Herein, the double-nanophase intragranular yttrium oxide dispersion strengthened iron alloy with high strength and appreciable ductility was fabricated by solution combustion route and subsequent spark plasma sintering, and the influences of yttrium oxide content and sintering temperature on microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated. The results show at the same sintering temperature, with the increase of yttrium oxide content, the relative density of the sintered alloy decreases and the strength increases. For Fe–2wt%Y_(2)O_(3)alloy, as the sintering temperature increases gradually, the compressive strength decreases, while the strain-to-failure increases. The Fe–2wt%Y_(2)O_(3)alloy with 15.5 nm Y_(2)O_(3)particles uniformly distributed into the 147.5 nm iron grain interior sintered at 650℃ presents a high ultimate compressive strength of 1.86 GPa and large strain-to-failure of 29%. The grain boundary strengthening and intragranular second-phase particle dispersion strengthening are the main dominant mechanisms to enhance the mechanical properties of the alloy.展开更多

The main textures in hot-extruded specimen were Brass {011} 〈211〉 and Cube {100} 〈100〉. Textures of Brass {011} 〈211〉 and Goss {011} 〈100〉 were observed in specimen after deformation at room temperature; while textures of Brass {011} 〈211〉, Goss {011} 〈100〉 and S {123} 〈634〉 were detected after deformation at cryogenic temperature. It is believed that the additional Al2O3 nanoparticles can result in dislocation pinning effect, which can further lead to the suppression of dislocations cross-slip. While in the specimen deformed at cryogenic temperature, both pinning effect and cryogenic temperature are responsible for the formation of Brass, Goss and S textures.展开更多

Based on the actual size of an ancient building, a wooden frame model with a scale of 1 : 8 of the prototype structure is built considering the swallow-tail type of tenon-mortise connections. Low cyclic reversed loading tests are carried out including three groups of unstrengthened structures and two groups of structures strengthened with CFRP. Based on experimental data, moment-rotation angle hysteretic curves and skeleton curves for each joint are obtained. The energy dissipation capability, stiffness degradation and deformation performance of the joints before and after being strengthened are also analyzed. Results show that after being strengthened with CFRP, the tenon value pulled out of the mortise is reduced; the bending strength and the energy dissipation capabilities of the joint are enhanced; stiffness degradation of the joint is not obvious; and the deformation performance of the joint remains good. Thus, the CFRP has good effects on strengthening the tenon-mortise joints of Chinese ancient buildings.展开更多

The main results obtained from the tests are: the width of the crack decreases 50. 2% to 66%, and the development of the crack is limited; the stress of steel decreases 24. 1% to 28. 2%, and the stiffness increases 14.9% to 16. 1% after being strengthened. Based on the technical specification for strengthening concrete structures with CFRP and the conclusions from the tests, a calculating scheme of the flexure stiffness is given, which can be used for reference in engineering design. Finally, some suggestions are given for design in fatigue strengthening.展开更多

The influences of the corrosion rate on crack pattern, failure mechanism, ultimate strength, ductility and deformation capacity are also analyzed. Modeling results show that the beams with low corrosion rates fail by the crushing of the concrete in the compression zone. For the beams with medium corrosion rates, the bond slip between the concrete and the longitudinal reinforcement occurs after steel yielding, and the beams finally fail by the debonding of the FRP plates. For the beams with high corrosion rates, the bond slip occurs before steel yielding, and the beams finally fail by the crushing of the concrete in the compression zone. The higher the corrosion rates of the longitudinal reinforcement, the more the carrying capacity of FRP strengthened RC beams reduces. The carrying capacity of RCB-1 (the corrosion rate is 0) is 115 kN, and the carrying capacity of RCB-7 (the corrosion rate is 20% ) is 42 kN. The deformation capacity of FRP strengthened corroded RC beams is higher than that of FRP strengthened uucorroded RC beams. The ultimate deflection of RCB-1 and RCB-7 are 20 mm and 35 nun, respectively, and the ultimate deflection of RCB-5 (the corrosion rate is 10% ) reaches 60 ilUn.展开更多

