Practical Strategies to Improve the Quality of Teachers in Higher Vocational Colleges in the New Era

In this paper,practical strategies are proposed to improve the quality of teachers in higher vocational colleges.Research and analyses have shown that the key to improving the quality of teachers in higher vocational colleges lies in the improvement of professionalism,subject knowledge,and teaching ability.Thus,the following practical strategies are proposed:strengthen teachers’moral development,establish a teacher training system,focus on curriculum construction and teaching method innovation,and strengthen the teaching quality monitoring and evaluation mechanism.These measures can effectively improve the quality of teachers in higher vocational colleges and promote the development of higher vocational education.

Exploring the Long-Term Mechanism of the Construction of College Teachers’Ethics in the New Era Under the Concept of“Sanquan Education”

This paper takes the long-term mechanism exploration of the construction of teachers’ethics in the new era under the concept of“Sanquan education,”aiming to explore how to establish a long-term mechanism of the construction to meet the needs of college education development under the background of the new era.A series of targeted measures and suggestions are put forward,including improving the system and mechanism,strengthening the education and training of teachers’ethics,and establishing the evaluation and assessment mechanism.The implementation of these measures can promote the formation of the long-term mechanism of the construction of teachers’ethics in colleges and universities,improve teachers’ethics and behavior quality,and provide strong support for the development of education in colleges and universities.

The Synergized Quality Improvement Program in Teacher Education:A Policy for Improving the Quality of China's Rural Teachers

Purpose This study elucidates the rationale,implementation,values,and challenges of the Synergized Quality Improvement Program in Teacher Education(SQIPTE)—the first policy specifically dedicated to the development of teaching staff since the founding of the People's Republic of China.Design/Approach/Methods After introducing the primary structure and rationale of the SQIPTE,this study reviews the existing data and research to explain why the program focuses on local normal colleges and determine how it could be implemented more effectively.Findings In establishing group-based assistance under the principle of“1+M+N”(M≥N),the SQIPTE seeks to make normal colleges the primary force in the education of rural teachers and explores a collaborative operating mechanism to this end.Evidence suggests that this innovative program will provide new practical experience for the collaborative development and quality improvement of teachers.Originality/Value This study reviews the SQIPTE as a new Chinese intervention to improve the quality of rural teachers.There is strong evidence to suggest that this innovative program will inspire the construction of collaborative operating mechanisms incorporating multiple resources for teacher education systems across different areas.

QUALITY EDUCATION FACING THE NEW CENTURY AND MIDDLE-SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHERS' TRAINING

This essay illustrates some aspects of quality-education of would-be teachers,involving psycho-logical quality,self-study ability,application of CAI(computer-aided instruction),teaching practice,and evaluation of classroom teaching.These aspects should be emphasised in teachers’ training programs.

Will Special-Contracted Teachers Promote the Development of Rural Students?From the Perspective of the New Human Capital Theory

The Special-Contracted Teacher Scheme,a supplement to the traditional mode of teacher supply,has been implemented for 17 years and the teaching quality of those teachers has gained a lot of attention.Using data of teachers and students from the sample counties in four central and western provincial-level administrative units,this paper studies how special-contracted teachers have affected students’academic performance and non-cognitive ability according to the student development framework of the new human capital theory,and how those effects vary among different teacher groups.Results show that while special-contracted teachers have helped improve the academic performance of rural students,their role is limited in improving students’non-cognitive ability.At the same time,female special-contracted teachers and those without a normal major play an obviously bigger role in raising students’academic performance.The conclusion is that special-contracted teachers can to some extent help narrow the urban-rural gap in academic performance,but more research needs to be done to better understand their effects on students’non-cognitive ability.

Quality Input and Sustainability in Early Immersion Classrooms:A Case Study of an Experimental School in Macao

This paper looks into the case of a school in Macao nominated as the first(and so far the only)China-Canada-United States English Immersion(CCUEI)centre in the Macao Special Administrative Region(Macao SAR)China for the experimentation and application of English immersion instruction(EI)in the K1-3 and Primary 1-2 classes.Drawing on Krashen’s Input Hypothesis(1982)and Cummins’(2000)framework of instruction for language learning and academic achievement in the formal school context,the authors report their observations by analyzing the data collected from school teachers and participation in classes and by reflecting on their experiences,and suggest improvement that can be made to teachers’linguistic and communicative competence,in terms of quantity and quality of comprehensible input and expected output,and thus the sustainability of English immersion classrooms in a Chinese context.
