Building occupants are not immune to ill-health as a result of time they spend in a building. This paper seeks to examine the effects furniture ergonomics have on student’s satisfaction in the library of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.A pilot survey was initially conducted in the library through a one-to-one interaction with students to fetch their opinions on the general effects of the furniture. An observation through several walkthroughs was also conducted by the researchers to compare and validate responses obtained. Two hundred and sixty-five students that come from fifteen nationalities are surveyed.A structured questionnaire is used to collect data on the respondents’opinions on the size, shape, arrangement and comfort of the furniture.Eta cross tabulation,Spearman’s rho and Kendall’s Tau-b are used to establish relationships. Results show that amongst the effects studied, there are significant positive relationships between students’satisfaction of furniture ergonomics as against back-strain and lack of concentration. This implies that the more the furniture arrangements, size and shape are perceived unsatisfactory, the more their effects on back-strain and lack of concentration towards the students. This paper further recommends that library management should see to designing IEQ(Indoor Environmental Quality)guidelines that will mitigate the effects of furniture ergonomics thus improving student’s satisfaction. 展开更多

Ensuring program satisfaction for undergraduate students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics(STEM)matters in student retention and education quality improvement. This study explores how four rarely examined variables support from faculty members, interdisciplinary features of STEM program courses, disciplinary connectedness of STEM program core courses, and examination difficulty impact Chinese STEM undergraduates’program satisfaction. With data from 619 Chinese STEM undergraduates, structural equation modeling shows that course satisfaction partially mediates the impact of support from faculty members on program satisfaction, while fully mediating that of interdisciplinary features of STEM program courses and disciplinary connectedness of STEM program core courses on program satisfaction.Examination difficulty exerts no significant impact on program satisfaction neither directly nor indirectly.Support from faculty members impact course satisfaction significantly stronger for junior and senior students than for freshmen and sophomores, while interdisciplinary features of STEM program courses impact course satisfaction stronger for freshmen and sophomores than for juniors and seniors. The study ends with practical implications for the higher education reform in relevant areas. 展开更多

Faculty shortages have made recruitment of clinical faculty and clinical teaching more challenging. As such, alternate models of clinical faculty assignments are being explored to address faculty shortages. This article contains an extensive literature review conducted to survey models of clinical education and student satisfaction with the clinical environment. The purpose of this paper is to examine student satisfaction in the clinical learning environment using articles employing the Clinical Learning Envi-ronment Inventory (CLEI) along with examining the use of alternate clinical staffing models in differing levels of undergraduate nursing students. A literature search focusing on studies published between 2002 and 2015 was conducted from 5 electronic databases. Thirty-five articles were reviewed and 22 were selected for this literature review. The studies reviewed concluded that students favored a more positive and favorable clinical environment than they perceived as being actually present. A supportive clinical learning environment is of paramount importance in securing positive teaching learning out-comes. Nurse educators can apply the results of this review in order to develop and maintain quality clinical teaching and to promote a positive, student-centric, clinical learning environment. 展开更多

To get information in the sexual and contraceptive behaviors in Chinese female college students, a randomized cluster sampling was conducted in colleges and universities in Wuhan Area, China, in terms of types of colleges, subjects (literature, sciences, medicines, art etc), and grades etc. A total number of 2450 questionnaires were distributed, with 2365 questionnaires returned being valid. The return rate of valid questionnaires was 96.6 %. The questionnaire investigation was conducted on a multiple-choice and anonymous basis. Data were input into computer and SPSS12.0 software package was employed for statistical analysis. Among the female students, 1196 had the experiences of hugging and kissing (50.57 %) and 423 (17.89 %) had sexual experiences (sexual intercourse). The first sexual intercourse took place at the age of 19.23±1.74 y. There were significant differences in the sexual experiences among the majors of different subjects, with the rate of sexual experiences in art majors (43.17 %) and high-grade students (34.31%) being the highest. The causes of the first sexual intercourse included sexual impulse, curiosity, intention to strengthen the relationship or to show loyalty to boyfriend and sometimes violence. While the motives of the sexual intercourse within the past one year before the investigation were to satisfy the sexual needs and to strengthen the relation with their boyfriends. With both first intercourse and sexual experiences within last one year, the partners of the sexual intercourse were mainly their boyfriends (95.7 % and 97.3 % respectively), but the partners also included acquaintances, "one night stand" partners and customers of sex trade. Some of them had multiple sexual partners, with the highest number of the sexual partners being 11. In the first sexual intercourse of the subjects, 44.0 % of them did not take any contraceptive measures; only 16.4 % of them used condoms. In the sexual intercourse within the last one year, only 44.6 % took contraceptive measures every time they had sexual intercourse. Among those who took contraceptive measures, 64.4 % used condoms. Among those who had sexual intercourse, 101 persons got pregnant, with a rate of pregnancy being 4.3 %, accounting for 23.9 % of all who had sexual intercourse. Among those who got pregnant, 78 persons got pregnant once; the others became pregnant more than two times, the highest being 5 times. There were 122 persons who had inflammation of reproductive system, mostly vaginitis. Other conditions included venereal warts and herpes genitalis. It is concluded that the rate of sexual behaviors is high in female college students and there exist promiscuity, unexpected pregnancy and transmission of STD in the students. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate and improve our out-patients department patient satisfaction, provide minimum consultation delay and appropriate consultation duration to meet with targets. METHODS: We distributed the modified satisfaction with outpatient service(SWOPS) questionnaires developed for use in Irish hospitals by the Health Services Research between August and December 2012. The patient disclosed their age and sex and completed the modified SWOPS questionnaire anonymously. Every patient was eligible to participate in the study who attended any of the Urology Outpatient Clinics. Patients lacking capacity to consent were excluded. Additionally, each patient was only permitted to complete one questionnaire regardless of repeat attendances within the 4 mo study period. The answers to every question were presented as percentages. One-way ANOVA was used to establish whether there was a significant difference in appointment delay and "Overall Satisfaction"on the different clinic days. The unpaired t-test was applied to establish whether "Overall Satisfaction" was affected by diagnosis(benign or malignant). Paired t-test was used to establish whether "Overall Satisfaction" was affected by appointment delay and appointment length. RESULTS: Three hundred and forty-eight questionnaires were completed with an overall > 65% participation rate. Eighty-one point six percent were male and 18.4% female with a mean age of 65 ± 21 years. Mean delay time was 32 min, which 30.6% stated should be an improvement priority. The delay times for Wednesday(mean 13 min) were significantly(P < 0.05) lower than for other days(mean 36 min). Generally 12-15 min outpatient appointment length is acceptable and adequate for patients as 97.70% suggested, however 31.60% of patients would favour longer duration. Eleven point four nine percent do not want to see different doctors each time, and 31.60% of the patient feel that no change is required. Average satisfaction was 84.65%. There was no significant relationship between satisfaction and clinic day, diagnosis and consultation length, whether the patient was reviewed by a registrar or consultant. Satisfaction was universally high and independent of consultation delay/length and diagnosis. Dissatisfaction in delay times with a significant improvement on Wednesday suggests necessary and achievable improvements. Notably, the Wednesday clinic has less patients per doctor per hour and enforces a 1 patient per 15 min slot with a no over-booking policy. CONCLUSION: Surveying our patient dissatisfaction would require more frequent audits by clinicians to improve patient satisfaction and to achieve better quality of care. 展开更多
