CHINA SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS STUDIES

Sponsored by scholars and experts concerned with human rights at nine Beijing-based schools of higher learning and research institutes, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the All-China Women’s Federation, the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) was founded in January 1993. It is the largest academic organization specializing in human rights studies in China, and a non-government organization that is in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. A non-profit organization, CSHRS relies on financial aid and donations to maintain its operations.

EDITOR＇S NOTE： An exhibition on human rights in China was held in the Cultural Palace of Ethnic Groups, Beijing, November 17-26, 2006, jointly by the Information Office of the State Council, China Society for Human Rights Studies （CSHRS） and China Human Rights Development Fund. The exhibition attracted more than 10,000 visitors from in and outside the country and aroused much media attention. Comprehensively Implementing the Rule of Law Solidly Pushing Forward Human Rights Development——Interview with President Luo Haocai of the China Society for Human Rights Studies(CSHRS)

The Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China （CPC） reviewed and approved the Decision of the CPC Central Committee on Certain Key Issues Concerning Comprehensively Pushing Forward the Rule of Law （hereafter, ＂Decision＂）. The plenary session was convened at a pivotal stage in comprehensively building a well-off society and comprehen- sively deepening reform. It was the first of its kind with the theme of the rule of law and was a landmark event in China＇s legal construction. The Journal interviewed Professor Luo Haocai, who is also president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies （CSHRS）.

Speech at the Symposium on Study and Implementation of the Spirit of the 19^(th) CPC National Congress at the China Society for Human Rights Studies

Following the successful conclusion of the 19thCommunist Party of China National Congress,there has been a nationwide upsurge in the study and implementation of the spirit of the Congress.It was therefore both necessary and timely for the China Society for Human Rights Studies to organize a symposium on the study and implementation of the spirit of the Congress.I’d like to express my understanding of the study and implementation of the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress from three aspects:

China Society for Human Rights Studies Organizes Forum to Study and Implement Guidelines of 3rd Plenum of 18th CPC Central Committee

The China Society for Human Rights Studies （CSHRS） organized on Nov. 28 a forum to study and implement the guidelines of the third plenary session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China （CPC）. Executive members of CSHRS and other CSHRS members in Beijing discussed improvement of judicial protection for human rights and legal construction in China. CSHRS President Luo Haocai, who was vice chairman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People＇s Political Consultative Conference, delivered a speech at the forum.

Human Rights NGOs and the United Nations Human Rights Council——Participation by the China Society for Human Rights Studies in the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism

Since its founding in 1993, the China Society for Human Rights Studies （CSHRS） has extensively participated inthe human rights work of the United Nations （UN） and has actively carried out international exchange and cooperation. In May 2012, the UN Human Rights Council （UNHRC） initiated the second round of country reviews on human rights.

Scholars Discuss Hu Jintao's Letter to China Society for Human Rights Studies

Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of ,China and state president,recently wrote a letter to the China Society for Human Rights Studies （CSHRS）. The letter was published on December 10, 2008. Social circles have responded enthusiastically to the letter. On December 16, 2008 the society held a forum where participants discussed important ideas Hu expresses in his letter.