Inrecent years, machine learning (ML) has emerged as a promising tool to dealwith the complex interrelation betweencomposition, properties, and process parameters to facilitate accelerated discovery and development of new alloysand functionalities. In this study, we adopt an ML-based approach, coupled with genetic algorithm (GA) principles,to design novel copper alloys for achieving seemingly contradictory targets of high strength and high electricalconductivity. Initially, we establish a correlation between the alloy composition (binary to multi-component) andthe target properties, namely, electrical conductivity and mechanical strength. Catboost, an ML model coupledwith GA, was used for this task. The accuracy of the model was above 93.5%. Next, for obtaining the optimizedcompositions the outputs fromthe initial model were refined by combining the concepts of data augmentation andPareto front. Finally, the ultimate objective of predicting the target composition that would deliver the desired rangeof properties was achieved by developing an advancedMLmodel through data segregation and data augmentation. To examine the reliability of this model, results were rigorously compared and verified using several independentdata reported in the literature. This comparison substantiates that the results predicted by our model regarding thevariation of conductivity and evolution ofmicrostructure and mechanical properties with composition are in goodagreement with the reports published in the literature.展开更多

文摘How to increase strength without sacrificing ductility has been developed as a key goal in the manufacture of high-performance metals or alloys. The grain boundary strengthening and intragranular second-phase particle dispersion strengthening are the main dominant mechanisms to enhance the mechanical properties of the alloy.

文摘Microstructure and texture evolution of Cu-0.23%Al2O3 dispersion strengthened copper alloy, deformed at room temperature or cryogenic temperature, were investigated. While in the specimen deformed at cryogenic temperature, both pinning effect and cryogenic temperature are responsible for the formation of Brass, Goss and S textures.

文摘In order to well protect Chinese ancient buildings, aseismic behaviors of Chinese ancient tenon-mortise joints strengthened by carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) are studied by experiments. Thus, the CFRP has good effects on strengthening the tenon-mortise joints of Chinese ancient buildings.

文摘In order to study the fatigue behavior of the damaged reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate, three T-shaped beams strengthened by CFRP and one contrasting beam are tested under fatigue loading, with the parameters of different modes of strengthening and different fatigue load levels considered. Finally, some suggestions are given for design in fatigue strengthening.

文摘The flexural behavior of eight FRP ( fiber reinforced polymer) strengthened RC (reinforced concrete) beams with different steel corrosion rates are numerically studied by Ansys finite element software. The ultimate deflection of RCB-1 and RCB-7 are 20 mm and 35 nun, respectively, and the ultimate deflection of RCB-5 (the corrosion rate is 10% ) reaches 60 ilUn.

文摘With the increasing attention received by lightweight metals, numerous essential fields have increased requirements for mag-nesium(Mg)alloys with good room-temperature and high-temperature mechanical properties. However, the high-temperature mechanic-al properties of commonly used commercial Mg alloys, such as AZ91D,deteriorate considerably with increasing temperatures.Over the past several decades, extensive efforts have been devoted to developing heat-resistant Mg alloys. These approaches either inhibit the gen-eration of thermally unstable phases or promote the formation of thermally stable precipitates/phases in matrices through solid solution or precipitation strengthening. In this review, numerous studies are systematically introduced and discussed.Different alloy systems,includ-ing those based on Mg–Al,Mg–Zn,and Mg–rare earth, are carefully classified and compared to reveal their mechanical properties and strengthening mechanisms. The emphasis, limitations, and future prospects of these heat-resistant Mg alloys are also pointed out and dis-cussed to develop heat-resistant Mg alloys and broaden their potential application areas in the future.
文摘Magnesium(Mg)alloys are gaining great consideration as body implant materials due to their high biodegradability and biocompatibility. However, they suffer from low corrosion resistance and antibacterial activity. In this research,semi-powder metallurgy followed by hot extrusion was utilized to produce the magnesium oxide@graphene nanosheets/magnesium(MgO@GNS/Mg)composite to improve mechanical, corrosion and cytocompatibility characteristics.Investigations have revealed that the incorporation of MgO@GNS nanohybrids into Mg-based composite enhanced microhardness and compressive strength. In vitro, osteoblast cell culture tests show that using MgO@GNS nanohybrid fillers enhances osteoblast adhesion and apatite mineralization. The presence of MgO@GNS nanoparticles in the composites decreased the opening defects,micro-cracks and micro-pores of the composites thus preventing the penetration of the corrosive solution into the matrix.Studies demonstrated that the MgO@GNS/Mg composite possesses excellent antibacterial properties because of the combination of the release of MgO and physical damage to bacterium membranes caused by the sharp edges of graphene nanosheets that can effectively damage the cell wall thereby facilitating penetration into the bacterial lipid bilayer. Therefore, the MgO@GNS/Mg composite with high mechanical strength, antibacterial activity and corrosion resistance is considered to be a promising material for load-bearing implant applications.

