On the relationship between college English teachers＇ beliefs and their teaching behaviors

Based on the questionnaires and interviews on 19 college English teachers of a university in Beijing, the paper discusses college English teachers＇ beliefs. Through the analysis of research results, the paper focuses on the following questions： （1） What are the core beliefs of college English teachers？ （2） What influence will the teachers＇ beliefs exert on teaching behaviors？ （3） Will the teachers＇ beliefs change？ If the answer is YES, how will they change and what is the source of the changes？ The exploratory results and findings can help college English teachers realize the importance of teachers＇ beliefs, through which can help them improve their teaching practices and foster their professional development.

The Formation of Ideal Interactions Between Teachers and Students in the College English Teaching

Ideal interactions between teachers and students are indispensible for the improvement of the College English teaching.Therefore,this paper tries to find out some effective measures to establish ideal interactions between teachers and students in College English teaching based on the analysis of the status-quo of the interactions between teachers and students and the emphasis of the necessity of ideal interactions between teachers and students,hoping it can be beneficial to promoting the College English teaching.

A Survey on the Evaluation Literacy of College English Teachers Under the Online Teaching Mode

Under the online teaching model,the evaluation literacy of college English teachers has become one of the critical factors affecting students’learning effects[1].This study uses a self-compiled questionnaire to investigate the current status of evaluation literacy of college English teachers under the online teaching model from four aspects:evaluation awareness,evaluation knowledge,evaluation ability,and evaluation ethics.The results show that college English teachers’overall evaluation literacy level is relatively high,but there are areas for improvement.Based on the survey results,suggestions are put forward to improve teachers’evaluation literacy,such as changing teaching concepts and increasing self-reflection;strengthening training and learning to enhance professional development awareness;conducting cooperative research and emphasizing team strengths.

Reflecting Teaching——An Effective Strategy of College English Teachers' Autonomous Development

ESL pre-service teachers＇ views of Teaching Practice supervision and assessment in Nigeria

This paper suggests that English as a Second Language （ESL） pre-service teachers＇ views and opinions about Teaching Practices be used by faculty to make TP more effective and interesting for the professional development of teachers. The main objective was to study the motivational dimensions of Teaching Practice （TP）, analyze trainees perception of the strength of their content courses （knowledge base） and pedagogy programme （psychology, teaching methods）, and investigate the quality of TP orientation program supervision and assessment by faculty （teacher trainers）. A survey was carried out to determine procedures and processes for minimizing anxieties and fears concerning TP and the relationship between faculty and trainees, mentoring and monitoring procedures, the giving of feedback and utilization of the views of students. Questionnaires were used to obtain information on the content courses or subjects which students found difficult, irrelevant or not adequately taught, what faculty should do to make TP experience better and rewarding to make them become professional teachers. Participants in the study found pedagogy courses relevant to their training and quite enjoyable. They also acknowledge that the courses help them to develop learner centered instructional skills and competence in classroom management. On the contrary, participants confessed they were weak in grammar and spoken English because these were not adequately taught, they also limited exposure to reading and writing. Focused group discussion with students revealed that TP Orientation Programs were too crowded and ill-organized to meet their needs and reduce their anxiety. The points of focus of the orientation-dress code, comportment in schools-were not as crucial as some issues-mentoring, relationship between faculty and students-which were left out. Respondents rated TP supervision and assessment very low because of inadequacies in the number of visits, lack of feedback and low level interaction with their trainers. Some of the students used peer interaction, self-development and self-study skills to improve their skills and cope with TP. The results suggest that knowledge base of students in ESL courses need to be strengthened and enriched. Orientation program should be geared towards trainee＇s needs. Also supervision and assessment require a lot of improvement while faculty should give prompt feedback and utilize trainees＇ opinions and views for meeting students＇ needs and improving TP.

Exploration and Thinking of teaching supervision in higher vocational colleges

The teaching supervision of higher vocational colleges play a role of supervision and guidance in the teaching activities and teaching quality of higher vocational colleges.At present,there are many kind of teaching activities,many kind of educational policy and many kind of objectives are proposed in teaching quality of higher vocational colleges.So that many kind of innovation challenges and development opportunities are waiting for.Consequently,the adjustment of the vocational college teaching supervision work should be kept with the variable times.The specific process can be shown as follows:Firstly,the guidance idea of the teaching supervision should be adjusted;Secondly,weaken the supervision function,strengthen the guidance function;Thirdly,improve and promote the construction of the teaching supervision work team and system construction on and on;fourthly,the important role in teaching should be played by student in order to improve the teaching supervision work efficiency,etc.In summary,higher vocational colleges will be played a new role of teaching supervision work and opened up some new ways through above.

Transfer of University English Teacher Roles in the Web-based Teaching Environment

At present, one of the important tasks of the ongoing college English teaching reform is to reform the traditional teaching mode,establishing the computer-based multimedia English teaching model. An Analysis of Teacher Talk in College English Classroom from the Perspective of Relevance Theory

In the classroom interactive teaching activities, the problem posed by teachers is teacher′s utterance. Teacher talk is notonly a tool for teachers to implement teaching plans, but also determine the success or failure of classroom teaching, so it has beenthe focus of language teaching research for many years. In the process of classroom communication, teachers′discourse cannot bewell understood, sometimes the questions raised can not induce students′timely, relevant and clear answers, leading to communica-tion failure. How to make teachers′discourse more understandable and how to successfully put forward the principles of explicit-ness, relevance and the acquisition of contextual effects of relevance theory has a good explanatory power for some phenomena ofclassroom communication in foreign language teaching. According to the basic idea of Relevance Theory, through the analysis ofteachers′discourse examples, we can find the theoretical basis for successful classroom questioning.

Teacher Talk Code-switching in College English Teaching Classroom

Code-switching is considered as a strategy of cognition, interaction and teaching. Foreign language teachers often use code-switching as a skill of pedagogy to teach students to learn foreign language and promote their own teaching practice. Evidence shows that the proper sue of code-switching will promote English teaching practice, however, it is arguable that how to use native language to improve English teaching. This paper will discuss code-switching in Chinese English teaching with the SLA theories and put forward some guidance to teacher talk code-switching.
