The Improvement of Writing Teaching for English Major and the Intervention of Culture in Chinese Universities

The new era context puts forward new requirements for the writing teaching for English majors in Chinese universities,and the intervention of culture has become a necessary content of writing teaching.Combined with the shortcomings of English writing teaching in universities in China,based on the analysis of the positive significance of cultural intervention in writing teaching,this paper focuses on the basic strategies of cultural intervention,that is,to clarify the cultural implication behind the complicated English vocabulary;collect relevant cultural materials according to the teaching content of writing class;for the idioms often used in writing,compare the cultural differences between China and the West.Cultural intervention contributes to the improvement of writing teaching,but it could not become the main content of writing teaching.Mastering the writing methods and skills of various styles is still the main goal of writing teaching.

The Research of English Writing Teaching Based on Mind Mapping

It is widely acknowledged that writing not only has a significant role to play in English teaching,but also is an effective way to reflect students’English comprehensive ability.In recent years,more and more scholars have been exploring various new teaching methods of writing.However,currently,there are still some problems existing in English writing teaching,and the teaching performance is not satisfactory.Therefore,it is urgent for teachers to find a new teaching method to improve this situation in the English writing teaching.In recent years,the studies on mind mapping have been conducted in many different areas.However,there are still few studies on mind mapping in English writing teaching.This study uses literature analysis,and comparative analysis to explore how to apply mind mapping to English writing teaching.The purpose of this study is to explore whether applying mind mapping to the English writing teaching is beneficial for improving students’English writing level,at the same time,to provide a feasible method to make the current situation of the English writing teaching improved and some useful suggestions for further teaching and research.

A Tentative Exploration of College English Writing Teaching with the Ge⁃neric Approach of Sydney School

This research proposal focuses on a tentative exploration of teaching procedures for college English writing with the ge-neric approach of Sydney School.This research will mainly adopt a qualitative research methodology,which aims to figure out the contextual configuration and generic structural potential as well as the register of a specific genre and assist students to write arti-cles of the target genre through teaching procedures like deconstruction,joint construction,and independent construction.

A Research on CALL-Based POA in English Writing Teaching

The combination of production-oriented approach(POA)and modern computer technology makes English learning and teaching more convenient and efficient.This research combines the computer-assisted language learning(CALL)mode with POA to form the online and offline hybrid teaching mode,aiming to provide a reference for English teachers.

Using the Process Approach to Teach English Writing to Vocational Students

Based on an analysis of current English writing and teaching conditions in vocational institutes,it is proposed that the methods used to teach English writing should be changed to a process oriented approach.In the planning,drafting,revising,and post-writing stages,students are fully involved in the process of monitoring their own and the written works of others through a series of cooperative activities among the students and guiding activities directed by the teacher.As a result,in the process of cooperative discussions aimed at identifying and resolving problems,their writing habits will be improved,their interest in English writing will be stimulated,and their research and writing skills will be further developed.

Study on Freshmen’Metacognitive Knowledge of Business English-Majors in English Writing

Based on the investigation of freshmen’metacognitive knowledge of business English-majors in English writing,the results show that:(1)the metacognitive subject knowledge of business English freshmen is at the middle level,the metacognitive task knowledge is at a high level,the strategy of seeking teachers'help is at a high level,and the use of other strategies is at a middle or lower level;(2)There is no significant differences between high and low group learners in their views on Chinese writing level and in their strategies of seeking help from classmates;(3)Multiple regression analysis shows that the main factors affecting English writing achievement are the views on writing standard,the utilization of strategies in writing process and strategies of seeking help from teachers.

TEACHING WRITING IN THE COLLEGE ENGLISH CLASSROOM

Introduction College English Language Teaching (CELT) is a special term for teaching English to non-English major students in Chinese universities. Nowadays in CELT, more and more attention is being paid to writing. This trend seems to have been reinforced by the inclusion of a writing test in the National College English Test, which has great influence on CELT in China. However, because of time limitations on CELT courses, usually four or five hours a week, it is quite impossible to plan a specific writing course. As a result, it has to be integrated into other courses-in most cases into reading courses. In Chongqing University (Chongda), for instance, writing is included in Intensive Reading. Although writing is combined with other English courses, it has not been fully integrated. In other words, the course including writing is divided into two parts which have nothing at all to do with each other.
