A series of stearates with different rare-earth ion were investigated as thermal stabilizers for rigid PVC at 180 ℃ in air. Their stabilizing efficiency was based on measuring the rate of dehydrochlorination. The resulted revealed the higher stabilizing efficiency of the investigated rare-earth stearates as thermal stabilizers for rigid PVC compared with the thermal stabilizers for industry: calcium stearate, zinc stearate, butyl stannum mercaptide, phosphite esters, β-diketone and epoxidized sunflower oil. This was well illustrated by longer incubation period (T_S) values and lower rate of dehydrochlorination. The stable efficiency was affected by the nature of rare-earth element's individual electronic shell. The mechanism for the stabilizing effect of rare-earth stearates was proposed. Waste shell stacking with odor and toxicity is a serious hazard to our living environment. To make effective use of the natural resources, the shell powder was applied as a filler of outdoor thermal insulation coatings. Sodium stearate(SS) was used to modify the properties of shell powder to reduce its agglomeration and to increase its compatibility with the emulsion. The oil absorption rate and the spectrum reflectance of the shell powder show that the optimized content of SS as a modifier is 1.5wt%. The total spectrum reflectance of the coating made with the shell powder that is modified at this optimum SS content is 9.33% higher than that without any modification. At the optimum SS content of 1.5wt%, the thermal insulation of the coatings is improved by 1.0℃ for the cement mortar board and 1.6℃ for the steel plate, respectively. The scouring resistance of the coating with the 1.5wt% SS-modified shell powder is three times that of the coating without modification. 展开更多

In this study, the barite nanoparticles were successfully modified with stearate and the influence of stearate addition on the performance of barite nanoparticles was systematically investigated. The products were characterized by activating factor analysis, contact angle test, surface energy calculation, sedimentation rate calculation, rheological measurement, and FT-IR analysis, etc. As the quantity of added stearate increased, both the activating factor and contact angle of barite nanoparticles increased first then decreased. When the stearate content was 5% of the mass of barite nanoparticles, the activating factor and water contact angle of modified particles reached maximum value, 97% and 126% respectively. At this time, the sedimentation rate reached minimum, and so did the surface energy. The rheological test reveals that the viscosity of modified barite nanoparticles/petronol system decreases greatly, indicating the surface performance of barite nanoparticles has changed from hydrophilicity to lipophilicity after modification. C=O and COO stretching vibration peaks were found in the FT-IR spectra, which proves that the stearate has combined onto the surface of barite nanoparticles. Finally, according to the zeta potential result of unmodified barite, the possible modification mechanism was provided. 展开更多

This study investigated the formulation mechanism of microspheres via internal surfactant distribution. Eudragit L100 based microspheres loaded with bovine serum albumin were prepared by solid in oil in oil emulsion solvent evaporation method using acetone and liquid paraffin system containing sucrose stearate as a surfactant. The fabricated microspheres were evaluated for encapsulation efficiency, particle size, production yield, and in vitro release characteristics. The internal structures of microspheres were characterized using synchrotron radiation X-ray microcomputed tomography(SR-μCT). The enhanced contrast made the sucrose stearate distinguished from Eudragit to have its three dimensional(3D) distribution. Results indicated that the content and concentration determined the state of sucrose stearate and had significant influences on the release kinetics of protein. The dispersity of sucrose stearate was the primary factor that controlled the structure of the microspheres and further affected the encapsulation efficiency, effective drug loading, as well as in vitro release behavior. In conclusion, the 3D internal distribution of surfactant in microspheres and its effects on protein release behaviors have been revealed for the first time. The highly resolved 3D architecture provides new evidence for the deep understanding of the microsphere formation mechanism. 展开更多

Glycerol stearate was synthesized by esterification with non-toxic,inexpensive glycerol and stearic acid.The composite of glycerol stearate and Pinus radiata wood was prepared by vacuum impregnation.By Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)analysis,there was the generation of new C=O stretching vibration band of glycerol stearate in comparison with stearic acid.This confirms that glycerol stearate was successfully synthesized.The weight gain,FTIR spectrum and morphological analyses of the composite indicate that glycerol stearate was impregnated into the interior lumina of the cells.Thermal analysis showed that the maximal degradation temperature of the composite was 42℃higher than untreated wood.Contact angle images indicated that the value of the composite was134.2°.Hydrophobicity(the repulsion of water)of the composite was stronger than glycerol stearate,which a large number of hydroxyl of wood reacted with the oxygen-containing groups of glycerol stearate,improved hydrophobicity and thermal stability,thereby enhancing the potential application of P.radiata wood. 展开更多

