/LSTM)NNs-based CSEs.The CNN-CSE achieves outstanding performance using sufficient pilots only and loses its functionality at limited pilots compared with BiLSTM and LSTM-based estimators.Using three different loss function-based classification layers and the Adam optimization algorithm,a comparative study was conducted to assess the performance of the presented DNNs-based CSEs.The BiLSTM-CSE outperforms LSTM,CNN,conventional least squares(LS),and minimum mean square error(MMSE)CSEs.In addition,the computational and learning time complexities for DNN-CSEs are provided.These estimators are promising for 5G and future communication systems because they can analyze large amounts of data,discover statistical dependencies,learn correlations between features,and generalize the gotten knowledge. 展开更多

By adopting the Cartesian coordinates and pseudomeasurements ,the result ed TSE has it s advantages in computation.In addition, by employing accurate range and range-rate redundant filter, the range direction estimations obtained in Cartesian filter are greatly improved. This paper presents a properly designed branchcurrent based state estimator(BCBSE)used as the main core ofan accurate fault location approach(FLA)devoted to distribution networks.Contrary to the approaches available in the literature,it uses only a limited set of conventional measurementsobtained from smart meters to accurately locate faults at busesor branches without requiring measurements provided by phasor measurement units(PMUs).This is possible due to themethods used to model the angular reference and the faultedbus,in addition to the proper choice of the weights in the stateestimator(SE).The proposed approach is based on a searchingprocedure composed of up to three stages:①the identificationof the faulted zones;②the identification of the bus closest tothe fault;and③the location of the fault itself,searching onbranches connected to the bus closest to the fault.Furthermore,this paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the proposedapproach,even considering the presence of distributed generation,and a sensitivity study on the proper weights required bythe SE for fault location purposes,which can not be found inthe literature.Results show that the proposed BCBSE-basedFLA is robust,accurate,and aligned with the requirements ofthe traditional and active distribution networks. 展开更多

The error of single step-ahead output prediction is the information traditionally used to correct the state estimate while exploiting the new measurement of the system output.However,its dynamics and statistical properties can be further studied and exploited in other ways.It is known that in the case of suboptimal state estimation,this output prediction error forms a correlated sequence,hence it can be effectively predicted in real time.Such a suboptimal scenario is typical in applications where the process noise model is not known or it is uncertain.Therefore,the paper deals with the problems of analytical and empirical modeling,identification,and prediction of the output error of the suboptimal state estimator for the sake of improving the output prediction accuracy and ultimately the performance of the model predictive control.The improvements are validated on an empirical model of type 1 diabetes within an in-silico experiment focused on glycemia prediction and implementation of the MPC-based artificial pancreas. 展开更多

Cybersecurity Landscape on Remote State Estimation:A Comprehensive Review

Cyber-physical systems(CPSs)have emerged as an essential area of research in the last decade,providing a new paradigm for the integration of computational and physical units in modern control systems.Remote state estimation(RSE)is an indispensable functional module of CPSs.Recently,it has been demonstrated that malicious agents can manipulate data packets transmitted through unreliable channels of RSE,leading to severe estimation performance degradation.This paper aims to present an overview of recent advances in cyber-attacks and defensive countermeasures,with a specific focus on integrity attacks against RSE.Firstly,two representative frameworks for the synthesis of optimal deception attacks with various performance metrics and stealthiness constraints are discussed,which provide a deeper insight into the vulnerabilities of RSE.Secondly,a detailed review of typical attack detection and resilient estimation algorithms is included,illustrating the latest defensive measures safeguarding RSE from adversaries.Thirdly,some prevalent attacks impairing the confidentiality and data availability of RSE are examined from both attackers'and defenders'perspectives.Finally,several challenges and open problems are presented to inspire further exploration and future research in this field. 展开更多

This paper investigates the anomaly-resistant decentralized state estimation(SE) problem for a class of wide-area power systems which are divided into several non-overlapping areas connected through transmission lines. Two classes of measurements(i.e., local measurements and edge measurements) are obtained, respectively, from the individual area and the transmission lines. A decentralized state estimator, whose performance is resistant against measurement with anomalies, is designed based on the minimum error entropy with fiducial points(MEEF) criterion. Specifically, 1) An augmented model, which incorporates the local prediction and local measurement, is developed by resorting to the unscented transformation approach and the statistical linearization approach;2) Using the augmented model, an MEEF-based cost function is designed that reflects the local prediction errors of the state and the measurement;and 3) The local estimate is first obtained by minimizing the MEEF-based cost function through a fixed-point iteration and then updated by using the edge measuring information. Finally, simulation experiments with three scenarios are carried out on the IEEE 14-bus system to illustrate the validity of the proposed anomaly-resistant decentralized SE scheme. 展开更多