文摘Pillar is closely related to the stability and reliability of underground spaces in closed/abandoned mines. The present research introduced a new technique to strengthen square cement mortar columns via fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)strips to verify the strengthening effect of FRP on pillars.Compared to a fully wrapped FRP jacket, the advantages of FRP strip are cost-effective and easy-to-construct.A series of compression tests as well as theoretical analysis were carried out to explore the mechanical behavior of square cement mortar specimens partially strengthened with FRP strips. The results verified the effectiveness of FRP strips in enhancing the stress and strain of cement mortar.Different from unconfined cement mortar specimens, these FRP-strengthened cement mortar specimens are featured with the double-peaked behaviors, mainly attributed to the stress state transformation from a one-dimensional to a three-dimensional stress state. It also indicated that the enhancement of stress increased with the FRP strip width. Moreover, the brittle-ductile transition ductile failure characteristics were also observed in FRP-confined cement mortar specimens. The ultimate ductility of the cement mortar specimen decreases gradually with the growth of the FRP strip width. The main contribution of this research is to enrich the strengthening techniques for residual pillars.

文摘AlCrCuFeMnx(x=0,0.5,1,1.5,and 2)high-entropy alloys were prepared using the vacuum arc melting technology. The microstructure and mechanical properties of AlCrCuFeMnxwere analyzed and tested by XRD,SEM,TEM,nanoindentation, and electronic universal testing. The results indicate that the AlCrCuFeMnxhigh-entropy alloy exhibits a dendritic structure, consisting of dendrites with a BCC structure, interdendrite regions with an FCC structure, and precipitates with an ordered BCC structure that form within the dendrite.Manganese(Mn)has a strong affinity for dendritic, interdendritic, and precipitate structures, allowing it to easily enter these areas. With an increase in Mn content, the size of the precipitated nanoparticles in the dendritic region initially increases and then decreases.Similarly, the area fraction initially decreases and then increases.Additionally, the alloy’s strength and wear resistance decrease, while its plasticity increases. The Al Cr Cu Fe Mn1.5alloy boasts excellent mechanical properties, including a hardness of 360 HV and a wear rate of 2.4×10^(-5)mm^(3)·N^(-1)·mm^(-1).It also exhibits impressive yield strength, compressive strength, and deformation rates of 960 MPa,1,700 MPa,and 27.5%,respectively.
文摘Metallic alloys for a given application are usually designed to achieve the desired properties by devising experimentsbased on experience, thermodynamic and kinetic principles, and various modeling and simulation exercises. However, the influence of process parameters and material properties is often non-linear and non-colligative. This comparison substantiates that the results predicted by our model regarding thevariation of conductivity and evolution ofmicrostructure and mechanical properties with composition are in goodagreement with the reports published in the literature.

文摘Heterostructured metals and alloys are a new class of materials in which mechanical behaviors between the heterogeneous regions are significantly different, and the mechanical properties of bulk materials are superior to the superposition of individual regions. In this paper, three distinct types of heterostructures were constructed in Mg-2.77Y(wt.%)alloy by applying simple thermomechanical processing.Namely,Type I:the non-recrystallized grains of several tens of microns were embedded in the micron-scaled recrystallized grains that were distributed along shear bands and dispersed near grain boundaries;Type II:the aggregations of micron-scaled recrystallized grains were surrounded by the non-recrystallized grains;Type II:the micron-scaled recrystallized grains dominated the microstructure, and the non-recrystallized regions with diameters of tens of micrometers were surrounded by those fine recrystallized grains.Mechanical tests showed that the material with type III heterostructure had the optimal combination of yield strength and uniform elongation. This is attributed to its remarkable hetero-deformation induced(HDI)strengthening and dislocation strengthening. At the initial stage of plastic deformation(engineering strain below 4%),the rapid accumulation of geometrically necessary dislocations(GNDs)at the interfaces between recrystallized and non-recrystallized regions and between neighboring recrystallized grains lead to the significant HDI strengthening. As deformation proceeded, the HDI strengthening effect gradually decreased, and the traditional dislocation strengthening that was caused by GNDs accumulation at grain boundaries became significant.In-situ electron back-scattered diffraction(EBSD)testing revealed that the non-basal slip in the non-recrystallized regions became more remarkable in the late stage of deformation, which improved ductility and strain hardening of the alloy. These findings provide new insight into the design of high-performance hexagonal close-packed structural materials by using the concept of HDI strengthening.

