To transform from a designed vision to a reality in practice, teachers’ right to discipline, as a component of the right to education, needs tangible support from the criminal law. The criminal law cannot be absent from promoting the rule of law in education. However, in practice, teachers’ disciplinary behaviors are often ex-cessively criminalized, leading to problems such as over-expanding punishment and harming the innocent and even the malaise that en-danger substantive justice such as the tarnishing of teachers’ disci-plinary right and the imbalance of teachers’ disciplinary behaviors. Such overcriminalization has its social causes and normative crux, which is the ambiguity of regulations of teachers’ disciplinary right in terms of the pre-existing law and the unclear positioning of the jus-tification of teachers’ disciplinary behaviors in terms of the criminal law. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a dual clarification of the chaotic parts of the two laws and determine the corresponding guiding principles, and test them one by one through the hierarchical theory of crime to make the path of exculpation clear. At the level of constituent elements, the exculpation is achieved through the normative judgment of the constituent elements; At the level of illegality, the exculpation is achieved by virtue of substantive considerations of reasons such as le-gal acts, legitimate defense, and victims’ commitments; At the level of accountability, the exculpation is achieved through the value screening of the culpability paradigm. We should reverse the trend of overcrim-inalization of teachers’ disciplinary behaviors by clearing the way of exculpation.展开更多

Through the analysis of research results, the paper focuses on the following questions: (1) What are the core beliefs of college English teachers? (2) What influence will the teachers' beliefs exert on teaching behaviors? (3) Will the teachers' beliefs change? If the answer is YES, how will they change and what is the source of the changes? The exploratory results and findings can help college English teachers realize the importance of teachers' beliefs, through which can help them improve their teaching practices and foster their professional development.展开更多

The teachers teach students knowledge in words and convey a large amount of information using nonverbal behavior. These nonverbal behavior exert a subtle influence on the students, thus affect the classroom teaching. The English teachers' classroom nonverbal behavior in a higher vocational college in Gansu province was investigated through questionnaires. The results indicate that the teachers' behaviors affect the different aspects of students and then influence the effectiveness of teaching on English classroom teaching in higher vocational college.展开更多

Virtual classrooms, especially with learners sharing in academic workload on portals such as Google Docs, have arrived as a natural development of the ICT (In Circuit Tester) wave. In addition to offering ample scope for peer interaction, Blackboard Collaborate gives learners the electronic environment they are most familiar with and keeps them updated with the latest educational tools. However, for it to succeed, the perception of the teachers is a factor that needs close scrutiny before this tool can be incorporated into the system. The aim of this paper is to investigate the perceptions of teachers at Qassim University, KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) towards the inclusion of Blackboard Collaborate into the teaching-learning environment, and its efficacy as a learning tool in the university's EFL (English as a Foreign Language) situation.展开更多

Data were collected from questionnaires, Web logs and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistics and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis. Findings: Compared with non-community members, community participants had a better understanding of search tasks and were aware of the ways of completing tasks successfully. They did not depend on the information retrieval system when constructing search queries and would adopt diversified cooperation strategies. They were more likely to recommend information to their partners. However, no significant difference was found between subject- based community and interest-based community in CIS practices and user awareness in collaboration. In addition, task difficulty only influenced user preference of issuing queries and confidence of completing search tasks. Research limitations: Our work was limited by the community type we chose and the small group size, which could affect the generalizability of our findings and should be addressed in future studies. Practical implications: The study results will help inform information system designers as they design collaborative systems to facilitate social communication in the information seeking process. Originality/value: Few studies have investigated community participants' information seeking practices. This study provides insights into community-based CIS behavior. The findings will help us understand social interactions among community members during their information seeking process.展开更多

One of eChina - UK projects in collaboration between universities from both sides is designed to develop virtual learning community ( VLC) among in-service teachers and explore from pedagogic perspective how to conduct VLC. In accordance with reflective learning and collaborative learning, three online learning modules have been jointly created by Chinese and UK educational specialists, and one unit from each module has been piloted by a group of senior teachers. Through analyzing the processes of course design and pilot, supported by quantitative and qualitative research into the experiences of pilot participants, the paper identifies some core factors influencing the quality of VLC and suggests that more attention should be given to the interactive learning process within VLC rather than to create well-structured learning materials before hand. It has also analyzed VLC as a promising approach to support professional development of in-service teachers from the perspective of continuous improvement process. There is much to be researched into the approach of VLC.展开更多
