The Static Stability Region of an Integrated Electricity-Gas System Considering Voltage and Gas Pressure

In an integrated electricity-gas system(IEGS),load fluctuations affect not only the voltage in the power system but also the gas pressure in the natural gas system.The static voltage stability region(SVSR)method is a tool for analyzing the overall static voltage stability in a power system.However,in an IEGS,the SVSR boundary may be overly optimistic because the gas pressure may collapse before the voltage collapses.Thus,the SVSR method cannot be directly applied to an IEGS.In this paper,the concept of the SVSR is extended to the IEGS-static stability region(SSR)while considering voltage and gas pressure.First,criteria for static gas pressure stability in a natural gas system are proposed,based on the static voltage stability criteria in a power system.Then,the IEGS-SSR is defined as a set of active power injections that satisfies multi-energy flow(MEF)equations and static voltage and gas pressure stability constraints in the active power injection space of natural gas-fired generator units(NGUs).To determine the IEGSSSR,a continuation MEF(CMEF)method is employed to trace the boundary point in one specific NGU scheduling direction.A multidimensional hyperplane sampling method is also proposed to sample the NGU scheduling directions evenly.The obtained boundary points are further used to form the IEGSSSR in three-dimensional(3D)space via a Delaunay triangulation hypersurface fitting method.Finally,the numerical results of typical case studies are presented to demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively form the IEGS-SSR,providing a tool for IEGS online monitoring and dispatching. 展开更多

The network of Himalayan roadways and highways connects some remote regions of valleys or hill slopes,which is vital for India’s socio-economic growth.Due to natural and artificial factors,frequency of slope instabilities along the networks has been increasing over last few decades.Assessment of stability of natural and artificial slopes due to construction of these connecting road networks is significant in safely executing these roads throughout the year.Several rock mass classification methods are generally used to assess the strength and deformability of rock mass.This study assesses slope stability along the NH-1A of Ramban district of North Western Himalayas.Various structurally and non-structurally controlled rock mass classification systems have been applied to assess the stability conditions of 14 slopes.For evaluating the stability of these slopes,kinematic analysis was performed along with geological strength index(GSI),rock mass rating(RMR),continuous slope mass rating(CoSMR),slope mass rating(SMR),and Q-slope in the present study.The SMR gives three slopes as completely unstable while CoSMR suggests four slopes as completely unstable.The stability of all slopes was also analyzed using a design chart under dynamic and static conditions by slope stability rating(SSR)for the factor of safety(FoS)of 1.2 and 1 respectively.Q-slope with probability of failure(PoF)1%gives two slopes as stable slopes.Stable slope angle has been determined based on the Q-slope safe angle equation and SSR design chart based on the FoS.The value ranges given by different empirical classifications were RMR(37-74),GSI(27.3-58.5),SMR(11-59),and CoSMR(3.39-74.56).Good relationship was found among RMR&SSR and RMR&GSI with correlation coefficient(R 2)value of 0.815 and 0.6866,respectively.Lastly,a comparative stability of all these slopes based on the above classification has been performed to identify the most critical slope along this road. 展开更多

Slope stability prediction plays a significant role in landslide disaster prevention and mitigation.This paper’s reduced error pruning(REP)tree and random tree(RT)models are developed for slope stability evaluation and meeting the high precision and rapidity requirements in slope engineering.The data set of this study includes five parameters,namely slope height,slope angle,cohesion,internal friction angle,and peak ground acceleration.The available data is split into two categories:training(75%)and test(25%)sets.The output of the RT and REP tree models is evaluated using performance measures including accuracy(Acc),Matthews correlation coefficient(Mcc),precision(Prec),recall(Rec),and F-score.The applications of the aforementionedmethods for predicting slope stability are compared to one another and recently established soft computing models in the literature.The analysis of the Acc together with Mcc,and F-score for the slope stability in the test set demonstrates that the RT achieved a better prediction performance with(Acc=97.1429%,Mcc=0.935,F-score for stable class=0.979 and for unstable case F-score=0.935)succeeded by the REP tree model with(Acc=95.4286%,Mcc=0.896,F-score stable class=0.967 and for unstable class F-score=0.923)for the slope stability dataset The analysis of performance measures for the slope stability dataset reveals that the RT model attains comparatively better and reliable results and thus should be encouraged in further research. 展开更多

