The project delves into the preliminary findings of a survey of both trainers and students on the practice of using student peer feedback in interpreting practice. It first explains the theoretical foundation which justifies the use of peer feedback in interpreting practice, the research methodology and data collection. Then it brings forth specific findings concerning the implementation of peer feedback in the interpreting class followed by discussions of the role and features of student peer feedback as a means to help students ready for the booth.Analysis of the results shows that peer feedback in interpreting practice keeps students on-task,attentive and help them spot their own problems.Trainers and students themselves point to similar features of student peer feedback as focusing on comprehension of the original, word choice and numbers. The preliminary findings of the survey demonstrate the roles and features of student peer feedback in interpreting practice and point to the possible way of enhancing student’s learning curve through more effective peer feedback. 展开更多

Considering the primary focus of corrective feedback literature on verbal-correction provided by teachers and lack of attention to the role of other forms of corrective feedback in FL (foreign language) classroom interaction, this paper demonstrates how essential teachers' non-verbal communication and stance display are in making students' errors noticeable for them by providing samples from videotaped data. The findings in this study provide insights into the use of non-verbal behavior in providing students with corrective feedback. This study shows that research dealing only with verbal corrections provided by FL teachers cannot fully define the classroom interaction in terms of teachers' use of error correction techniques and student notification and uptake. 展开更多

Background:The occurrence of mental health symptoms is higher in individuals aged between 18 and 24 years than in other age groups.Mental health literacy is derived from health literacy, and focuses on the knowledge, attitudes, and competencies that individuals need to acquire to manage their own health effectively.Low mental health literacy is associated with poorer mental health.Grit is also a known protective factor against mental disorders.Despite a heightened focus on mental health literacy and grit as important factors for decreasing mental health symptoms, knowledge of the effect of mental health literacy and grit on mental health symptoms is very limited. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between mental health literacy and psychological symptoms and the mediating effect of grit on these relationships. Methods:This cross-sectional descriptive study used survey data from 178 university students in Korea.Data were collected between March and May 2022.The SPSS PROCESS macro(Model 4)was used to analyze the data. Results:Mental health literacy was not directly associated with psychological symptoms. However,an indirect pathway was observed between mental health literacy, depression, and anxiety, through grit. Conclusion:Mental health literacy affects psychological symptoms through grit. Therefore,to improve the mental health of university students,it is necessary to develop programs that increase mental health literacy and grit. 展开更多

Mental health literacy(MHL)refers to knowledge and attitudes that shape the recognition, management, and prevention of mental disorders. While the topic has been exhaustively researched in Western countries, research from Southeast Asia still is limited.Previous studies in this field showed a moderate recognition of mental disorders,a high prevalence of stigmatizing attitudes and a low willingness to seek professional help among Southeastern-Asian populations. This study explored the level of MHL among university students from different parts of Vietnam and Cambodia.Correlations with influencing factors(gender, age, study year, educational attainment of the parents,urban/rural origin, ethnicity, personal experiences with mental disorders)were also explored. An online survey, using a 30-item Vietnamese version of the Mental Health Literacy Scale(MHLS),was conducted at six university sites in Vietnam and Cambodia.Data of 1032 students from different study branches were included. The MHL of Vietnamese and Cambodian university students was lower, compared to samples from Australia or the UK.Females and students with a personal experience of mental disorders(self or family)showed a significantly higher MHL.No differences in MHL were found between students from different socioeconomic backgrounds(professional attainment of parents,urban/rural origin).Findings on the influence of ethnicity were inconclusive.MHL needs to be improved among the university students of Vietnam and Cambodia.Mental health promotion should specifically target male students, students from STEM branches, and international students. 展开更多

Mental illness stigma is a social construct which involves labelling individuals with mental illness which in turn discredits and results in the loss of dignity of the individual,as well as causing the individual concerned to experience discrimination, marginalization, and isolation.Mental illness stigma can be influenced by various factors.Factors that can affect mental illness stigma are collectivist culture and mental health literacy. This study used quantitative methods with the aim to investigate the role of collectivist culture and mental health literacy in mental illness stigma. The subjects in this study were 160 undergraduate students at tertiary institutions in Indonesia. The instruments used in this study were the mental illness stigma scale, collectivist culture scale, and mental health literacy scale. The data analysis technique used in this study is multiple regression. The results of multiple regression tests showed a regression coefficient value of 0.239 and a coefficient of determination value of 0.057.The significance value of mental health literacy is 0.022(p<0.05)with a standardized beta coefficient of-0.189 and the significance value of collectivist culture is 0.232(p>0.05)with a standardized beta coefficient value of-0.098.These results indicate that both collectivist culture and mental health literacy simultaneously play a role in reducing the mental illness stigma of university students in Indonesia.Mental health literacy has a significant role in reducing mental illness stigma among university students in Indonesia, whereas collectivist culture does not have a significant role in reducing mental illness stigma. 展开更多

The improvement of students’abilities is of great significance to discover the relevant scientific problems in daily life,to analyze and solve practical problems,to trigger scientific inspiration, and to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.Taken the course entitled Built Environment(BE)as an example, this study introduces five lecture cases combining with engineering practices, and examines the evaluation of teaching and learning effect on student outcomes. The cases consider various problems to be solved urgently in an actual project, and evaluate the student outcomes by statistically analyzing the questionnaires. Most of the students actively participate in five cases and cheerfully share their achievements.More than 85%of students are satisfied with the engineering practice and the learning proposal, and convey a little or even significantly change in their understanding of the employment prospects. 展开更多

The employment problem of graduates has become a common problem faced by colleges and universities in the era of postpopularization of higher education. There are many factors that make it difficult for graduates to find jobs, such as the huge number of employees, the quality of graduates, the development of real economy, and the concept of graduates' choosing jobs, but the fundamental reason is the imbalance between supply and demand of talents. It is an important way for colleges and universities to promote full employment of graduates by establishing a feedback mechanism to track the employment of graduates, grasping the changes of poor talents and adjusting the process of talent training accordingly. The provision of feedback on student work has been a common and even recommended practice across levels of education throughout the years. In the field of academic writing pedagogy, giving feedback has become a crucial part of the teaching/learning process given that composition skills are quite intricate and difficult to master, requiring a cycle of continual drafting, feedback and re-drafting until a final version is produced.Teacher feedback appears to be the most utilized in current classrooms, with peer feedback beginning to be applied in many disciplines as well in recent times.Nevertheless,it appears that most research studies on the uses and the benefits of teacher and peer feedback focus on undergraduate students with graduate students’voices less contemplated in this regard.Considering this potential research gap as well as the fact that doctoral students are often more skilled and competent writers, this study analyses these students’attitudes and views toward the need of teacher and peer feedback in a research writing in English course delivered in a Finnish university with a mix of international and local students. The results seem to indicate that both types of feedback, but specifically a combination of both, were well-accepted and highly-regarded by these students, particularly as far as reader-friendliness is concerned. 展开更多