Objective:To perform phytochemical analyses on the leaves of Ocimum basilicum L.(O.basilicum),to elucidate the structure of isolate and then perform the antisickling activity on the crude extract and on the isolate.Methods:The Emmel test performed on the acidified methanolic extract of this plant was used to evaluate the antisickling activity.The structure characterization of the active compound was performed using chromatographic techniques for the separation and the spectroscopic ones for structure elucidation(1H-NMR,13C-NMR.COSY,HMBC).Resurte:The chemical screening on the crude extract revealed the presence of polyphenols(flavonoids,anthocyanins,leucoanthocyanins,tannins,quinones) alkaloids,saponins,triterpenoids and steroids.The ohtained extract after evaporation yielded 34.50g(11.5%) out of 300g of powdered leaves of O.basilicum.The acidified methanolic extract and butyl stearate showed an interesting antisickling activity.Conchisions:The acidified methanolic extract and butyl stearate from O.basilicum displayed a good antisickling activity.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first time to report the antisickling activity of this compound in this plant.The synmesized compound presented the same spectroscopic characteristics than the natural one and the antisickling activities of its derivatives are understudying. 展开更多

The results showed that AgSt/AgC1 composite grains were composed of plateqike AgSt grains with small face-centered cubic AgC1 particles formed on the surface of AgSt. UV spectra displayed a red shift of absorption for AgSt/AgC1 relative to pure AgSt or AgC1. The usability of polyoxyethylene stearate with 10 ethylene epoxides(POES 10) as lubricant in warp sizing was investigated for replacing sizing cream in order to prevent blockage of paste delivery tube.The influences of POES 10 and sizing cream upon the adhesion of starch to fibers and the performances of starch film were measured and compared.Then,the usability of POES 10 as lubricant was evaluated through the comparison between POES 10 and sizing cream in tensile behaviors,abrasion resistance,and hairiness of sized cotton yarns.The experimental observation demonstrates that the influence of POES 10 upon the adhesion is similar to that of sizing cream.POES 10 is superior to sizing cream in tensile strength and breaking elongation of starch film when mass content of lubricants is equal to or exceeds 2%.Incorporating POES 10 into starch makes starch film more resistant to wear.Furthermore,POES 10 is preferred to sizing cream in the increase in tensile strength,loss in elongation,and abrasion resistance of sized cotton yarns.Using POES 10 as lubricant in size formulation is favorable to the decrease of longer hairs on sized yarns.POES 10 exhibits potential use during cotton warp sizing for replacing sizing cream. 展开更多

The effect of neodymium stearate (NdSt) on cure and mechanical properties of expoxidized natural rubber with 25 mol.% epoxidation (ENR25) was studied in the concentration range of 0 to 2 phr, and the relationship between structure and mechanical properties of ENR25 vulcanizates was also discussed. Neodymium sterate was synthesized by saponification of stearic acid with newly formed rare earth hydroxide m water medium, and the structure of NdSt was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Crosslinking den- sity of vulcanized natural rubber was studied by equilibrium swelling method. The results indicated that the interaction force between carboxylic ion of NdSt prepared in the lab and Nd ion was mainly ionic bond through FTIR analysis. NdSt could accelerate the vulcanization of ENR25 and influence the network structure of ENR25 vulcanizates. The incorporation of 1 phr NdSt for ENR25 vulcanizatcs showed the optimal aging resistance. 展开更多

A plate/plate type test rig, in which one end face of the alumina cylinder test piece rubs reciprocally against a static brass plate at a low speed, was developed for measuring friction coefficient and weight loss under different electric field conditions. Emulsion of 1wt% zinc stearate dispersed in deionized water was used as lubricant in the experiments. Experiment results show that the friction coefficient can be obviously affected by the presence of positive voltages (the voltages in which the lower specimen was used as cathode were called positive voltages or "+" voltages, while the voltages with a reverse polarity were called negative voltages or "-" voltages). A+20D.C.V voltage can lead to a dramatic increase of friction coefficient by up to 200%. When the external voltage is turned on and off periodically, the friction coefficient goes up and down almost synchronously. The average response time is 1 min. The preliminary analytic results imply that the equilibrium between the generation and destruction of the boundary films composed of stearate on the sliding surface was changed by the applied external electric fields. By consideration of the dramatic increase of friction coefficient and the rapid response to the external voltage, it is expected that active controlling of friction coefficient by external electric fields is feasible. 展开更多

The effect of neodymium stearate (NdSt) synthesized by saponification method on thermal degradation and thermo-oxidative degradation of expoxidized natural rubber with 25 mol.% epoxidation (ENR25) was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and the structure of ENR25 vulcanized with NdSt after thermo-oxidative decomposition was characterized using Fourier transform infared spectroscopy-attenuated total-reflectance (FTIR-ATR). The thermal degradation kinetic parameters of ENR25 with different loadings of NdSt were determined by Coats-Redfern method. The results showed that the thermal degradation of ENR25 in nitrogen was a one-step reaction regardless of NdSt content, whereas the thermo-oxidative degradation was a multiple-step reaction. The thermal and thermo-oxidative stability of the ENR25 vulcanizates with the addition of NdSt was higher than that of pure ENR25 vulcanizates. The ENR25 vulcanizates with the incorporation of 1 phr (per hundred parts of rubber) NdSt imparted the highest activa- tion energy (E) of thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation. This could be attributed to the many unoccupied orbits in rare earth Nd, which could capture the free radicals and make the epoxide groups stable in the process of thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation for ENR25. 展开更多