文摘The creep strain of conventionally treated 2195 alloy is very low, increasing the difficulty of manufacturing Al-Cu-Li alloy sheet parts by creep age forming. Therefore, finding a solution to improve the creep formability of Al-Cu-Li alloy is vital.A thorough comparison of the effects of cryo-deformation and ambient temperature large pre-deformation(LPD)on the creep ageing response in the 2195 alloy sheet at 160℃with different stresses has been made. The evolution of dislocations and precipitates during creep ageing of LPD alloys are revealed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.High-quality 2195 alloy sheet largely pre-deformed by 80%without edge-cracking is obtained by cryo-rolling at liquid nitrogen temperature, while severe edge-cracking occurs during room temperature rolling. The creep formability and strength of the 2195 alloy are both enhanced by introducing pre-existing dislocations with a density over 1.4×10^(15)m^(−2).At 160℃and 150 MPa,creep strain and creep-aged strength generally increases by 4−6 times and 30−50 MPa in the LPD sample, respectively, compared to conventional T3 alloy counterpart. The elongation of creep-aged LPD sample is low but remains relevant for application. The high-density dislocations, though existing in the form of dislocation tangles, promote the formation of refined T1 precipitates with a uniform dispersion.

文摘Wire-arc additive manufacture(WAAM)has great potential for manufacturing of Al-Cu components. However, inferior mechanical properties of WAAM deposited material restrict its industrial application.Inter-layer cold rolling and thermo-mechanical heat treatment(T8)with pre-stretching deformation between solution and aging treatment were adopted in this study.Their effects on hardness, mechanical properties and microstructure were analyzed and compared to the conventional heat treatment(T6).The results show that cold rolling increases the hardness and strengths, which further increase with T8 treatment. The ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of 513 MPa and yield stress(YS)of 413 MPa can be obtained in the inter-layer cold-rolled sample with T8 treatment, which is much higher than that in the as-deposited samples. The cold-rolled samples show higher elongation than that of as-deposited ones due to significant elimination of porosity in cold rolling;while both the T6 and T8 treatments decrease the elongation. The cold rolling and pre-stretching deformation both contribute to the formation of dense and dispersive precipitatedθ′phases, which inhibits the dislocation movement and enhances the strengths;as a result,T8 treatment shows better strengthening effect than the T6 treatment. The strengthening mechanism was analyzed and it was mainly related to work hardening and precipitation strengthening.

文摘This article reviews the anti-penetration principles and strengthening mechanisms of metal materials, ranging from macroscopic failure modes to microscopic structural characteristics, and further summarizes the micro-macro correlation in the anti-penetration process. Finally,it outlines the constitutive models and numerical simulation studies utilized in the field of impact and penetration. From the macro perspective, nine frequent penetration failure modes of metal materials are summarized, with a focus on the analysis of the cratering, compression shear, penetration, and plugging stages of the penetration process. The reasons for the formation of adiabatic shear bands(ASBs)in metal materials with different crystal structures are elaborated, and the formation mechanism of the equiaxed grains in the ASB is explored. Both the strength and the toughness of metal materials are related to the materials’crystal structures and microstructures. The toughness is mainly influenced by the deformation mechanism, while the strength is explained by the strengthening mechanism. Therefore, the mechanical properties of metal materials depend on their microstructures, which are subject to the manufacturing process and material composition.Regarding numerical simulation, the advantages and disadvantages of different constitutive models and simulation methods are summarized based on the application characteristics of metal materials in high-speed penetration practice. In summary, this article provides a systematic overview of the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of metal materials, along with their mechanisms and correlation during the anti-penetration and impact-resistance processes, thereby making an important contribution to the scientific understanding of anti-penetration performance and its optimization in metal materials.

文摘The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of a T8-aged Al-Cu-Li alloy with increased pre-deformation(0-15%) were investigated, revealing the microstructure-strength relationship and the intrinsic strengthening mechanism. The results show that increasing the pre-deformation levels remarkably improves the strength of the alloy but deteriorates its ductility.Dislocations introduced by pre-deformation effectively suppress the formation of Guinier-Preston(GP) zones and provide more nucleation sites for T1 precipitates. This leads to more intensive and finer T1 precipitates in the samples with higher pre-deformation levels.Simultaneously, the enhanced precipitation of T1 precipitates and inhibited formation of GP zones cause the decreases in number and sizes of θ′ precipitates. The quantitative descriptions of the strength contributions from different strengthening mechanisms reveal that strengthening contributions from T1 and θ′ precipitates decrease with increasing pre-deformation.The reduced diameters of T1 precipitates are primarily responsible for their weakened strengthening effects. Therefore, the improved strength of the T8-aged Al-Cu-Li alloy is mainly attributed to the stronger strain hardening from the increased pre-deformation levels.