In many engineering networks, only a part of target state variables are required to be estimated.On the other hand,multi-layer complex network exists widely in practical situations.In this paper, the state estimation of target state variables in multi-layer complex dynamical networks with nonlinear node dynamics is studied.A suitable functional state observer is constructed with the limited measurement.The parameters of the designed functional observer are obtained from the algebraic method and the stability of the functional observer is proven by the Lyapunov theorem.Some necessary conditions that need to be satisfied for the design of the functional state observer are obtained.Different from previous studies, in the multi-layer complex dynamical network with nonlinear node dynamics, the proposed method can estimate the state of target variables on some layers directly instead of estimating all the individual states.Thus, it can greatly reduce the placement of observers and computational cost.Numerical simulations with the three-layer complex dynamical network composed of three-dimensional nonlinear dynamical nodes are developed to verify the effectiveness of the method. 展开更多

On state estimation problems of switched neural networks,most existing results with an event-triggered scheme(ETS)not only ignore the estimator information,but also just employ a fixed triggering threshold,and the estimation error cannot be guaranteed to converge to zero.In addition,the state estimator of non-switched neural networks with integral and exponentially convergent terms cannot be used to improve the estimation performance of switched neural networks due to the difficulties caused by the nonsmoothness of the considered Lyapunov function at the switching instants.In this paper,we aim at overcoming such difficulties and filling in the gaps,by proposing a novel adaptive ETS(AETS)to design an event-based H_(∞)switched proportional-integral(PI)state estimator.A triggering-dependent exponential convergence term and an integral term are introduced into the switched PI state estimator.The relationship among the average dwell time,the AETS and the PI state estimator are established by the triggering-dependent exponential convergence term such that estimation error asymptotically converges to zero with H_(∞)performance level.It is shown that the convergence rate of the resultant error system can be adaptively adjusted according to triggering signals.Finally,the validity of the proposed theoretical results is verified through two illustrative examples. 展开更多

This paper proposes an L_(p)(0<p<1)quasi norm state estimator for power system static state estimation.Compared with the existing L1 and L2 norm estimators,the proposed estimator can suppress the bad data more effectively.The robustness of the proposed estimator is discussed,and an analysis shows that its ability to suppress bad data increases as p decreases.Moreover,an algorithm is suggested to solve the nonconvex state estimation problem.By introducing a relaxation factor in the mathematical model of the proposed estimator,the algorithm can prevent the solution from converging to a local optimum as much as possible.Finally,simulations on a 3-bus DC system,the IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 300-bus systems as well as a 1204-bus provincial system verify the high computation efficiency and robustness of the proposed estimator. 展开更多

This paper is concerned with the problem of finitehorizon energy-to-peak state estimation for a class of networked linear time-varying systems.Due to the inherent vulnerability of network-based communication,the measurement signals transmitted over a communication network might be intercepted by potential eavesdroppers.To avoid information leakage,by resorting to an artificial-noise-assisted method,we develop a novel encryption-decryption scheme to ensure that the transmitted signal is composed of the raw measurement and an artificial-noise term.A special evaluation index named secrecy capacity is employed to assess the information security of signal transmissions under the developed encryption-decryption scheme.The purpose of the addressed problem is to design an encryptiondecryption scheme and a state estimator such that:1)the desired secrecy capacity is ensured;and 2)the required finite-horizon–l_(2)-l_(∞)performance is achieved.Sufficient conditions are established on the existence of the encryption-decryption mechanism and the finite-horizon state estimator.Finally,simulation results are proposed to show the effectiveness of our proposed encryption-decryption-based state estimation scheme. 展开更多

Deep learning-based battery state of charge estimation:Enhancing estimation performance with unlabelled training samples

