The180 mm aperture hyperboloidal concave mirror and 70 mm aperture compensator are machined directly from chemical mechanical polishing of a spherical surface to a high-accuracy aspherical surface by ion beam figuring. The aspherical measurement method is the Dall null test. The special hexapod provides six degrees of freedom(6-DOFs) with decoupled translation and rotation. The decoupled kinematic motions are analyzed and commented on as the alignment mechanism of a secondary mirror from an optical alignment point of view. In terms of performance of the adjustment generally required by the secondary mirror in a telescope, we developed a prototype that uses a novel hexapod design with linear micro-displacement actuators. Especially, in order to achieve high precision, flexures were used to build joints for the hexapod to minimize frictions and eliminate backlashes. Based on the specific configuration and dimension of the prototype hexapod,an analytical model of the reachable workspace was built with the constraints defined by limited rotation angles of the flexure-based joints. We used a laser tracker to verify that the hexapod can reach a spherical translation workspace of φ6 mm and a rotation workspace of±1°. The translational repeatability was tested to be around half a μm by laser displacement sensors. In addition, we also measured the axial and lateral stiffnesses of the hexapod to be around 5500 N mm-^1 and 1750 N mm^-1, respectively. The kinematic analyses and convincing test results jointly encourage implementing the novel hexapod design with decoupled translation and rotation as a favorable alignment mechanism for secondary mirrors in astronomical telescopes.展开更多

Two spectral datasets(set A and B) from near-ultraviolet(NUV) to the optical band were constructed with 44 International Ultraviolet Explorer(IUE) standards, because of the LUT's relatively wide wavelength coverage. Set A was obtained by extrapolating the IUE NUV spectra(λ 〈 3200 ) to the optical band based upon the theoretical spectra of stellar atmosphere models. Set B was composed of theoretical spectra from 2000 to 8000 extracted from the same model grid. In total, seven standards have been observed in15 observational runs until May 2014. The calibration results show that the photometric performance of LUT is highly stable in its first six months of operation. The magnitude zero points obtained from the two spectral datasets are also consistent with each other, i.e., zp = 17.54 ± 0.09 mag(set A) and zp = 17.52 ± 0.07 mag(set B).展开更多

The shortcoming is that those measurements could only be done at a limited elevation angle due to the satellite’s relatively stationary state. This paper proposed a new wideband microwave holographic measurement method based on radio sources to achieve full-elevation-angle measurement with small size reference antenna. In theoretical derivation, the time delay and phase change due to path length and device difference between the antenna under test and reference antenna are compensated first. Then the correct method of wideband holography effect, which is because of antenna pattern differing under different wavelengths when receiving a wideband signal, is presented. To verify the proposed methodology, a wideband microwave holographic measurement system is established, the data processing procedure is illustrated, and the reflector surface measurement experiments on a 40 m radio telescope at different elevation angles are conducted. The result shows that the primary reflector surface root-mean-square at around elevation angles of 28°, 44°, 49°, and 75° are respectively 0.213 mm, 0.170 mm, 0.188 mm, and 0.199 mm. It is basically consistent with the real data, indicating that the proposed wideband microwave holography methodology is feasible.展开更多

Three sets of filters are installed in a dual layer filterwheel that use Johnson-Cousins UBVRI, Sloan Digital Sky Survey u′g′r′i′z′ and Stomgren uvby. The photometric system and the CCD camera are introduced, followed by detailed analysis of their performances, and determination of the relevant parameters, including gain, readout noise, dark current and linearity of the CCD cam- era. In addition, the parameters describing the site's astro-climate, including typical seeing, statistics on the number of clear nights and average sky brightness, based on data gathered from Sep. 2007 to Aug. 2013, are systematically studied and reported in this work. Photometric calibrations were done using Landolt standard star obser- vations spanning eight nights, which yielded transformation coefficients, photometric precision and system throughput. The limiting magnitudes are simulated using the derived calibration parameters and classic observation conditions at WHO.展开更多

Calculations of the vignetting of LAMOST, a special reflecting Schmidt telescope, are made by ray-tracing methods. The results show various features due to LAMOST's structure and observing modes. The un-vignetted field is small compared with its field of view. In the outmost portions of the field vignetting in- creases rapidly with the distance to the field center. The vignetting at a general position within the field of view is a function of both its distance to the field center and its position angle. Vignetting varies when the telescope points at different declinations and during observations. There is difference in vignetting between direct imaging and multi-fiber spectroscopy. Vignetting distorts the relative intensity of celestial objects at different positions in a field and also affects accurate sky-estimation and sky-subtraction. The determined vignetting functions may be used to correct the vignetting effect; alternatively flat-fielding may be adopted for the calibration. The effective apertures, which affect the signal-to-noise ratio of the observations, depend on the different declinations the telescope is pointing at and also different positions within a field due to vignetting.展开更多

The rail surface unevenness includes information on error arising from two different scales, i.e., the long-period- short-change and the short-period-long-change. Consequently, in this study an idea of a mixed model was proposed, in which trigonometric and fractal functions were, respectively, used to describe infor- mation on error from two scales. Key parameters were determined by using the least squares method and the wavelet transform method, and finally, a specific mathematical expression of the model was obtained by optimization. To validate the effectiveness of the new modeling method, the mixed model was then used to describe the rails of the Green Bank Telescope, the Large Millimeter Telescope, and a radio telescope in Miyun, Beijing. A comparative study revealed that the maximum error was less than 15 %, thus the result was superior to those of existing modeling methods.展开更多

