Nowadays,cultural exchanges between China and the world are becoming more frequent with the predominant feature that increasing Chinese films and television dramas are going to the globe.Due to different cultural backgrounds,the translation of culturally-loaded words becomes a major difficulty in the subtitles.This article is based on the popular TV seriesEmpresses in the Palace in the Chinese version and the American version,dividing the culturally-loaded words in the play into:social culturallyloaded words,ecological culturally-loaded words,religious culturally-loaded words,material culturally-loaded words,and linguistic culturally-loaded words.Since the translation of subtitles is affected by time and space and other factors,its strategy also needs to be adjusted.This article analyzes four kinds of translation strategies adopted in the play respectively,i.e.transliteration,literal translation,free translation,omission,and alternative.

Reader-Response Criticism is one of the schools of western literary criticism.The scholars of the school hold the view that literature is a performative art and each reading is a performance,analogous to playing/singing a musical work,enacting a drama,etc.Literature exists only when it is read. They maintain that reading is a transction between the reader and the text,meaning is as dependent upon the reader as it is dependent upon the text.So there is no universal and absolute interpretation of a poem;rather,there can be several probable interpretations.According to their view-point,a literary text possesses no fixed and final meaning and value.Literary meaning and value are"transactional","dialogic",created by the interaction of the reader and the text.In this paper,the writer,with his interpretation of the poem The Road Not Taken by famous American poet Robert Frost,tries to demonstrate that Reader-Response Criticism,in a sense,is reasonable in proving that the reality of the text lies between the reader and the text and in the transaction,it is the readers who bring their world of experience to activate the text.

A Study on the Correlation Between LIWC Word Categories and Chinese Composition Writing Performance of Fourth,Fifth,and Sixth Grade Students

This study focuses on the analysis of the Chinese composition writing performance of fourth,fifth,and sixth grade students in 16 selected schools in Longhua District,Shenzhen during the spring semester of 2023.Using LIWC(Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count)as a text analysis tool,the study explores the impact of LIWC categories on writing performance which is scaled by score.The results show that the simple LIWC word categories have a significant positive influence on the composition scores of lower-grade students;while complex LIWC word categories have a significant negative influence on the composition scores of lower-grade students but a significant positive influence on the composition scores of higher-grade students.Process word categories have a positive influence on the composition scores of all three grades,but the impact of complex process word categories increases as the grade level rises.

By juxtaposing two of Robert Frost's poems—"The Road Not Taken"and"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"and using stylistic analysis method,this essay tries to make a comparative study on the poems from the perspective of intertextuality,so as to find out a trajectory of Robert Frost's meditations on life and the consistency and connectivity in the crafts and style of his poems,and thus acquire a deeper and multi-angle interpretation on the poems.

Novel Representations of Word Embedding Based on the Zolu Function

Two learning models,Zolu-continuous bags of words(ZL-CBOW)and Zolu-skip-grams(ZL-SG),based on the Zolu function are proposed.The slope of Relu in word2vec has been changed by the Zolu function.The proposed models can process extremely large data sets as well as word2vec without increasing the complexity.Also,the models outperform several word embedding methods both in word similarity and syntactic accuracy.The method of ZL-CBOW outperforms CBOW in accuracy by 8.43%on the training set of capital-world,and by 1.24%on the training set of plural-verbs.Moreover,experimental simulations on word similarity and syntactic accuracy show that ZL-CBOW and ZL-SG are superior to LL-CBOW and LL-SG,respectively.
