A Comparison of Libyan and Australian Students＇ Perceptions of Empowerment in Accounting Courses

The concept of empowerment was introduced into the accounting education research by Zraa, Imran, Kavanagh, and Morgan （2011）. The authors＇ purpose is to compare Libyan and Australian students＇ perceptions of empowerment in accounting courses and to investigate their relationships with classroom instruction. This study involves a survey of 409 students, who are studying the first-year business degree at institutions in Libya and Australia. Observations and interviews are also conducted. Data are analyzed using reliability tests, factor analysis, t-tests, and correlations. The results indicate that Australian students are more empowered than Libyan students. In addition, the result reveals that classroom instruction methods influence students＇ empowerment.

Open Approach-Based Subject Matter： A New Aspect of Mathematical Activity Fostering Students＇ Creativity

This study compares the subject matter appeared on traditional Thai textbooks and Japanese textbooks and analyzes how extension and integration sequence on Japanese textbooks evokes students＇ mathematical creativity. The data were collected from the series of four lessons in the fifth grade by teaching experiment methodology conducted following the professional development project implemented lesson study and open approach in Thailand. The results show that extension and integration sequence is an appropriate subject matter to generate lesson for problem-solving classroom. The sequence of lesson leads students to excitement, curiosity, confidence and intimacy in mathematics that are powerful effects of mathematical creativity. Students can produce the different and various ways to solve problems that indicate their divergent thinking.

The change of Chinese students＇ cultural patterns and its roots in the process of globalization

One of the most important characteristics of culture is that it is subject to change. The theory of cultural patterns in intercultural communication is used to study the change of Chinese students＇ living pattern, communication pattern and thinking pattern because of globalization. The factors and reasons of both change and the unchanged are analyzed and summarized.

Application of the Method of Students＇ Presentations in Foreign Language Teaching

This paper presents the results of the research conducted at the English language course of the students of Polytechnic of Medimurje in Cakovec, Croatia. The purpose of the research was to introduce the method of students＇ presentations in foreign language teaching, as well as the topics related to the culture and civilization of the English-speaking countries. After the introductory lectures on how the presentation on the given topic in the English language should be prepared, and after the presentations were delivered by the students during one semester, the results of the questionnaires which the students had to solve at the beginning and the end of the semester, were compared. The goal of the research was to examine the extent in which the students acquired the contents presented to them in such a way. The obtained results are satisfactory, although they have not fully met the expectations. However, if the problems and flaws are identified and addressed, the method can be further improved and better results achieved, both regarding the foreign language competencies, as well as multicultural awareness of young people.

A Corpus-Based Study of Adverbial Connectors in Native and Non-native Students＇ Writing

In writing and speaking, adverbial connectors always play a part to connect different parts together at both semantic and syntactic aspects. For it is so important that a lot of scholars have made and are making a series of studies to their functions. On the basis of corpus-based study, this paper firstly makes a comparison to the usage of adverbial connectors in their writings of the native students and non-native students and then exposes a distinctive gap between these two types of writings in usage of adverbial connectors. In order to help Chinese second-language learners acquire English as well as English native speakers do, this study deeply digs this gap and in further provides several pedagogical suggestions for English teachers and second-language learners.

Students＇ Motivation to Study Accounting Subjects： Difference Between Japan and Indonesia

This study investigates the differences between Japanese and Indonesian students＇ motivation to study accounting subjects. In addition, it examines the factors that can significantly influence students＇ motivation to study accounting subjects. Needless to say, the expansion of International Financial Reporting Standards （IFRS） depends on the quality of education in higher academic institutions. For several academic institutions, it is clear that the topic of students＇ motivation is still a meaningful concern, because the improvement of students＇ motivation and ability would enhance these institutions＇ academic performance in a competitive environment. In this study, the authors developed the theoretical model for students＇ motivation to study accounting subjects. This research showed that self-efficacy, accounting self-concept, mastery goals＇ perception, performance goals＇ perception, and social goals＇ perception had a significant influence on students＇ motivation to study accounting subjects. Furthermore, nationality had an impact on students＇ motivation. Japanese students are more motivated to study accounting subjects than Indonesian students. Another result clarified that goals＇ perception influences the relationship among self-efficacy, accounting self-concept, and students＇ motivation.