This work investigates the degradation and properties of a thermoplastically prepared composite comprising a polylactide/ hybrid zinc stearate-silver system. The influence of the zinc stearate-silver system on the properties of the composite is investigated by electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and tensile tests. Furthermore, the antimicrobial activities of the systems are examined. The degradation behaviour of the composites is studied in both abiotic and biotic (composting) environments at an elevated temperature of 58 ℃. The results reveal good dispersion of the additive in the PLA matrix, a stabilizing effect exerted by the same on the polylactide matrix during processing, and slight reduction in glass transition temperature. The zinc stearate-silver component also reduces brittleness and extends elongation of the composite. Abiotic hydrolysis is not significantly affected, which is in contrast with pure PLA, although mineralization during the early stage of biodegradation increases noticeably. The composite exhibits antimicrobial activity, even at the lowest dosage of the zinc stearate/silver component (1 wt%). Moreover, Ag and Zn contents were found to be present in the composite during abiotic hydrolysis, which was demonstrated by minimal diffusion of Ag ions from the matrix and very extensive washing of compounds that contained Zn. 展开更多

This work studied possibilities of using lanthanum stearate(LaS t) as an antioxidant in epoxidized natural rubber containing 25 mol.% expoxidation(ENR25) compounds. For comparison purposes, two commercial antioxidant 4010 NA and MB were also used. The influence of LaS t, antioxidant 4010 NA and MB on cure characteristics, mechanical properties, crosslink density, hot air aging and thermo-oxidative degradation were studied. The results indicated that the incorporation of LaS t and antioxidants could accelerate the vulcanization of ENR. The ENR vulcanizates with antioxidant MB had better mechanical properties than 4010 NA and LaS t. Compared with antioxidant 4010 NA and MB, the ENR25 vulcanizates with the addition of LaS t exhibited the best hot air aging resistance and thermo-oxidative stability. 展开更多

A new method of size control for CdS nanoparticles, called common cation coprecipitation, is reported. In the course of coprecipitation, both CdS and CdSt<sub>2</sub>(cadmium stearate) formations are diffusion-controlled and their rates are quite different. The size of CdS nanoparticles depends on the ratio of initial concentrations of S<sup>2-</sup> to St<sup>-</sup> (stearate ion). Characterized by UV-Vis absorption, XRD, TEM, fluorescence and XPS, the results obtained show that the coprecipitate is a composite, i. e. CdS particle inserts in the CdSt<sub>2</sub> molecular layers to form a sandwich-like structure. The method reported for size control of CdS nanoparticles might be called kinetic self-assembling. 展开更多

Montmorillonites (MMT) was modified with nonionic surfactant Trion X-100 (OP-10) and anionic surfactants sodium stearate (SSTA) and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) respectively. In this study, the effects of anionic surfactant types and MMT types on modification montmorillonite were investigated. XRD analysis results showed that SSTA/OP-10/MMT and SDBS/OP-10/MMT were successfully obtained. The basal spacing of SSTA/OP-10/MMT reached 5.07nm and the SSTA intercalation reaction was relatively stable. Different types of MMT (Xinjiang natural sodium montmorillonite(MMT-1), Jianping sodium montmorillonite (MMT-2) and artificial sodium montmorillonite(MMT-3)) were modified with SSTA/OP-10. XRD test results showed that MMT-1, MMT-2 and MMT-3 can be modified by SSTA/OP-10. Anion-nonionic organic montmorillonite (SSTA/OP-10/MMT-1, SSTA/OP-10/MMT-2 and SSTA/OP-10/MMT-3 were successfully obtained respectively. The higher expansion capacity was found to be beneficial to organic modification. 展开更多

Influences of lanthanum stearate (LaSt3) and calcium stearate/zinc stearate (Ca/Zn) stabilizers on stabilization efficiency of dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in air were investigated. The results revealed that the stabilization effect of DBTDL could be achieved by the La/Sn stabilizers with a ratio of 8/2. Addition of DBTDL could enhance thermal property and reduce dynamic storage modulus (G') at 180℃ for PVC containing LaSt3 or Ca/Zn stabilizers. On the other hand, incorporation of LaSh did not influence the stabilization efficiency of DBTDL markedly; while addition of Ca/Zn stabilizers could significantly decrease thermal property for the DBTDL stabilized PVC.