文摘In the first part of this paper, four different Cassegrain optical systems with their correctors are designed and studied for multi-object fiber slit spectroscopic survey. The aperture in 6.5 m and field of view 3°are taken for these optical systems.Assuming observation wavelength range is 0.365-0.95μm,the maximum zenith distance for observing is 60°,the maximum diameter of these lenses is 1.66 m,the altitude of the telescope site is 2500 m,two correctors are composed of 4-piece lenses and the other two are 5-piece lenses. The results obtained are:f-ratio about 3.7,the image quality for all four systems with EE80D≤0.60″,the linear diameter of the focal surface is about 1.2 m and 11 000 fibers can be set on it.Considering the limit of size of fused silica and optical glass, the maximum diameter for lens is about 1.7 m.Such a 6.5 m telescope is about the largest one if using the above correctors.Considering the multiobject spectroscopic survey is greatly important,we also studied some telescope optical systems having their aperture near or larger than 10 m used for the multi-object fiber spectroscopic survey.Such ideas are introduced in the last section of this paper.

文摘Most reflector surface holographic measurements of a large radio telescope utilize a geostationary satellite as the signal source. It is basically consistent with the real data, indicating that the proposed wideband microwave holography methodology is feasible.

文摘The one-meter telescope at Weihai Observatory (WHO) of Shandong University is an f/8 Cassegrain telescope. The limiting magnitudes are simulated using the derived calibration parameters and classic observation conditions at WHO.

文摘A tilt-correction adaptive optical system installed on the 430 mm Solar Telescope of Nanjing University has been put in operation. It consists of a tip-tilt mirror, a correlation tracker and an imaging CCD camera. An absolute difference algorithm is used for detecting image motion in the correlation tracker. The sampling frequency of the system is 419 Hz. We give a description of the system's configuration, an analysis of its performance and a report of our observational results. A residual jitter of 0.14 arcsec has been achieved. The error rejection bandwidth of the system can be adjusted in the range 5-28 Hz according to the beacon size and the strength of atmospheric turbulence.

文摘Antarctic Survey Telescopes(AST3) are designed to be fully robotic telescopes at Dome A,Antarctica, which aim for highly efficient time-domain sky surveys as well as rapid response to special transient events(e.g.,gamma-ray bursts,near-Earth asteroids,supernovae,etc.).Unlike traditional observations,a well-designed real-time survey scheduler is needed in order to implement an automatic survey in a very efficient, reliable and flexible way for the unattended telescopes. We present a study of the survey strategy for AST3 and implementation of its survey scheduler, which is also useful for other survey projects.

文摘The self-weight of a large fully-steerable radio telescope is one of the important factors affecting its performance. In the existing reflector system scheme, the problem of surface accuracy caused by its large and heavy structure has seriously restricted the application and implementation of large radio telescopes. Therefore,a new mesh structure scheme for a large fully-steerable radio telescope reflector is proposed in this paper. This scheme is based on a homogenized mesh back-up structure in the form of a quasi-geodesic grid and regular quasi-tri-prism or tetrahedron, which can significantly reduce the structural complexity and self-weight of the reflector under the condition that the reflector can meet the desired performance requirements. Finally, the feasibility and rationality of the scheme are evaluated by numerical simulation analysis, which has significant advantages and provides a new design for the reflector of a large fullysteerable radio telescope.

文摘Flat-field reflects the non-uniformity of the photometric response at the focal plane of an instrument, which uses digital image sensors, such as Charge Coupled Device(CCD)and Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor(CMOS).This non-uniformity must be corrected before being used for scientific research. In this paper,we assess various candidate methods via simulation using available data so as to figure the in-flight flat-field calibration methodology for the Lyman-alpha Solar Telescope(LST).LST is one of the payloads for the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory(ASO-S)mission and consists of three instruments:a White-light Solar Telescope(WST),a Solar Disk Imager(SDI)and a dual-waveband Solar Corona Imager(SCI).In our simulations, data fromthe Helioseismic andMagnetic Imager(HMI)and Atmospheric Imaging Assembly(AIA)onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory(SDO)mission are used. Our results show that the normal KLL method is appropriate for in-flight flat-field calibration of WST and implementing a transmissive diffuser is applicable for SCI.For the in-flight flat-field calibration of SDI,we recommend the KLL method with off-pointing images with defocused resolution of around 18′′,and use the local correlation tracking(LCT)algorithm instead of limb-fitting to determine the relative displacements between different images.
文摘Optical vignetting of a Schmidt reflector is caused mainly by the spherical primary mirror not being big enough and by the effective light-collecting area of the corrector, which depends on the direction of the star light. The effective apertures, which affect the signal-to-noise ratio of the observations, depend on the different declinations the telescope is pointing at and also different positions within a field due to vignetting.

文摘This study proposed a coarse-fine mixed model for describing the rail surface unevenness of an ultra-large fully steerable radio telescope (Qi Tai Telescope) with a diameter of 110 meters. A comparative study revealed that the maximum error was less than 15 %, thus the result was superior to those of existing modeling methods.

文摘In order to ensure the normal operation of radio astronomy observations,an extremely sensitive receiver system needs to be equipped in front of the large radio telescope. An 8-pole wideband high-temperature superconducting(HTS)filter using a Coplanar Spiral Resonator Structure with a passband of 1160~1670 MHz is developed to suppress strong radio interference. The filter is fabricated on a 36 mm×14 mm YBCO HTS film, which is deposited on a 0.5 mm thick MgO substrate. The minimum insertion loss measured in the liquid nitrogen temperature region is 0.03 dB,and the first parasitic passband appears at 2600 MHz.The measured results are in good agreement with the simulations. The filter can be used in radio telescope receivers for the observation of neutral hydrogen and pulsars,as well as in high-sensitivity satellite navigation instruments.
