For the mixing-sensitive reactions, both chemical kinetics and mixing conditions of the reactants determine the distributions of products. The direct quadrature method of moments combining with the interaction by exchange with the mean micro-mixing model(DQMOM-IEM) has been validated for the chemical reacting flows in microreactors. Quite encouraging simulation results offer great promise, but the applicability of this method is needed to be explored furthermore, such as in stirred reactors. In this work, the two-environment DQMOM-IEM model was created with C language and used to customize Fluent through the user-defined functions. The mixing effects on the course of parallel competing chemical reactions carried out in a semi-batch single-phase stirred reactor were predicted. The simulation results show that the rising feed velocity enlarges the volume of reaction zone and maximize the yield of the by-product, which also indicates that the feed stream is more difficultly dispersed into the main stream and the zone surrounding feedpipe exit with high turbulent kinetic dissipation rate cannot be efficiently used. 展开更多

The objective of this work is using the online measurement method to study the process of precipitation of nickel hydroxide in a single-feed semi-batch stirred reactor with an internal diameter ofD = 240mm. The effects of impeller speed, impeller type, impeller diameter and feed location on the mean particle size d43 and particle size distribution (PSD) were investigated, d43 and PSD were measured online using a Malvern Insitec Liquid Pro- cess Sizer every 20 s. It was found that d43 varied between 13 kwh and 26 lain under different operating conditions, and it decreased with increasing impeller diameter. When feeding at the off-bottom distance of D/2 under lower impeller speeds, d43 was significantly smaller than that at D/3. PSDs were slightly influenced by operating conditions. 展开更多

The effects of particle size, impeller clearance and impeller speed are assessed to show how condition variations influence power consumption in the water-solid slurry suspension in an agitated tank. The energy efficiency of slurry height variation, impeller type and diameter, and solid movement speed has been investigated with six soil series stirred in a soil-water slurry. Coarser sand particles are observed to significantly increase power consumption, while finer particles, for instance clay, decrease the stirring power requirement. The 3-blade HR100 SUPERMIX? impeller manufactured by SATAKE generally performs more efficiently than a conventional4-pitched blade turbine. The impeller's geometric design, including diameter and number of blades influences the impeller's energy efficiency, and HR100 impellers with greater diameters remarkably reduce power consumption. The tests demonstrated that the power required to provide off-bottom solid suspension and solid dispersion can be reduced dramatically by increasing the slurry height rather than by accelerating the impeller, if this option is possible. 展开更多
