The researche...The previous studies show that the major problems faced by the students in writing can be classified into two categories, that is, they don't know"what to write"and"how to write". The researchers found that the specific problems existing in their writings are identified as poor content, incomplete generic structure and misuse of cohesive devices. Therefore, on the basis of the previous studies, this study attempts to use Martin's genre theory to resolve the existed problems of the Professional College English major's students in writing and enhance students' discourse writing ability. Meanwhile, this study tries to answer the following questions:(1) Compared with the traditional writing teaching methods, whether the genre-based writing method has a significant effect to improve students' writing skills;(2) Whether the genre-based writing method is possible to increase students' interest in writing. In order to explore whether smartphone addiction has an impact on students' learning, this study examined the relationships between smartphone addiction and student engagement and academic performance among 157 English majors by One-way ANOVA. Results suggested that there was not any significant difference in student engagement and academic performance among students of different levels of smartphone addiction. With Daly,Horwitz and Y-S-Cheng's theoretical model of second language writing anxiety as research framework,this thesis surveyed English majors'English writing anxiety.Findings of the present study show that ...With Daly,Horwitz and Y-S-Cheng's theoretical model of second language writing anxiety as research framework,this thesis surveyed English majors'English writing anxiety.Findings of the present study show that all of the English major stu dents experience English writing anxiety.There is no significant difference in English anxiety among students from three different grades.There is significant difference in English writing anxiety between the students who hold positive attitudes towards English writing and those who hold negative attitudes towards English writing and there is significant difference in English writing anxi ety among students who rated their English writing good,average and bad.Results from the qualitative study show the reasons why there is little difference in English writing anxiety among students from three different grades.What's more,it is shown that the poor writing skills,cognitive anxiety,test anxiety and erroneous beliefs toward English writing are the main sources of Eng lish writing anxiety.展开更多

By adopting quantitative analysis,based on the statements for oral scale of CSE(China Standards of English)level five,this paper investigated the current status,common difficulties and control factors on oral English ...By adopting quantitative analysis,based on the statements for oral scale of CSE(China Standards of English)level five,this paper investigated the current status,common difficulties and control factors on oral English competency of nonEnglish majors in second-tier universities,which was conducted using questionnaires that includes six dimensions of language expression:accuracy,complexity,coherence,fluency,appropriateness,and flexibility.The results showed that:(i)the overall oral English competency of college non-English majors hasn't met the statements of CSE level five;(ii)female students significantly outperformed male students,and business majors students significantly outperformed those in liberal arts majors who were significantly better than those in science majors;(iii)there was no significant difference between grades;(iv)the flexibility,coherence and accuracy of language expression almost reached the standard grade,but the common core difficulties faced by the students were mainly in pronunciation,scope oflanguage expression,fluency and appropriateness.Unclear goals,less practice and poor vocabulary were major impact factors.The research is helpful for strengthening students?knowledge on their own oral English competency as well as adjusting their oral practice objectives,thereby shedding light on students5 actual oral English proficiency and helping to clarify and refine the teaching objectives of speaking and promote the effective practice of oral English as well as the rational application of CSE.展开更多