Introductory course in accounting-Factors affecting the choice of students＇ consideration

This study attempts to investigate if and how students＇ perceptions regarding the first accounting course related with the selection of accounting as a major. Moreover, it examines students＇ initial perceptions and course performance regarding the introductory accounting course. Participants in this study were 120 students from Technological Educational Institute of Kavala, School of Business and Economics （3 departments）, who were asked to complete a survey instrument. The instrument used eleven statements regarding students＇ perceptions （such as difficulty and motivation of the course） of the first accounting course. The main factors affect students＇ decisions to follow accounting and seem to be similar with other researchers＇ findings （Geiger ＆ Ogilby, 2000）. Future research could be used larger sample from different countries and the survey could also be used for a longer time period.

A Study of Students＇ Opinions About History Subjects in the Social Studies Curriculum

Social studies combines social sciences and the humanities, and has the purpose of raising effective citizens. There are many different areas integrated in social studies including history, geography, philosophy and psychology. Social studies is the presentation of the information produced by these areas in framework of a curriculum. Social studies curriculum is a multi-dimensional program. One of the objectives of this program is to raise individuals who know about their past and shape their future with the help of the lessons they learn from history. In this context, the aim of this study is to determine sixth grade students＇ perspective to the history subjects in social studies curriculum, learn the place of history in their lives and see how history subjects are taught in classrooms. This study is limited to the 2014-2015 academic year. The participants were identified using random sampling, a probability-based sampling method. This is a qualitative study. The study includes interviews with eight sixth graders, of whom four were female and four were male. The study data were collected in semi-structured interviews. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The study found that the students enjoyed learning history, had positive opinions about their history grades and their teachers continued to teach history using traditional methods. They also felt that history contributed to their lives. Based on the data collected, the study makes specific suggestions.

On ESP Teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges-from the Perspective of Students＇ Needs

ESP （English for Specific Purposes） is an English approach which relates to certain specific profession, subject or purpose. It is in accordance with the training goal of higher vocational English with its characteristics of profession and practicability. Currently, some problems exist in the ESP teaching at HVC （Higher Vocational Colleges）, which leads to unsatisfactory teaching effect of ESP. Some suggestions will be devoted to improvement of ESP teaching in HVC from the perspective of students＇ needs.

Research on the Influence about students＇ Quality Training by Contemporary Chinese Literature Teaching

The Discussion About the Practice of University Students＇ Off-campus Internship Organization

The role of practice teaching in the cultivation of college talents is becoming more and more important. Students＇ off-campus internships are an essential part of practice teaching. The organizational implementation of off-campus internship is the foundation of the success of the internship and the realization of the goal of training talents. The university should improve the system construction, ensure the student＇s off-campus program, the organization, the teacher, the financial support and so on. In line with the principle of mutual benefit, the author will strengthen communication and exchanges with enterprises and establish a long-term and stable basis for after-school internship. To guarantee the practice effect and achieve the goals of talents cultivation, stimulating students＇ enthusiasm to participate in the internship is necessary through the establishment of scientific and reasonable practice performance evaluation system.

On cultivating students＇ ability of autonomous leaming during the English class in universities

It is necessary to cultivate students＇ ability of autonomous learning. This is not only because the theory of life-long learning and the theory of modem languages teaching but also the guarantee of improving the efficiency of English teaching. Explaining the Private College Students＇ English Academic Ability by Social Cultural Perspective

From the perspective of the sociocultural theory （SCI）, this article examines Chinese students＇ present states of English academic achievements in some private colleges by investigating teacher-student interaction. It then analyzes underlying factors influencing learner＇s academic ability. Finally it investigates some efficient class teaching strategies to promote their academic development, using class interventions such as the know-want-learn strategy （KWL）, the object-explore-success-happy strategy （OESH）, the cooperative project between students and teacher＇s strategy （CPST） and so on. Theoretically, the paper aims to place the SCT perspectives in the foreground. Pedagogically, it attempts to raise teacher-practitioners＇ wisdom so as to enhance learners＇ English academic achievements from the affective perspective.

