The authors' purpose is to compare Libyan and Australian students' perceptions of empowerment in accounting courses and to investigate their relationships with classroom instruction. This study involves a survey of 409 students, who are studying the first-year business degree at institutions in Libya and Australia. Observations and interviews are also conducted. Data are analyzed using reliability tests, factor analysis, t-tests, and correlations. The results indicate that Australian students are more empowered than Libyan students. In addition, the result reveals that classroom instruction methods influence students' empowerment.展开更多

The data were collected from the series of four lessons in the fifth grade by teaching experiment methodology conducted following the professional development project implemented lesson study and open approach in Thailand. The results show that extension and integration sequence is an appropriate subject matter to generate lesson for problem-solving classroom. The sequence of lesson leads students to excitement, curiosity, confidence and intimacy in mathematics that are powerful effects of mathematical creativity. Students can produce the different and various ways to solve problems that indicate their divergent thinking.展开更多

The purpose of the research was to introduce the method of students' presentations in foreign language teaching, as well as the topics related to the culture and civilization of the English-speaking countries. After the introductory lectures on how the presentation on the given topic in the English language should be prepared, and after the presentations were delivered by the students during one semester, the results of the questionnaires which the students had to solve at the beginning and the end of the semester, were compared. The goal of the research was to examine the extent in which the students acquired the contents presented to them in such a way. The obtained results are satisfactory, although they have not fully met the expectations. However, if the problems and flaws are identified and addressed, the method can be further improved and better results achieved, both regarding the foreign language competencies, as well as multicultural awareness of young people.展开更多

In addition, it examines the factors that can significantly influence students' motivation to study accounting subjects. Needless to say, the expansion of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) depends on the quality of education in higher academic institutions. For several academic institutions, it is clear that the topic of students' motivation is still a meaningful concern, because the improvement of students' motivation and ability would enhance these institutions' academic performance in a competitive environment. In this study, the authors developed the theoretical model for students' motivation to study accounting subjects. This research showed that self-efficacy, accounting self-concept, mastery goals' perception, performance goals' perception, and social goals' perception had a significant influence on students' motivation to study accounting subjects. Furthermore, nationality had an impact on students' motivation. Japanese students are more motivated to study accounting subjects than Indonesian students. Participants in this study were 120 students from Technological Educational Institute of Kavala, School of Business and Economics (3 departments), who were asked to complete a survey instrument. The instrument used eleven statements regarding students' perceptions (such as difficulty and motivation of the course) of the first accounting course. The main factors affect students' decisions to follow accounting and seem to be similar with other researchers' findings (Geiger & Ogilby, 2000). Social studies is the presentation of the information produced by these areas in framework of a curriculum. Social studies curriculum is a multi-dimensional program. One of the objectives of this program is to raise individuals who know about their past and shape their future with the help of the lessons they learn from history. In this context, the aim of this study is to determine sixth grade students' perspective to the history subjects in social studies curriculum, learn the place of history in their lives and see how history subjects are taught in classrooms. This study is limited to the 2014-2015 academic year. The participants were identified using random sampling, a probability-based sampling method. This is a qualitative study. The study includes interviews with eight sixth graders, of whom four were female and four were male. The study data were collected in semi-structured interviews. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The study found that the students enjoyed learning history, had positive opinions about their history grades and their teachers continued to teach history using traditional methods. They also felt that history contributed to their lives. Based on the data collected, the study makes specific suggestions.展开更多

This study was conducted to give an idea whether television viewing and parental attention can assist students to take a decision of choosing major at the senior high school. This study used descriptive method which analyzed the correlation among television viewing, parental attention, and the students' motivation to choose a major. The sample of this study consisted of 100 students of the state senior high school in Malang, East Java. The finding shows that there is no correlation among television viewing, parental attention, and the students' motivation to choose major at the senior high school. In other words, the possibility of choosing the major can be attributed to some other factors such as interest, talent, aspiration, and other expectation to achieve their goals展开更多

This study used quantitative and qualitative (mixed) method which consisted of two data collection techniques: questionnaire and interview. Respondents total 153 students who responded to the questionnaire and participants interviewed were four students from two private universities in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The findings show that students have positive attitude towards ICT use as media for learning English. The data analysis strengthens the results which indicate that Intemet as part oflCT functions helps students to elicit useful information. Of the 99.4% participants respond to the questionnaire which stated strongly agree or agree, its mean score is M = 4.69, and its standard deviation is SD = 0.50. The level of students' ability to apply ICT is good. Moreover, interview data indicates that students face two difficulties to apply ICT such as Intemet connection problems and ICT illiteracy. The former is regarding the Intemet facility given by the university. The latter deals with the students' incompetence in applying ICT because they have no Intemet use experience.展开更多

This study used quantitative and qualitative (mixed) method which consisted of two data collection techniques: questionnaire and interview. Respondents total 153 students who responded to the questionnaire and participants interviewed were four students from two private universities in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The findings show that students have positive attitude towards ICT use as media for learning English. The data analysis strengthens the results which indicate that Intemet as part oflCT functions helps students to elicit useful information. Of the 99.4% participants respond to the questionnaire which stated strongly agree or agree, its mean score is M = 4.69, and its standard deviation is SD = 0.50. The level of students' ability to apply ICT is good. Moreover, interview data indicates that students face two difficulties to apply ICT such as Intemet connection problems and ICT illiteracy. The former is regarding the Intemet facility given by the university. The latter deals with the students' incompetence in applying ICT because they have no Intemet use experience.
