An attention-based teacher-student model for multivariate short-term landslide displacement prediction incorporating weather forecast data

Predicting the displacement of landslide is of utmost practical importance as the landslide can pose serious threats to both human life and property.However,traditional methods have the limitation of random selection in sliding window selection and seldom incorporate weather forecast data for displacement prediction,while a single structural model cannot handle input sequences of different lengths at the same time.In order to solve these limitations,in this study,a new approach is proposed that utilizes weather forecast data and incorporates the maximum information coefficient(MIC),long short-term memory network(LSTM),and attention mechanism to establish a teacher-student coupling model with parallel structure for short-term landslide displacement prediction.Through MIC,a suitable input sequence length is selected for the LSTM model.To investigate the influence of rainfall on landslides during different seasons,a parallel teacher-student coupling model is developed that is able to learn sequential information from various time series of different lengths.The teacher model learns sequence information from rainfall intensity time series while incorporating reliable short-term weather forecast data from platforms such as China Meteorological Administration(CMA)and Reliable Prognosis(https://rp5.ru)to improve the model’s expression capability,and the student model learns sequence information from other time series.An attention module is then designed to integrate different sequence information to derive a context vector,representing seasonal temporal attention mode.Finally,the predicted displacement is obtained through a linear layer.The proposed method demonstrates superior prediction accuracies,surpassing those of the support vector machine(SVM),LSTM,recurrent neural network(RNN),temporal convolutional network(TCN),and LSTM-Attention models.It achieves a mean absolute error(MAE)of 0.072 mm,root mean square error(RMSE)of 0.096 mm,and pearson correlation coefficients(PCCS)of 0.85.Additionally,it exhibits enhanced prediction stability and interpretability,rendering it an indispensable tool for landslide disaster prevention and mitigation.

Student-Teacher Relationship in the Secondary Schools: A Factorial Study

This article contributes to the widening of the international literature concerning the teacher-student relationship under different perspectives:cross-cultural,statistical,and applicative.This work strengthens the psychometric basis of the Student-Teacher Relationship Scale by confirming the three-dimensional structure of the original instrument.Therefore,on the basis of the factor analysis,the instrument proves to apply also to the Vietnamese context.The Student-Teacher Relationship Scale,given its validity,can be a serviceable tool for studying such a construct,both as a monitoring scale of a given relationship and as a way to help teachers achieve a better level of awareness of their educational skills.

A Narrative Research on Affordances for EFL Student Teachers＇ Learning-to-Teach Beyond the Classroom＊

To become a qualified EFL （English as a Foreign Language） student teacher who can take an English teaching job in primary or high school after graduation, he or she must learn and use teacher knowledge inside and outside the classroom. Adopting a narrative research, this paper discusses eight excellent EFL student teachers＇ perception of affordances for learning to teaching beyond the classroom based on the theories of affordance and niche. The results show that perceiving many affordances for learning to teach in their niches is of great significance for student teachers to improve their teaching competence. To make student teachers become qualified, we teacher trainers should not ignore the importance of leaming-to-teach beyond the classroom.

A Preliminary Study of Vocational College Students＇ English Idioms＇ Learning Through Translation

To learn English idioms well is not easy for native speakers, let alone ESL/EFL learners, which is because the meanings of idiomatic expressions cannot be determined through an analysis of their individual word meanings. However, the frequency of figurative languages is very common in English world. So, it is necessary for us to have such knowledge of English idioms in English study. Based on literature review, few studies focused their attention on examining vocational colleges EFL problems in English idioms. Moreover, fewer studies provided quantitative data to demonstrate the problems. Understanding the original texts in one language is the key to accurate translation of another language. Translation may be a good way to examine whether students understand English idioms. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate vocational college students＇ understanding level of English idioms through their translation in order to find how difficult English idioms are for them. Participants were 36 sophomore students who study at Jiaxing Vocational and Technical College. Student＇s total errors of Chinese translations could be found through the coding as well as the total accurate number of Chinese translations. The findings suggest these students＇ understanding level of English idioms is not high. It is further supported by the fact that English idioms are difficult and not translated easily from one language to another language.

Initiating Chinese student teachers into action research

This paper discusses the effectiveness of action research by student teachers during their practicum. Following the review of literature and the presentation of the advantages of action research by student teachers, the paper suggests a three-phased action research process in student teachers＇ practicum. In China, initiating student teachers into an action research approach in teacher preparation programmes, which offers a way to narrow the theory-practice gap, a big problem to student teachers, can effectively integrate professional knowledge and classroom teaching practice and prepare them for the complex role they will face in today＇s world.

The role repositioning of teacher and student in the process of knowledge internalization under flipped classroom

Flipped classroom model led to the transformation of university teachers＇ teaching role. University teachers are those who play a variety of roles of knowledge and society, some being the teaching teachers of organization and dissemination of knowledge, some being scientific and teaching teachers who focus on organizing and disseminating knowledge as well as knowledge creation, and knowledge creation and heavy teacher teaching and research, while others are knowledge creation based research teachers. In the field of the sociology of knowledge, university teachers should be scientific teaching roles depending on a deep knowledge and participating in knowledge in a variety of ways. From the perspective of the sociology of knowledge, according to Eph · Znaniecki＇ s role classification, university teachers participate in knowledge in three ways： teaching, learning and researching. Teaching, learning and researching are relative but different ways of participating in knowledge. State they are relative because itshows teaching can promote learning, learning can promote researching, researching can also promote learning and teaching. The homochromous interaction of teaching, leaming and researching, knowledge is in constant state of development and generation.

Reflection on Classroom Teaching Innovation Triggered by Non-Engfish Majors＇ Evaluation on Chinese and Foreign Instructor＇s Pedagogies

Reflection and Lesson Study in a Mathematics Didactics Course:A Case Study

Teaching mathematics is complex.The changing role of the teacher and the increased demands and expectations placed upon mathematics teachers in the 21st century in South Africa significantly influence the types of knowledge and skills they require in their undergraduate education and professional development.Reflection,as an aspect of metacognitive awareness,enables teachers to think with what they know in learning about teaching and it is therefore an essential characteristic of professional development of mathematics student teachers.Adapted lesson study and literature regarding metacognitive awareness and reflection were implemented in a mathematics didactics course.In this qualitative interpretative case study,the levels of reflections(guided by reflective prompts)and metacognitive awareness in the reflections of one student teacher(Anne)in a mathematics didactics course were collected,analysed,and interpreted(as part of a bigger study).Anne gave evidence in her reflections of her personal insight on her task(teaching),the learners(person)in her classroom,and the teaching-learning strategies(strategies)she had to reflect on the planning,presenting,and evaluating her mathematics lessons.Using adapted lesson study and reflections seems to have facilitated Anne’s metacognitive awareness as well as her professional development as a mathematics teacher.

Should Teachers Be Made To Take the Same Exams as Their Students?

A teacher sitting alongside his/her students taking the same exam is something unheard of in high schools in China.However,in mid-January,over 8,000 high school teach- ers in northeast China’s Shenyang City took part in the final examination together with their students.This is a first for Shenyang’s education system and a move that is still new to most of China.
