Nine stiffened LY12CZ aluminum alloy panels with three different types of damage are tested for residual strength. Each specimen is pre-cracked at rivet holes by saw cuts and subjected to a monotonically increasing tensile load until failure is occurred and the failure load is recorded. The stress intensity factors at the tips of the lead crack and the adjacent WFD cracks of the stiffened aluminum alloy panels are calculated by compounding approach and finite element method (FEM) respectively. The residual strength of the stiffened panels with WFD is evaluated by the engineering method with plastic zone linkup criterion and the FEM with apparent fracture toughness criterion respectively. The predicted residual strength agrees well with the experiment results. It indicates that in engineering practice these methods can be used for residual strength evaluation with the acceptable accuracy. It can be seen from this research that WFD can significantly reduce the residual strength and the critical crack length of the stiffened panels with WFD. The effect of WFD crack length on residual strength is also studied.展开更多

Fatigue is the phenomenon when rocks under cyclic loading fail at much lower strength as compared to those subjected to the monotonic loading conditions. A few selected cored granodiorite and sandstone specimens have been subjected to uniaxial cyclic compression tests to obtain the unconfined fatigue strength and life. This study seeks to examine the effects of cyclic loading conditions, loading amplitude and applied stress level on the fatigue life of sandstone, as a soft rock, and granodiorite, as a hard rock, under uniaxial compression test. One aim of this study is to determine which of the loading conditions has a stronger effect on rock fatigue response. The fatigue response of hard rocks and soft rocks is also compared. It is shown that the loading amplitude is the most important factor affecting the cyclic response of the tested rocks. The more the loading amplitude, the shorter the fatigue life, and the greater the strength degradation. The granodiorite specimens showed more strength degradation compared to the sandstone specimens when subjected to cyclic loading. It is shown that failure modes of specimens under cyclic loadings are different from those under static loadings. More local cracks were observed under cyclic loadings especially for granodiorite rock specimens.展开更多

It is concluded that the inner original defects, which derived from the manufacturing process of composite laminates, are the common and major reason of causing the random distributions of the static strength and the fatigue life. And there is a correlative relation between the two distributions. With the study of statistical relationship between the fatigue loading and the fatigue life in the uniform confidence level and the same survival rate S-N curves of material, the relationship between the static strength distribution and the fatigue life distribution through a material S-N curve model has been obtained. Experimental results showed that for most tested specimens failed in a VHCF regime, a fatigue crack originated from the interior of specimen with a fish-eye pattern, which contained a fine granular area (FGA) centered by an inclusion as the crack origin. Then, a two-parameter model is proposed to predict the fatigue life of high-strength steels with fish-eye mode failure in a VHCF regime, which takes into account the inclusion size and the FGA size. The model was verified by the data of present experiments and those in the literature. Furthermore, an analytic formula was obtained for estimating the equivalent crack growth rate within the FGA. The results also indicated that the stress intensity factor range at the front of the FGA varies within a small range, which is irrespective of stress amplitude and fatigue life.展开更多

It was described in design principle, mechanics, chemical compositions of their deposited metal and manufacturing methods. It was proved that the best transformation starting temperature from austenite to martensite of the deposited metal of LTTE was at about 191℃ and it was obtained by adding alloying elements such as Cr, Ni, Mn and Mo. Finally, the joints lose the resistance to the external force. At present, as there is no deciding method of the fatigue strength (fatigue life), this paper proposed it from the result obtained by bending test for fillet welded joints. Judging initiation of the fatigue crack from the measured value of strain gages, there was a possibility that the fatigue crack occurred at both sides of fillet welded joints. However, this was a different result from that of macrograph of cross section. On the other hand, the results obtained by FSM (field signature method) coincided with the result of macrograph of cross section. For the initial state, potential difference obtained by the electrostatic analysis based on FEM (finite element method) and that by FSM was accurately coincided. After confirming validity of the crack model for analysis, the crack model was specified by reproducing the propagating process of crack accurately through trial and error. It was concluded that the state which could not resist to the external force was regarded as fatigue strength based on equivalent stress obtained by elastic stress analysis for specified crack model. From the experimental result, it was proposed that 90% of repetition number corresponding to the state which could not resist to the external force (at the finish of the test) was regarded as fatigue strength (fatigue life) in consideration of safety and as the first approximation.展开更多

文摘This paper studied the spot welding structure of ultra-high strength steel 22MnB5.ANSYS software was adopted to simulate its static strength;BS5400 algorithm was used to calculate the fatigue life;and the grouping method was used to test the fatigue performance of tensile shear spot weld specimens. The simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental values.Based on the validation of the simulation method, influences of different structural parameters on static strength and fatigue life were explored by adopting single factor. The results showed that within the selected structure parameter range, increase of the sheet thickness, nugget diameter, sheet width and overlapping length can lead to longer fatigue life.Besides, the fatigue life of spot weld took on a linear relationship with the overlapping length,a DoseResp relationship with the sheet thickness, and a single exponential decay relationship with the sheet width and the nugget diameter. Moreover,in order to estimate the impact from various parameters on the fatigue life of the specimens, the Taguchi orthogonal design method was applied in the simulation design. The simulating result indicated that influence of the sheet thickness on fatigue life was the most significant. In addition, the effects of nugget diameter, sheet width and overlapping length on fatigue life were reduced in turn.

文摘Residual strength is usually used to characterize the degradation rule of material performance under the cyclic load, which is critical to fatigue life prediction as well as reliability assessment of materials. In order to reveal the probability characteristics of residual strength of material under uncertain cyclic load, the relationship between external stress and fatigue life(i.e.,the equation of S-N curve)is considered in this study.Firstly, the probability density function of fatigue life under uncertain cyclic load is derived from the probability density function of external stress. Then,a probability model of residual strength is proposed on the basis of a fundamental assumption that the residual strength and the remaining life of material depend on the same damage state. Finally, the validity of the proposed model is verified by an illustrative example. The results indicate that the probability distribution of residual strength of material is affected by both the external factor(i.e.,probability characteristics of the load)and the internal factor(i.e.,fatigue performance parameters of material).
文摘Generally, the fatigue crack is initiated and then it is propagated toward the welding direction and the thickness direction. From the experimental result, it was proposed that 90% of repetition number corresponding to the state which could not resist to the external force (at the finish of the test) was regarded as fatigue strength (fatigue life) in consideration of safety and as the first approximation.
