An expansion theory of spherical cavities in strain-softening materials with different moduli of tension and com-pression was presented. For geomaterials, two controlling parameters were introduced to take into account the different moduli and strain-softening properties. By means of elastic theory with different moduli and stress-softening models, general solutions cal-culating Tresca and Mohr-Coulomb materials' stress and displacement fields of expansion of spherical cavity were derived. The effects caused by different elastic moduli in tensile and compression and strain-softening rates on stress and displacement fields and development of plastic zone of expansion of cavity were analyzed. The results show that the ultimate expansion pressure, stress and displacement fields and development of plastic zone vary with the different elastic moduli and strain-softening prop-erties. If classical elastic theory is adopted and strain-softening properties are neglected, rather large errors may be the result. 展开更多

Reducing the yield asymmetry is very important concern for wrought Mg-Li alloys. In this study,Mg-5Li-3Al-2 Zn(LAZ532)alloy was successfully produced by hot-extrusion followed by multi-pass rolling at 573 K.Microstructure evolution, mechanical properties and yield asymmetry reducing of LAZ532 alloys at different rolling passes were studied.By observing microstructure using transmission electron microscopy showed that a small amount of ultra-fine Al Mg_(4)Zn_(11)and nano Li_(3)Al_(2) phases existed in the alloy. With the increasing of rolling passes, the grains of the alloys were obviously refined, and comprehensive mechanical properties were dramatically improved.Meanwhile,it also showed an excellent tension and compression yield symmetry(TYS/CYS was about 1).The results showed that the combined action of the weak{0001}basal lamellar texture, grain refinement and addition of Li element could effectively improve the yield symmetry.Furthermore, based on theoretical analysis, the yield strength in the alloys mainly depended on the strengthening contributions of LAGBs and HAGBs,and strengthening effect of HAGBs most(~50%)to the yield strength improvement. 展开更多

The problem of seismic response of buried pipeline aimed at the interaction of soil around the pipeline and the complicated calculation model was considered, and the various simplified finite element model was calculated, and it was analyzed. Firstly, the ADINA finite element analysis software was used. The four nodes in shell unit were used by tube. The spring unit was used by soil spring. The analysis model of buried pipeline finite element numerical based on tension and compression spring was established. Seismic wave was input. The response to the simple boundary, viscoelastic boundary earthquake were calculated and analyzed by the finite element numerical simulation. The pipeline’s earthquake ground motion response was obtained, and was compared with the real soil model, and the most suitable simplified calculation model for numerical analysis of buried pipeline was found, which was the numerical analysis model of buried pipeline pressure spring tension finite element based on the viscoelastic boundary, and the theory basis for the seismic design of pipeline was provided. 展开更多

By adding copper to increase the performance, the Ni-Ti-Cu Shape Memory Alloy(SMA),has been widely used in the field of engineering in recent years.A thermodynamic constitutive model for Ni-Ti-Cu SMA considering different copper contents is established in this work.Numerical results for two different copper contents,as examples, are compared with the experimental results to verify the accuracy of the theoretical work.Based on the verified constitutive model, the effects of different copper content on the mechanical properties of Ni-Ti-Cu SMA and the tensile and compressive asymmetric properties of Ni-Ti-Cu SMA are finally discussed, respectively. 展开更多

For statically indeterminate structure, the internal force will be changed with the translation of the supports, because the internal force is related to the absolute value of the stiffness EI. When the tension is different with the compression modulus, EI is the function of internal force and is not constant any more that is different from classic mechanics. In the other words, it is a nonlinear problem to calculate the internal force. The expression for neutral axis of the statically indeterminate structure was derived in the paper. The iterative program for nonlinear internal force was compiled. One case study was presented to illustrate the difference between the results using the different modulus theory and the single modulus theory as in classical mechanics. Finally, some reasonable suggestions were made for the different modulus structures. 展开更多

During the installation of a pipe pile, the soil around the pile will be squeezed out. This paper deals with this squeezing effect of open-ended pipe piles using the cylindrical cavity expansion theory. The characteristics of soil with different tension and compression moduli and dilation are involved by applying the elastic theory with different moduli and logarithmic strain. The closed-form solutions of the radius of the plastic region, the displacement of the boundary between the plastic region and the elastic region and the expansion pressure on the external surface of the pipe piles are obtained. When obtaining these solutions, the soil plug in the open-ended pipe pile is considered by employing an incremental filling ratio to quantify the degree of soil plugging. Moreover, the effects of the ratio of tension and compression moduli, angle of dilation and incremental filling ratio on the radius of the plastic region and the expansion pressure on the external surface of the pipe pile are investigated. The parametric analyses show that it is necessary and important to consider the difference between the tension modulus and compression modulus, dilation angle and incremental filling ratio for studying the squeezing effect of open-ended pipe pile installation. It is concluded that the analytical solutions presented in this paper are suitable for studying the squeezing effect of open-ended pipe piles. 展开更多
