The impact of “Big Five” on physical health is here explored for older Europeans with a focus on examining age groups differences. The study sample included 378,500 respondents derived from the seventh data wave of Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). The physical health status of older Europeans was estimated by constructing an index considering the combined effect of well-established health indicators such as the number of chronic diseases, mobility limitations, limitations with basic and instrumental activities of daily living, and self-perceived health. This index was used for an overall physical health assessment, for which the higher the score for an individual, the worst health level. Then, through a dichotomization process applied to the retrieved Principal Component Analysis scores, a two-group discrimination (good or bad health status) of SHARE participants was obtained as regards their physical health condition, allowing for further con-structing logistic regression models to assess the predictive significance of “Big Five” and their protective role for physical health. Results showed that neuroti-cism was the most significant predictor of physical health for all age groups un-der consideration, while extraversion, agreeableness and openness were not found to significantly affect the self-reported physical health levels of midlife adults aged 50 up to 64. Older adults aged 65 up to 79 were more prone to open-ness, whereas the oldest old individuals aged 80 up to 105 were mainly affected by openness and conscientiousness. .展开更多

Methods: Participants in this study included 16 teachers and 229 students of grades 3 - 6 at a large elementary school in the Western United States. Participating students were surveyed before and after a six-week intervention conducted by classroom teachers that consisted of a weekly displaying of Teacher Goal Boards in a prominent classroom location and sharing of goals set for the week. Teacher reports of the previous week’s goals occurred each Monday prior to sharing and posting of new goals for the new week. Results: Respondents reported significantly higher post-test values for over half of pre-post comparisons. Respondents were more likely to intend to be physically active (post = 52.6% vs. pre = 39.0%, p = 0.003), to eat nutritious foods (52.0% vs. 36.4%, p = 0.001), and to maintain a healthy body weight (62.8% vs. 52.2%, p = 0.022). Similar results were found for summary measures. Intention to be physically active, to eat healthy, to maintain a healthy weight, as well as descriptive norms for physical activity and perception and value of personal health behaviors were all significantly higher at post-test. Discussion: This study and its findings are significant because teacher participants were able to significantly and positively impact on students’ behavioral intent, subjective norms, and perception and value of personal health behaviors amongst students without spending additional time on formal health promotion and education instruction. Conclusion: Schools should incentivize and encourage faculty and staff to engage in a variety of health behaviors to improve both personal health outcomes and role model health behaviors for students.展开更多

Purposes: To estimate the reference values and predictive equations for frequently used clinical field HRPF measures in a sample of Saudi female college students aged 18 - 24 years. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, body fat percentage (BF %) was estimated. Curl-up test (CUT) and sit and reach test (SRT) were applied in 216 students. The Queen’s College Step Test (QCST) was used to predict maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). Physical activity (PA) level was also measured using International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results: The mean of BF %, SRT, CUT, and predicted VO2 max were 23.98% ± 6.13%, 17.10 ± 7.50 cm, 28.17 ± 7.72 number/min, and 39.58 ± 4.01 ml/kg/min respectively. There was no significant effect of age on all HRPF measures except for BF % (F (6,215) = 3.25, p (6,215) = 4.01, p strated that BMI was the predictor for BF % and SRT and explained 65% and 4% of total variance respectively. IPAQ score, age, and height were the predictors of CUT counting 17% of total variance. While, BMI and IPAQ score were the predictors for VO2 max and explained 13% of the total variance. Conclusion: Reference values can be used clinically in the evaluation of HRPF, in the rehabilitation process as well as in designing a program to improve the HRPF for female college students with consideration of age, height, BMI, and PA level for a particular population.展开更多

The cognition of these students and teachers on physical health, how to allocate the spare time, how to look upon the relationship between physical exercise and learning, and the physical exercises involved by the students, the grounds for the exercises, the frequency of taking physical exercises, the forms of physical exercises, and the attitude toward physical exercises were investigated and analyzed using questionnaire survey, literature materials, interview, and mathematical statistics research methods. The results showed that most students were very concerned about their own health and willing to build up their body by taking physical exercises and activities, aiming to promote the life and learning quality and physical health; the physical exercise activities involved by the middle school students were various and chosen by students differently. However, some students did not have enough time to take part in physical exercises because of the effect of the factors such as the network. Therefore, the physical health of some students was worrying. The role of school physical education was not fully played. Some schools gave top priority to the enrollment rate, so that P.E. courses were not offered enough, the contents were boring, the class hours of P.E. courses were occupied by literal arts courses, games were limited, and extracurricular team activities were few. Middle school students' awareness of physical exercises was not enough; the physical education system from schools was not well- improved; the physical educational plan was unreasonable, so that the students' awareness of physical exercises was not cultivated well.展开更多

However, relatively few systematic reviews of the scientific evidence for their health benefits, especially for older Chinese adults, have been undertaken.Evidence acquisition: Between January and March 2016, a systematic search was conducted using the CNKI and Pub Med databases to identify studies published between 2000 and 2015. Studies were selected for review if they were designed specifically to evaluate the health benefits of traditional Chinese sports and PAs in adults aged 50 years and older in the Mainland of China. The studies included observational, uncontrolled, and randomized and controlled designs. Papers published without an English title or abstract were excluded.Evidence synthesis: The initial search identified a total of 229 studies. After removing duplicates and studies that did not meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 95 studies were selected for review. Special attention was given to studies of the most commonly practiced activities: Tai Ji Quan,Qigong, and Yangko exercises. A positive association between these types of exercise and health benefits was noted for healthy older adults and those with chronic diseases. Evidence on other types of activities was less clear due to the limited number of studies conducted. Conclusion: There is promising evidence that traditional Chinese sports and PAs provide many health benefits for older Chinese adults. While additional scientifically rigorous research is warranted, promoting these traditional and culturally-based sports and PAs as forms of behavioral medicine in primary and secondary prevention of diseases among the aging Chinese population will help fulfill an urgent public health need.展开更多

