However, the frequency of figurative languages is very common in English world. So, it is necessary for us to have such knowledge of English idioms in English study. Based on literature review, few studies focused their attention on examining vocational colleges EFL problems in English idioms. Moreover, fewer studies provided quantitative data to demonstrate the problems. Understanding the original texts in one language is the key to accurate translation of another language. Translation may be a good way to examine whether students understand English idioms. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate vocational college students' understanding level of English idioms through their translation in order to find how difficult English idioms are for them. Participants were 36 sophomore students who study at Jiaxing Vocational and Technical College. Student's total errors of Chinese translations could be found through the coding as well as the total accurate number of Chinese translations. The findings suggest these students' understanding level of English idioms is not high. It is further supported by the fact that English idioms are difficult and not translated easily from one language to another language.展开更多

Lack of knowledge about calorie needs could be contributing to the high prevalence of obesity in the US. Young adulthood is a crucial period for the development of dietary behaviors that continue into later adulthood and influence the risk of obesity and chronic disease. This study examined university students’ knowledge of their recommended calorie needs. Subjects (N = 153) were students at Texas Tech University in Fall 2010. Students were given a survey to assess perceived daily calorie need (PDCN) and perceived daily calorie intake (PDCI). Their recommended daily calorie needs (RDCN) and actual calorie intakes (ACI) were determined using MyPyramid.gov. PDCN, PDCI, RDCN, and ACI were compared to determine students’ ability to accurately estimate and consume recommended daily calorie levels. The range of their PDCN was 120 kcal to 10,000 kcal. Only 19.7% of students estimated their RDCN accurately. There were significant differences between PDCN and RDCN (t [152] = ?3.223, P = 0.002);PDCI and ACI (t [114] = 3.246, P = 0.002);and ACI and RDCN (t [114] = ?5.6, P = 0.000). Nearly 40% of these university students were overweight. BMI had a significant effect (P = 0.001) on students’ estimation of their RDCN as students with underweight/normal BMI were more accurate. Nutrition education programs focused on calorie needs should be implemented with university students so they will be able to effectively use calorie information on food labels and menus for weight management.展开更多

Most of the literature availableas on date are predominantly based on western studies, where theindividual’s personal achievement, autonomy, control, power are consideredto be most important. But these western models often influenced by theirindividualistic philosophy and cultural values are quite inapplicable forpluralistic Indian society, where we believe in collaboration and teamwork.Rare attempts have been made to develop an indigenous model to measurethese attributes in our society. The present study is first of its kind to assessthe salient and non-salient needs of technical students pursuing their studiesin India. Authors have identified measures of the students’ engagement invarious academic, co-curricular activities and their performance outcomes.A sample of Four-hundred and Sixty-five (N=465) engineering/sciencestudents were collected through purposive sampling exclusively from IITKharagpur , a premier technical institute in eastern India where studentsacross the country got selected and joined on merit basis, through thenational level joint entrance examination for Engineering and Science, thetoughest examination in the country, known as IIT-JEE. Career implicationsare discussed in light of the major findings.展开更多

Nutrition education programs focused on calorie needs should be implemented with university students so they will be able to effectively use calorie information on food labels and menus for weight management.
文摘In this paper, I carried on the research under the guidance of the theory of hierarchy of needs, and preventing a detailed work plan. During the research, we cleared for measures, which were "adhere to the people-oriented, mining the potential of students, make up the insufficient to properly resolve the crisis, to create a learning atmosphere". So it provides a new idea for promoting the construction and development of college student cadres, and maintains the stability of the campus and the construction of harmonious campus.
文摘In the current scenario of rapid expansion of higher education, it becomesimperative to study the dynamic factors underlying quality education, student motivation and learning outcomes. Career implicationsare discussed in light of the major findings.
文摘With the continuously increasing competition in the modern society, the learning pressure of students is getting greater and greater and many students are in shortage of reasonable time to take physical exercises so that they are in a state of sub-health for a long time. Aerobics, as a combination of music and sports, has been more and more popular among teachers and students. However, in aerobics training, the injuries to the physical bodies of students will be caused due to the improper training methods. Therefore, in this paper, the points needing attention in aerobics training is studied, and then scientific aerobics training methods are proposed.
文摘Through the analysis of the characteristics of the adult students in the open distance education and on the basis of constructivism, the researcher tentatively proposed an All-round Translation Teaching Approach under the guidance of the theories of constructivism in order to improve translation teaching of the open distance education.
文摘The purpose of this paper is to show the importance of grammar teaching for the students of English majors in China and to provide an integrated teaching method for the teachers of English in China and colleagues in similar situations outside of China, through the analysis of the nature and role of grammar, of the importance of form depending upon the students' and instructional variables, and of using texts communicatively, in English teaching.