This procedure claculates the stress at the sliding surface by the finite element method (FEM) and takes the dynamic properties of clay into account. With this procedure, the stability of a Bohai oil-drilling ship is analyzed. The global atmospheric static stability(N2)in the middle atmosphere and its relation to gravity waves(GWs)were investigated by using the temperature profiles measured by the Sounding of the Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry(SABER)instrument from 2002 to 2018.At low latitudes,a layer with enhanced N2 occurs at an altitude of^20 km and exhibits annual oscillations caused by tropopause inversion layers.Above an altitude of^70 km,enhanced N2 exhibits semiannual oscillations at low latitudes caused by the mesosphere inversion layers and annual oscillations at high latitudes resulting from the downward shift of the summer mesopause.The correlation coefficients between N2 and GW amplitudes can be larger than 0.8 at latitudes poleward of^40°N/S.This observation provides factual evidence that a large N2 supports large-amplitude GWs and indicates that N2 plays a dominant role in maintaining GWs at least at high latitudes of the middle atmosphere.This evidence also partially explains the previous results regarding the phase changes of annual oscillations of GWs at high latitudes. 展开更多

This paper describes scientific research conducted to highlight the potential of an integrated GPR-UAV system in engineering-geological applications.The analysis focused on the stability of a natural scree slope in the Germanasca Valley,in the western Italian Alps.As a consequence of its steep shape and the related geological hazard,the study used different remote sensed methodologies such as UAV photogrammetry and geophysics survey by a GPR-drone integrated system.Furthermore,conventional in-situ surveys led to the collection of geological and geomorphological data.The use of the UAV-mounted GPR allowed us to investigate the bedrock depth under the detrital slope deposit,using a non-invasive technique able to conduct surveys on inaccessible areas prone to hazardous conditions for operators.The collected evidence and the results of the analysis highlighted the stability of the slope with Factors of Safety,verified in static conditions(i.e.,natural static condition and static condition with snow cover),slightly above the stability limit value of 1.On the contrary,the dynamic loading conditions(i.e.,seismic action applied)showed a Factor of Safety below the stability limit value.The UAV-mounted GPR represented an essential contribution to the surveys allowing the definition of the interface debris deposit-bedrock,which are useful to design the slope model and to evaluate the scree slope stability in different conditions. 展开更多

A comparative study of pseudo-static slope stability analysis using different design codes 被引量:2

Many researchers have developed new calculation methods to analyze seismic slope stability problems, but the conventional pseudo-static method is still widely used in engineering design due to its simplicity. Based on the Technical Code for Building Slope Engineering(GB 50330-2013) of China and the Guidelines for Evaluating and Mitigating Seismic Hazards in California(SP117), a comparative study on the pseudo-static method was performed. The results indicate that the largest difference between these two design codes lies in determination of the seismic equivalence reduction factor( f;). The GB 50330-2013 code specifies a single value for f;of 0.25. In SP117, numerous factors,such as magnitude and distance, are considered in determining f;. Two case studies show that the types of slope stability status evaluated by SP117 are in agreement with those evaluated by the seismic time-history stability analysis and Newmark displacement analysis. The factors of safety evaluated by SP117 can be used in practice for safe design. However, the factors of safety evaluated by GB 50330-2013 are risky for slope seismic design. 展开更多