The estimation of state of charge(SOC)using deep neural networks(DNN)generally requires a considerable number of labelled samples for training,which refer to the current and voltage pieces with knowing their corresponding SOCs.However,the collection of labelled samples is costly and time-consuming.In contrast,the unlabelled training samples,which consist of the current and voltage data with unknown SOCs,are easy to obtain.In view of this,this paper proposes an improved DNN for SOC estimation by effectively using both a pool of unlabelled samples and a limited number of labelled samples.Besides the traditional supervised network,the proposed method uses an input reconstruction network to reformulate the time dependency features of the voltage and current.In this way,the developed network can extract useful information from the unlabelled samples.The proposed method is validated under different drive cycles and temperature conditions.The results reveal that the SOC estimation accuracy of the DNN trained with both labelled and unlabelled samples outperforms that of only using a limited number of labelled samples.In addition,when the dataset with reduced number of labelled samples to some extent is used to test the developed network,it is found that the proposed method performs well and is robust in producing the model outputs with the required accuracy when the unlabelled samples are involved in the model training.Furthermore,the proposed method is evaluated with different recurrent neural networks(RNNs)applied to the input reconstruction module.The results indicate that the proposed method is feasible for various RNN algorithms,and it could be flexibly applied to other conditions as required. 展开更多

The state of health(SOH)is a critical factor in evaluating the performance of the lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Due to various end-user behaviors,the LIBs exhibit different degradation modes,which makes it challenging to estimate the SOHs in a personalized way.In this article,we present a novel particle swarm optimization-assisted deep domain adaptation(PSO-DDA)method to estimate the SOH of LIBs in a personalized manner,where a new domain adaptation strategy is put forward to reduce cross-domain distribution discrepancy.The standard PSO algorithm is exploited to automatically adjust the chosen hyperparameters of developed DDA-based method.The proposed PSODDA method is validated by extensive experiments on two LIB datasets with different battery chemistry materials,ambient temperatures and charge-discharge configurations.Experimental results indicate that the proposed PSO-DDA method surpasses the convolutional neural network-based method and the standard DDA-based method.The Py Torch implementation of the proposed PSO-DDA method is available at https://github.com/mxt0607/PSO-DDA. 展开更多

The Rotary Inverted Pendulum(RIP)is a widely used underactuated mechanical system in various applications such as bipedal robots and skyscraper stabilization where attitude control presents a significant challenge.Despite the implementation of various control strategies to maintain equilibrium,optimally tuning control gains to effectively mitigate uncertain nonlinearities in system dynamics remains elusive.Existing methods frequently rely on extensive experimental data or the designer’s expertise,presenting a notable drawback.This paper proposes a novel tracking control approach for RIP,utilizing a Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR)in combination with a reduced-order observer.Initially,the RIP system is mathematically modeled using the Newton-Euler-Lagrange method.Subsequently,a composite controller is devised that integrates an LQR for generating nominal control signals and a reduced-order observer for reconstructing unmeasured states.This approach enhances the controller’s robustness by eliminating differential terms from the observer,thereby attenuating unknown disturbances.Thorough numerical simulations and experimental evaluations demonstrate the system’s capability to maintain balance below50Hz and achieve precise tracking below1.4 rad,validating the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme. 展开更多

Firstly, the aerodynamic acceleration acting on the target is analyzed to reveal the essence of the target’s motion.Then three coupled structures for modeling aerodynamic parameters are developed by different ideas: the spiral model with a harmonic oscillator, the bank model with trigonometric functions of the bank angle and the guide model with the changing rule of guidance variables. Meanwhile, the comparison discussion is concluded to show the novelty and advantage of these models.Finally, a performance assessment in different simulation cases is presented and detailed analysis is revealed. The results show that the proposed models perform excellent properties. Moreover, the guide model produces the best tracking performance and the bank model shows the second; however, the spiral model does not outperform the maneuvering reentry vehicle(MaRV) model markedly. 展开更多

The definitions used in vehicle dynamic state estimation are first introduced, and alternative estimation structures are presented. Then, the sensor configuration schemes used to estimate vehicle velocity, sideslip angle, yaw rate and roll angle are presented. The vehicle models used for vehicle dynamic state estimation are further summarized, and representative estimation approaches are discussed. A strong tracking filter is employed to improve the tracking ability and robustness of unscented Kalman filter (UKF) when the process noise is inaccuracy, and wavelet transform is used to improve the estimate accuracy by the variance of measurement noise. An augmented square-root framework is utilized to improve the numerical stability and accuracy of UKF. Monte Carlo simulations and applications in the rapid trajectory estimation of hypersonic artillery shells confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多
