The directional backlight emitting the parallel lig...An autostereoscopic display composed of a directional backlight, an image display panel, a striped half-wave plate,and a polarized lenticular lens array is proposed. The directional backlight emitting the parallel light can redirect the cones of light to lenticular lens array and reduce the chromatic spatial-interference effect. The striped half-wave plate, located in front of the image display panel, transformed the polarization direction of the lights from the directional backlight into two mutually perpendicular directions. The polarized lenticular lens array not only can divide the light from the left and right view images to send to left and right eyes but also can reduce the crosstalk of the stereoscopic images. The proposed autostereoscopic display can produce high quality stereoscopic images without crosstalk at the optimal viewing distance.展开更多
SimWall is a user-friendly, stereo tiled display wall system composed of 18 commodity projectors operated by a Linux graphics cluster. Collaborating together, these projectors work as a single logical display capable ...SimWall is a user-friendly, stereo tiled display wall system composed of 18 commodity projectors operated by a Linux graphics cluster. Collaborating together, these projectors work as a single logical display capable of giving a high-resolution show, large-scale, and passive stereo scene. In order to avoid tedious system setup and maintenance, software-based automatic geometry and photometric calibration are used. The software calibration is integrated to the system seamlessly by an on-card transform method and is transparent to users. To end-users, SimWall works just as a common PC, but provides super computing, rendering and displaying ability. In addition, SimWall has stereoscopic function that gives users a semi-immersive experience in polarized passive way. This paper presents system architecture, implementation, and other technical issues such as hardware constraints, projectors alignment, geometry and photometric calibration, implementation of passive stereo, and development of overall soft- ware environment.展开更多
There is a deviation between actual and theoretical perceived positions of virtual object in stereoscop-ic display.Therefore,methods for precise position perception in real world are proposed in this paper.The causes ...There is a deviation between actual and theoretical perceived positions of virtual object in stereoscop-ic display.Therefore,methods for precise position perception in real world are proposed in this paper.The causes for the deviation are analyzed on the basis of geometrical optics .Then deviation correctionsare performed by error compensation with mathematic method and by remodeling virtual viewpoint dynami-cally with the movement of physical viewpoint.Experimental results show that these methods can reducethe position deviation to less than 10 millimeter,meeting the requirements for direct manipulation in mul-ti-sensory virtual environment.展开更多

Main advantages of using aperture grille include no reflection and no absorption in apertures, as well as wide viewing angle. These advantages are investigated with theoretical calculations and experiments by use of several kinds of LED panels, such as a fine-pitch LED panel and a 140-inch large LED panel. Limitations of viewing angle by parallax barrier are analyzed in conventional black stripes on a transparent substrate type and in aperture grille type. Experimental results straw use of aperture grille increases contrast and reduce reflection on the aperture surface.展开更多