Stability Analysis of Cylindrical Tanks under Static and Earthquake Loading

Large thin walled cylindrical above ground tanks have become more susceptible to failure by buckling during earthquakes. In this study, three different geometries of tanks with H/D (height to diameter) ratios of 2.0, 0.56, 1.0, and D/t (depth to thickness) ratios of 960.0, 1,706.67 and 640.0 respectively were analyzed for stability when subjected to the E1 Centro earthquake at the base. The Budiansky and Roth procedure was used to find the buckling loads when the tanks were empty and when they were filled with liquid up to 90% of their depth. Also, nonlinear time history analysis using ANSYS finite element computer program was performed. Analysis results show that the dynamic buckling occurs for empty tanks at very high PGA (peak ground accelerations) which are unrealistic even for major earthquakes. Furthermore, when the tanks filled with water up to 90% of its height, analysis results show that when the H/D ratio reduced by two times (i.e., from 2 to 1), the PGA for the buckling increased by six times (increase from 0.25g to 1 .Sg). Hence, H/D ratio plays an important role in the earthquake stability design of over ground steel tanks. 展开更多

In this study, the static stability of the grasp of a single planar object is analyzed using the potential energy method. In previous papers, we considered cases in which individual fingers were replaced by a multidimensional translational spring model, in which each finger is constructed with prismatic joints. Human hands and the most developed mechanical hands are constructed with revolute joints. In this paper, the effects of fingertip rotation and a revolute joint spring model are investigated. A grasp stiffness matrix is analytically derived by considering not only frictional rolling contact but also frictionless sliding contact. The difl'erence between the frictional stiffness matrix and the frictionless one is analytically obtained. The effect of local curvature at contact points is analytically derived. The grasp displacement directions affected by the change in curvature and the contact condition are also obtained. The derived stiffness matrix of the revolute joint model is compared with that of the prismatic joint model, and then the stiffness relation is clarified. The gravity effect of the object is also considered. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated through numerical examples. The stability is evaluated by the eigenvalues of the grasp stiffness matrix, and the grasp displacement direction is obtained by the corresponding eigenvectors. Calculation of static voltage stability margin(SVSM)of AC/DC power systems with lots of renewable energy sources(RESs)integration requires consideration of uncertain load growth and renewable energy generation output.This paper presents a bi-level optimal power flow(BLOPF)model to identify the worst-case SVSM of an AC/DC power system with line commutation converter-based HVDC and multi-terminal voltage sourced converter-based HVDC transmission lines.Constraints of uncertain load growth’s hypercone model and control mode switching of DC converter stations are considered in the BLOPF model.Moreover,uncertain RES output fluctuations are described as intervals,and two three-level optimal power flow(TLOPF)models are established to identify interval bounds of the system worst-case SVSM.The two TLOPF models are both transformed into max–min bi-level optimization models according to independent characteristics of different uncertain variables.Then,transforming the inner level model into its dual form,max–min BLOPF models are simplified to single-level optimization models for direct solution.Calculation results on the modified IEEE-39 bus AC/DC case and an actual large-scale AC/DC case in China indicate correctness and efficiency of the proposed identification method. 展开更多

The paper is devoted to mathematical modelling of static and dynamic stability of a simply supported three-layered beam with a metal foam core. Mechanical properties of the core vary along the vertical direction. The field of displacements is for- mulated using the classical broken line hypothesis and the proposed nonlinear hypothesis that generalizes the classical one. Using both hypotheses, the strains are determined as well as the stresses of each layer. The kinetic energy, the elastic strain energy, and the work of load are also determined. The system of equations of motion is derived using Hamilton's principle. Finally, the system of three equations is reduced to one equation of motion, in particular, the Mathieu equation. The Bubnov-Galerkin method is used to solve the system of equations of motion, and the Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the second-order differential equation. Numerical calculations are done for the chosen family of beams. The critical loads, unstable regions, angular frequencies of the beam, and the static and dynamic equilibrium paths are calculated analytically and verified numerically. Expressed in linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), the proposed delay-dependent stability conditions can be checked using the recently developed algorithms. Since the aerodynamic center moving backward sharply in hypersonic flight,the stability margin of the hypersonic vehicle increases largely while the maneuverability decreases.We proposed a novel method to solve this contradiction.We used relaxed static stability(RSS)to improve the maneuverability in hypersonic flight,and designed the stability augmentation system(SAS)to ensure the stability in subsonic flight.Therefore,the relationship between static stability and maneuverability was quantitatively analyzed in the first step,and the numerical value of RSS was obtained on the premise of good maneuverability.Secondly,the relationship between static stability and aerodynamic parameters was quantitatively analyzed.We properly adjusted aerodynamic parameters based on the quantitative relationship to achieve the specific static stability set in the first step,and therefore provided the engineering realization methods.The vehicle will be statically unstable in subsonic flight with the specific static stability.Lastly,SAS was needed to ensure the stability of the vehicle in subsonic flight.Simulation studies were conducted by comparing the linear SAS to the nonlinear SAS,and the results showed that the nonlinear dynamicinversion controller can synthesize with proportional-integrall-derivative(PID)controller robustly and stabilize the hypersonic vehicle. 展开更多

