Application of Suprasegmentals to Oral Tourism English

In tourism English,oral English is particularly significant.Realizing the importance of correct pronunciation of the individual English sounds in communication,the tourist employees used to practicing the pronunciation of words,but neglect the significance of suprasegmentals in communication.This thesis analyzes the function of suprasegmentals,such as syllable,stress,rhythm,pitch,intonation,pause and tempo in tourism English and points out the importance of understanding them,therefore tourist employees would better strength the practice of suprasegmentals in oral tourism English.

Integrating Pronunciation into Oral Communication

The usefulness of pronunciation teaching is a widely debated subject in the language teaching world. Some of the current research would suggest that teachers can make little or no difference in improving their students'pronunciation. In contrast, there is research that indicates that the teacher can make a noticeable difference if certain criteria, such as the teaching of suprasegmentals and the linking of pronunciation with oral practice, are fulfilled. This paper intends to address the practical challenges related to integrating pronunciation into oral communication. First, the central difficulty in integrating pronunciation into the speaking classroom is described. Next, all-skill principles to guide the incorporation of pronunciation into oral communication courses are suggested. Finally, possible implementation strategies that can be applied to a wide variety of instructional settings are explored.

Factors Affecting Students' Willingness to Correct Pronunciation Errors

This study is going to explore two questions: a) Do Chinese learners have awareness of what kind of pronunciation errors they make; b) What factors will affect Chinese learners' willingness to correct the pronunciation errors they make. The instrument will consist of 4 questionnaires or 4 parts developed by four researchers(Luk and Sardegna, Lee, Kusey). The whole study will include 6 parts: background information about pronunciation; two research questions; the methodology; the results;the discussion and a conclusion.

Obstacles for Chinese EFL Learners to Improve Speech Intelligibility

As the primary means of communication,speech is an essential aspect for humans to interact and build connections in the social world.Speech intelligibility is critical in social communication;unintelligibility may lead to confusion,misunderstanding,and frustration.Many Chinese learners of English find it challenging to apply English into social interaction and reach mutual intelligibility with international communicators.This article analyzes the obstacles impeding Chinese EFL learners’speech intelligibility development,from the aspects of phonology(segmental and suprasegmental features)and pragmatics.Some strategies are proposed to help Chinese learners ameliorate phonology and pragmatics problems and improve speech intelligibility in English communication.

我国法语学习者中介语“节首+节核”结构分析——以“塞音+小舌擦音+元音”结构为例

中介语不同音节结构的成因一直是学界所关注的一个问题。本文以“塞音+小舌擦音+元音”为例,旨在发现与我国法语学习者中介语中“节首+节核”结构相关的音段层面、超音段层面的隐性制约条件。在分析中,我们首先收集了48名A1水平的法语学习者所产出音节结构,并发现学习者倾向以CVCV、CVV以及CV三种结构对目标语中的CCV结构进行替换。其次,通过比较三种中介语音节结构和目标语音节结构,我们发现控制中介语音节结构产生的隐性制约条件既存在于音段层面,也存在于超音段层面:CVCV、CVV结构所涉及的隐性制约条件既属于音段层面的,也属于超音段层面的,而CV结构所涉及的隐性制约条件则属于超音段层面。分析结果表明:并不是所有中介语音节结构都可以从音段层面进行解释,其还受到超音段制约条件的影响。中介语音节结构的复杂性的正是来自目标语和母语音段特征、超音段特征的组合、聚合的拼合,因此一种兼顾音段以及超音段特征的分析方法有助于更好地分析中介语音系中的音节结构。
