Reading and Writing Practices： Case Studies at the Sergio Arboleda University of Colombia

This research project analyzes the reading and writing practices used in five first and second year undergraduate courses of different disciplines at a Colombian university. During one semester, we conducted polls, class observations, and interviews with teachers. The data collected contain information about the strategies that teachers use to guide, clarify, and evaluate the readings they assigned. It also informs about the ways in which teachers classify texts and participate in the process of composing, editing, and evaluating the students＇ writing. Finally, the data inform about the role that teachers assign to the practices of reading and writing in their courses. The results of the study prove that there is a misconception based on the idea that there is a unique way of understanding and practicing reading and writing in the academia, and that there is a set of unique strategies that are transferable to any discipline or field of study. The cases analyzed in this study suggest that it would be much more effective to incorporate intensive reading and writing strategies in disciplinary courses, than to concentrate on first year writing courses.

Experiment of Adopting the Learner Blog in CALL-based Practical English Writing Course

The learner blog is adopted in the instruction of CALL-based Practical English Writing course for A-level non-Eng lish major sophomores in our school in the spring this year.After examining how the program is implemented in detail,sugges tions are provided for future instructors in this related program.To ensure the program a good start,it is advisable for instructors to set aside a certain time to help each student to create a blog account in the beginning.Besides,it is requisite to provide stu dents with blogs titles with elaborate design and with the evaluation and further comment of the blog in the course of face-toface communication.Using of blogs in CALL-based Practical English Course is helpful in improving students'writing quality,in gearing up self-introspection for participants,in creating cooperative learning community,in fostering autonomous learning and cooperative learning,in building up communicative channels between students and instructors and among students themselves.

A Reflection on a Teaching Practice

The present paper is a reflection on a teaching practice which employed second language acquisition(SLA) theories and teaching methodologies. The students taught were second-year non-English majors from X university and the course book used was New Horizon College English: Reading and Writing(3 rd edition). SLA theories involved include Input Hypothesis, Noticing Hypothesis and Comprehensible Output Hypothesis; teaching methodologies applied include Grammar-Translation Method,Communicative Language Teaching and Task Based Language Teaching(TBLT). After a semester-long teaching practice, the present reflection was completed after a deep discussion with the teacher. Students description, teaching process, and merits and demerits of this practice were illustrated.

A Study on Effective Strategies for Improving English Writing and Teaching to College Students

This paper studies how to effectively improve the English writing skills of college students.It introduces the importance of English writing skills and the current situation,and finds that college students generally have problems such as insufficient vocabulary and frequent grammatical errors;it analyses the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and modern teaching methods,with the traditional method focusing too much on the form,while the modern method may neglect the consolidation of basic knowledge and personalized needs.Effective strategies for university students are proposed,including classroom teaching,personalised instruction and practical activities.In classroom teaching,writing tasks with practical application scenarios are designed and diversified teaching methods are used.In personalised instruction,students’needs are understood and targeted instruction is provided.In practical activities,diverse writing tasks are designed and effective feedback mechanisms are established.Finally,the contributions of the study and future research directions are summarised.

科学研究方法与论文写作规范课程改革创新和实践

该文以优化课程内容设置、改革教学方式、创新考核形式和融合课程思政等为改革目的,阐述科学研究方法与论文写作规范课程的教学改革举措和实践成效。从科学研究方法与学术规范、科学论文撰写与发表、科研资料查询等课程内容设置的优化改进,线下和线上混合的互动教学方式改革,过程性考核的形式创新,以及课程思政的灵活融合等方面进行方法创新。通过该课程的改革创新和实践,可实现提升其教学质量和与时俱进的目的,进而提高学生探索真理、解决问题和科研创新能力以及科技兴国意识。

日本的空海法师不仅是一位佛学大师,而且在骈文方面也有独特之处:一方面,他有比较具体的骈文主张,对骈文的形成原因、存在价值、创作方法等都有理论上的自觉;另一方面,他从青年时代起就用汉文进行骈文创作,不仅在对偶、用典、藻饰、声律四个要素上下过很多工夫,取得可观的成就,而且还自觉地变通骈散,各取所长,在骈散结合上也成效显著。从总体上看,不愧为骈文领域的大手笔。

Exploring Teachers' Personal Practical Knowledge through Narrative Inquiry——A Case Study on a College English Teacher

Teachers play an important role in the successful implementation of the current curriculum innovation and their personal practi cal knowledge is a decisive factor in their teaching and that teachers' knowledge affects every aspect of the teaching act.This paper tries to explore teachers' personal practical knowledge of a college English teacher and her reading class.It shows how to present her teaching contents,design teaching methods and activities in order to accomplish her teaching tasks and teaching goals.The study combines narrative analysis of the reading design with a process inquiry about teaching and learning.Hopefully,the findings would shed some light on teach ers' professional development.

Improvement of EFL Learners＇ Speaking and Writing through Reflective Scenario-based Learning

Chinese students＇ poor communicative ability in oral and written English is one of the main concerns in English teaching and learning in China. In the new syllabus of college English, the priority has shifted from reading to speaking. This paper intends to explore an effective method to improve students＇ speaking and writing ability. In the light of the advantages of Scenario-based Learning, two reflective SBL models are introduced.

The Cornerstone of Improving College Students'English Writing Ability

指向“学-练-评”一体化的高中英语应用文写作探究——以人教版(2019)高中英语教材B1 U1 Reading for Writing为例

本文借鉴高中英语“三段七步”读思写整合教学模式,结合具体教学课例,探究高中英语应用文写作课堂“学-练-评”一体化的有效路径。课例以建议信写作为目标,通过“读”“思”“写”三个阶段的活动对建议信的文体特征进行学、练、评,从而达成知识的学习理解、应用实践和迁移创新。基于本课教学实践,本文提出以下应用文写作教学建议:精“学”范文,聚焦文本特征,确定读写目标,促进学的高效输入;“练”“评”结合,应用文体特征,落实课堂目标,实现以评促学、以评促练,从而提升学生的应用文写作能力。
