To prevent the environment from polluting, the request of emissions control legislation becomes more stringent. New legislation prescribes not only the emissions limitation of vehicles, but also testing instruments and methods. Test car must be operated on the chassis dynamometer and data must be collect ed and analyzed with prescriptive exhaust analysis system as well. The mass of harmful exhaust gas, containing the concentration and volume of emis sion, which is independent from the model of automobile and engine, can be used as a criterion to evaluate the pollution of an automobile. Constant Volume Sampl e System (CVS) is used to measure vehicle emissions, but it is too expensive to apply extensively. The Vehicle Mass Analysis System(Vmas), a new vehicle exhaust mass analysis system produced in USA late 1990s,is used to test and analyze veh icle exhaust. As a test instrument, it has the virtue of cheapness and easy mana geability. In this paper, Vmas is used to measure the emissions of a light truck CA1020F. A ccording to 15 running modes of Vehicle Exhaust Legislation, the test car is ope rated on the chassis dynamometer and data are collected and analyzed with Vmas. The test results show that it is viable to measure and evaluate automobile emiss ion with Vmas. Most of HC exhaust is produced when the car is decelerating. The major factor that influences the mass of HC emission is the sudden decrease of e ngine load causing incomplete combustion in decelerating mode. Test results indi cate CO and NOx are mainly produced in the process of increasing load. The forme r reason is incomplete combustion and the latter is high burning temperature cau sed by the increasing load. The methods of reducing automobile emission are also discussed in this paper.展开更多

Based on the experimental results of intact Brazilian disc of rock-like material, a set of micro-parameters in PFC2D that reflected the macro-mechanical behavior of rock-like materials were obtained. And then PFC2D was used to simulate Brazilian splitting test for jointed rock mass specimens and specimen containing a central straight notch. The effect of joint angle and notch angle on the tensile strength and failure mode of jointed rock specimens was detailed analyzed. In order to reveal the meso-mechanical mechanism of crack coalescence, displacement trend lines were applied to analyze the displacement evolution during the crack initiation and propagation. The investigated conclusions can be described as follows. (1) The tensile strength of jointed rock mass disc specimen is dependent to the joint angle. As the joint angle increases, the tensile strength of jointed rock specimen takes on a nonlinear variance. (2) The tensile strength of jointed rock mass disc specimen containing a central straight notch distributes as a function of both joint angle and notch angle. (3) Three major failure modes, i.e., pure tensile failure, shear failure and mixed tension and shear failure mode are observed in jointed rock mass disc specimens under Brazilian test. (4) The notch angle roles on crack initiation and and joint angle play important propagation characteristics of jointed rock mass disc specimen containing a central straight notch under Brazilian test.展开更多

It is derived from the hybrid finite element model based on the principles of virtual work. The outstanding advantage of this element is to use more rational trial functions of the displacements. For this reason, every variety of plate deformation can be simulated really whilc the least degrees of freedom is employed.A wide range of numerical tests was conducted and the results illustrate that this element has a very wide application scope to the thickness of plates and satisfactory accuracy can be obtained by coarse mesh for all kinds of examples.展开更多

In China, more than 90% of service expressways are asphalt pavement. However, current asphalt pavement design method still has irrationality. Even though maximum tensile stress theory is used as failure criterion, pavement structure under the effects of wheel load is in three-dimensional complex stress state. Obviously, one-dimensional strength theory cannot reflect the failure characteristics and the resistance of pavement structure. So it is necessary to study the failure criterion of asphalt mixture under three-dimensional com- plex stress state. Due to limitations of test equipment, there are almost no studies in related area. Under this background, this paper develops a new triaxial test method, ac- cording to the investigation of strength characteristics of asphalt mixture under complex stress state through plane isobaric/axial tensile test, plane isobaric/axial compression test, plane tensile and compression/axial tensile test, to reveal the general rules of asphalt mixture's strength failure. The failure mode is divided into three types: tensile failure, shear failure and rheological failure. The tensile meridian and compression meridian in the stress space and strength envelope in the π plane where hydrostatic pressure is greater than zero are obtained, and the failure criterion of asphalt mixture under complex stress state is established, providing theoretical method and scientific basis for structure design as well as strength check of asphalt pavement under three-dimensional stress state.展开更多