It is significant to research the voltage stability of the wind power centralized system (WPCS) for the effective development of the large scale clustering wind energy resources. A steady state voltage stability analysis of the WPCS by employing the PV curve and model analysis is proposed to reveal the voltage stability influence from different aspects. The PV curve is utilized to trace and indicate the voltage collapse point of the WPCS when the small disturbance of wind power is increased gradually. Then the steady state voltage instability modes of the WPCS are analyzed by calculating the bus participation factors of the minimum eigenvalue model at the collapse point. The simulation results of an actual WPCS in North China show that the static state voltage instability mode of the WPCS is closely related to the operating features and control strategies of different reactive power sources. In addition, the implementation of the doubly-fed induction generator wind turbine generator voltage control is beneficial to improve the WPCS voltage stability. 展开更多

Single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system with SVC located at the terminal of generator has been considered to evaluate the proposed SVC and PSS controllers. The coefficients of PSS and SVC controller have been optimized by Chaos, PSO and SFL algorithms. Fi-nally the system with proposed controllers is simulated for the special disturbance in input power of genera-tor, and then the dynamic responses of generator have been presented. The simulation results show that the system composed with recommended controller has outstanding operation in fast damping of oscillations of power system and describes an application of Chaos, PSO and SFL algorithms to the problem of designing a Lead-Lag controller used in PSS and SVC in power system. 展开更多

Hence inter-area oscillations cause severe problems like damage to generators, reduce the power transfer capability of transmission lines, increase wear and tear on network components, increase line losses etc. This paper is to maintain the stability of system by damping inter-area oscillations. Implementation of new equipment consists of high power electronics based technologies such as FACTs and proper controller design has become an essential to provide better damping performance than Power System Stabilizer (PSS). With development of Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS), remote signals have become as feedback signals to design Wide Area Damping Controller (WADC) for FACTs devices. In this work, POD is applied to both SVC and SSSC. Simulation studies are carried out in Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) environment to evaluate the effectiveness of the FACTs controller in a large area power system. Synchronized distributed measurements of mode parameters create a technical feasibility for development and implementing new technologies of control the mode stability and the admissibility of EPS (electric power system) mode. Discussion will focus on different models obtained from data synchronized measurements for operational and automatic emergency control without EPS being totally controlled. According to the proposed technology, the generator's output power restrictions are determined in real-time by the terms a static stability using the generators' mode model as a multipole with connection nodes of generators' electromotive forces (the matrix of SMA (self and mutual admittances) of electromotive forces of generators). Potential applications of the technology are distribution network with the main substation and generators of commensurable capacity, and transmission network with large power plants (generators) distributed into the network. The one-level control system for all of generators with defining the generator's power limits relative to the main substation is implemented in the first case. In the second case, the two-level control system is brought in, based on the separation of large and small generation motion. The results of the method and technology efficiency verification are shown in the paper, by both computer simulations of the power system modes and its physical model. 展开更多