Based on the method of cluster analysis (CA) for water quality indices, it revealed that heavily polluted sites of Liao River are located at estuary and mainstream. The aquatic species surveyed were attached algae and benthic invertebrates. The result showed that the diversity and biomass of attached algae and benthic index of biotic integrity (B-IBI) were degrading as the chemical and physical quality of water bodies deteriorating. Physiochemical parameters, BODs, CODcr, TN, TP, NH3-N, DO, petroleum hydrocarbon and conductivity, were statistically analyzed with principal component analysis and correlation analysis. The statistical results were incorporated into the integrated assessing water quality index, combining fecal coliform count, attached algae diversity, B-IBI and physical habitat quality score. A comprehensive integrated assessing system of fiver ecological health was established. Based on the systimetic assessment, the assessed sites are categorized into 9 "healthy" and "sub-healthy" sites and 8 "sub-sick" and "sick" sites.展开更多

Conclusion: Schools should incentivize and encourage faculty and staff to engage in a variety of health behaviors to improve both personal health outcomes and role model health behaviors for students.
文摘Health related-physical fitness (HRPF) is critical for maintaining and enhancing health and quality of life. Conclusion: Reference values can be used clinically in the evaluation of HRPF, in the rehabilitation process as well as in designing a program to improve the HRPF for female college students with consideration of age, height, BMI, and PA level for a particular population.

文摘To know well the current situation of the physical health promotion plan implementation in Jinan' s middle school students, 240 students and 30 P.E. teachers in Jinan' s Shungeng Middle School, Yuying Middle School, Yuxian Middle School, Qixian Middle School, and Shi Liu Li He Middle School were chosen as the research objects. Middle school students' awareness of physical exercises was not enough; the physical education system from schools was not well- improved; the physical educational plan was unreasonable, so that the students' awareness of physical exercises was not cultivated well.
文摘Tai chi chuan as a compulsory course of college sports elective courses, having a strong sense of Chinese traditional culture, is one kind of boxing which is most affected by Chinese traditional philosophy. In addition to having offensive and defensive skills, it also absorbs the Chinese classical philosophy, traditional Chinese meridian theory and theory of health keeping. Cultural connotation of Tai chi chuan helps harmonious campus culture and mental health education. After years of research, the theory and practice shows that : health effects of tai chi chuan on college students have positive significance, including the physical health and mental health.
文摘This study based on documents and materials, interview, experiment and data statistical analysis, as well as by the means of "Health Qigong.WuQinxi", and carries on a 4-month exercise intervention aiming at the university students, furthermore to have a comparison of their level scores on physical shape, physiological indicator, before and after the experiment. And we come to a conclusion through this 4-month exercise, when concerns to physical shape and physiological indicator: we can see a significant difference on WHR body mass index and vital capacity (p≤ 0.01); as well as waist circumference, pulse, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, sit and reach, grip strength (p ≤ 0.05). So we note that long-term "Health Qignng .WuQinxi" practice can improve the physical health of the university students, and assess the students who failed to meet health standards physically, and fmally realize our hope promoting the comprehensive development of university students.
文摘Under an environment full of competitive stress, students tend to form negative emotions, and the time for them to engage in physical exercise is greatly limited due to overwhelming academic tasks. Therefore,in this paper,we focus on acknowledging the purpose of physical exercise, and how physical exercise affects the mental health of students under stressful circumstances but not in the context of leisure.Questionnaire was distributed to participants with an average age of 20,to investigate their preference, frequency, and reason for exercising, and their attitude towards it.Our results showed that participants think that exercise can strengthen the body, relieve stress, improve fitness and interpersonal relationship regardless of their purpose such as interests, emotional necessity and even out of non-subjective ideas. In conclusion, physical exercise helped to improve students’mental health especially under great pressure and ultimately,it will enhance their academics and bring about the unity of mind and body.
文摘The“shift system”teaching model of physical education is an emerging education model that aims to improve students’independent choice and personalized development. However, there are also some challenges in the practical application of this model. For example, there are mental health issues for some students including difficulty in adaptation, social interaction, high psychological pressure, etc.Based on this, this article analyzes the impact of the“shift system”teaching model of physical education on students’mental health and explores the optimization path of the physical education“shift system”teaching model in order to promote students’mental health and all-round development.

文摘Background: Traditional Chinese sports and physical activities(PAs) have a long history and are practiced by millions of Chinese. While additional scientifically rigorous research is warranted, promoting these traditional and culturally-based sports and PAs as forms of behavioral medicine in primary and secondary prevention of diseases among the aging Chinese population will help fulfill an urgent public health need.

文摘The health conditions of Liao River were assessed using 25 sampling sites in April 2005, with water quality index, biotic index and physical habitat quality index. Based on the systimetic assessment, the assessed sites are categorized into 9 "healthy" and "sub-healthy" sites and 8 "sub-sick" and "sick" sites.
