Experimental Study on Allowable Berthing and Mooring Conditions of An Oil Tanker

When an oil tanker under the combined action of wind, waves and tidal current and is berthed or moored to a platform, the impact forces on the fenders and the tensile force in the mooring lines are important factors in the studies of berthing and mooring conditions. Based on the experiment of a berthing and mooring tanker model under the action of wind, wave and tidal current in the same direction, this paper studies the allowable berthing and mooring conditions by considering the tensile forces of mooring lines and impact forces on the fenders, as well as the impact energy on the fenders. And a method has been proposed here for motion amplitude analysis. A successful method to decrease impact forces on the fenders is put forward. Blowing in wind and blowing off wind and different angles between waves and the fenders are considered in the experimental study. In the berthing tests of the tanker model, the impact forces are measured and the impact energy is calculated, then the berthing conditions are determined. In the mooring tests of the tanker model, the mooring line tensile forces and impact forces are measured, and the allowable mooring conditions are given that will be useful to engineering design. 展开更多

In this paper a hybrid process of modeling and optimization, which integrates a support vector machine (SVM) and genetic algorithm (GA), was introduced to reduce the high time cost in structural optimization of ships. SVM, which is rooted in statistical learning theory and an approximate implementation of the method of structural risk minimization, can provide a good generalization performance in metamodeling the input-output relationship of real problems and consequently cuts down on high time cost in the analysis of real problems, such as FEM analysis. The GA, as a powerful optimization technique, possesses remarkable advantages for the problems that can hardly be optimized with common gradient-based optimization methods, which makes it suitable for optimizing models built by SVM. Based on the SVM-GA strategy, optimization of structural scantlings in the midship of a very large crude carrier (VLCC) ship was carried out according to the direct strength assessment method in common structural rules (CSR), which eventually demonstrates the high efficiency of SVM-GA in optimizing the ship structural scantlings under heavy computational complexity. The time cost of this optimization with SVM-GA has been sharply reduced, many more loops have been processed within a small amount of time and the design has been improved remarkably. 展开更多

Classical structural reliability analysis of intact ship hulls is extended to the case of ships with collision or grounding damages.Still water load distribution and residual bending moment capacity are included as random variables in the limit state equation.The probability density functions of these random variables are defined based on random damage parameters given by the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization,while the proposed reliability formulation is consistent with international recommendations and thus may be valuable in the development of rules for accidental limit states.The methodology is applied on an example of an Aframax oil tanker.The proposed approach captures in a rational way complex interaction of different pertinent variables influencing safety of damaged ship structure. 展开更多

We spent our time researching the competitive factors to reduce the time of distribution of petroleum products, by setting up a computer system based on Dijkstra’s algorithm our contribution will solve a real problem of delivery with direct targeting of gas stations. We set up a tool to help to map based on the method of operational research starting with the identification of delivery point, mapping and then applying the algorithm. Mainly the graph theory and the optimal path in a network by a short path using the method of Dijkstra for the design we used the UML language, the programming we used the JAVA language with very appreciable results to finish with a conclusion. 展开更多

The loading capacity of 300~500 metric tones deadweight was achieved at a draught able to pass the Strait of Malacca. To Achieve high propulsive performance at sea, the hull particulars and the fore section of the hull were designed to prevent the resistance increase in waves and the stern form was optimized using CFD code to maintain low viscous resistance. Moreover, vibration response analysis for the superstructure was carried out using the three dimensional finite element model of the whole ship at the design stage. Measurement results of the vibration response of the superstructure were confirmed under the lower boundary of ISO6954:1984 at the official sea trial. 展开更多