Problems and Strategies in Cultivating English Major Students＇ Vocational Ability in Ethnic Regions

The cultivation of English major students＇ vocational ability is the key to the improvement of graduates＇ quality, the enhancement employment and shortening the entry cycle. However, due to the improper curriculum, lack of the micro-standard skill teaching lab and the formalistic teaching practice, there are many problems in English major students＇ vocational ability in ethnic regions. For instance, their language knowledge and ability is not solid; they lack the modem foreign language teaching theories; they have a weak pragmatic competence and lack teaching reflection, etc.. In practical teaching, it is proved that the following ways are effective to solve these problems optimizing the curriculum, strengthening language teaching and skill training and improving the quality of teaching practice and teaching reflection

An Analysis of College Students＇ Autonomous English Learning Ability under the Network Environment

Referring to the questionnaire survey and literature materials, this paper describes the current situation of college students＇ insufficient autonomous English learning ability and thefactors that influence this ability; it also suggests feasible suggestions under the network environment. Students （N= 178） from different grades, majors, universities and areas responded to a questionnaire survey, and the collected data were analyzed. The results indicate that complex external environment and insufficient internal subject cognition influence college students＇ autonomous English learning ability. Finally, this paper suggests that a good network environment is necessary for autonomous learners to enhance insufficient autonomous English learning ability and interaction, continuous thinking and cultural introduction are also indispensable to develop this ability.

Influencing of students＇ health status and physical education

Schools and parents should pay attention to health education for students＇ health awareness and good health habits, to establish a correct concept of health. School mental health education should be the first place; school should create a positive learning environment for students to get knowledge and skills of exercising. Especially in the nine years of compulsory education stage, we should ensure necessary physical exercise, reasonable arrangements for extracurricular activities to improve students＇ physical fitness. We should improve the school＇ s sports facilities, and create a good campus atmosphere. Schools should actively carry out extra-curricular sports activities, improve the level of quality of physical education teachers, develop students＇ sports consciousness, and improve material conditions for the students to create a good learning environment, meanwhile, we should increase the content of education, and enrich the content of physical education to enable students to select and reach more sports.

Television as Popular Culture Media and Parental Attention and Their Correlation to the Students＇ Motivation to Choose Major

Television as one of the popular culture media plays an important role in the development of students＇ personality and knowledge because it provides countless information and entertainment that can enhance their knowledge as the viewers. This study was conducted to give an idea whether television viewing and parental attention can assist students to take a decision of choosing major at the senior high school. This study used descriptive method which analyzed the correlation among television viewing, parental attention, and the students＇ motivation to choose a major. The sample of this study consisted of 100 students of the state senior high school in Malang, East Java. The finding shows that there is no correlation among television viewing, parental attention, and the students＇ motivation to choose major at the senior high school. In other words, the possibility of choosing the major can be attributed to some other factors such as interest, talent, aspiration, and other expectation to achieve their goals

Students＇ Attitude and Their Level of the ICT Use as Learning English Media

This study aims to reveal the students＇ attitude towards the use of Information and Communication Technology （ICT） as learning English Media, to describe the level of their ability to use ICT, and to portray their difficulties to apply Internet at universities. This study used quantitative and qualitative （mixed） method which consisted of two data collection techniques： questionnaire and interview. Respondents total 153 students who responded to the questionnaire and participants interviewed were four students from two private universities in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The findings show that students have positive attitude towards ICT use as media for learning English. The data analysis strengthens the results which indicate that Intemet as part oflCT functions helps students to elicit useful information. Of the 99.4% participants respond to the questionnaire which stated strongly agree or agree, its mean score is M = 4.69, and its standard deviation is SD = 0.50. The level of students＇ ability to apply ICT is good. Moreover, interview data indicates that students face two difficulties to apply ICT such as Intemet connection problems and ICT illiteracy. The former is regarding the Intemet facility given by the university. The latter deals with the students＇ incompetence in applying ICT because they have no Intemet use experience.
