A Descriptive Translation Study of Chinese Translation of French Musical Roméo et Juliette

This paper presents a Descriptive Translation Study(DTS)analysis of the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet,titled Roméo et Juliette:de la Haineàl’Amour.Romeo and Juliet,a timeless play by Shakespeare,has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1597 and has been adapted into various forms,including stage productions,films,musicals,and operas.The focus of this study is to analyze the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation from a DTS perspective.DTS is an approach that aims to understand the translation process and its reception in the target culture.By examining language choices,cultural references,and adaptation strategies,this study seeks to shed light on how the Chinese translation of the French musical functions within the target culture and influences the reception and interpretation of the source text.This analysis is expected to gain insights into the challenges and strategies employed in translating a musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet into Chinese.The findings of this study will contribute to the field of translation studies and provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in the translation of musical works.

The Harmony of Eco-translation in Chinese Version of“Of Studies”

A study on Eco-translatology starting at the beginning of the 2000 s aims at studying the harmony and unity between a translator and eco-translation. It requires translators to acclimatize themselves to translating ecosystem so that their translation as adaptation and selection may follow the dynamic variation of eco-translatology, which is the prerequisite for the balance between the original text and the version, the translator and the writer, the translator and readers, the culture of the original language and the target language. This paper shows the harmony of eco-translation by analyzing Wang Zuoliang's translation of Of Studies in light of eco-translatology.

Research on English Translation of Chinese Literary Terms from the Perspective of International Communication: Interpretation and Standardization

Literary terms are the crystallization of Chinese ideology and wisdom. Translation and communication function as an important link in the construction of the discourse system with Chinese characteristics. Standardized translation of literary terms is an important way to help the world understand China and promote international communication of Chinese culture, which is conducive to the inheritance and interpretation of fine traditional Chinese culture. From the perspective of the "going global" strategy of Chinese culture in the new era, and the existing asymmetry of English translation of Chinese literary terms in international cultural communication, we analyzed the divergence, variation and imposed interpretation of the translations of Chinese literary terms and put forward some suggestions for their standardization. We believe that the translation of Chinese literary terms should adhere to the principle of "localization" in cultural communication and focus on the transmission of Chinese cultural connotation to correct the imposed interpretations of Chinese literature in the West. Standardizing the translations of literary terms will facilitate the communication of "Chinese knowledge" to the world. The paper is expected to provide reference for research on construction and enhancement of discourse system for global communication with Chinese characteristics.

国外翻译理论著述汉译中的失范现象探析——以The Scandals of Translation汉译本为例

关于翻译质量的论述是当下国内外译学热点话题之一。与此同时,对于翻译研究自身著述的翻译质量,译学却鲜有论及。本文以The Scandals of Translation汉译本为例,通过对The Scandals of Translation汉译本进行抽样和比较研究,辅以问卷调查,兼顾翻译产品与翻译过程,基于翻译规范理论探析责任规范、交际规范和关系规范方面的失范现象。本文认为,为了保障国外翻译理论著作的汉译质量,译者需要增强翻译规范意识,认真履行翻译责任,尽力促进交际的成功,合理构建译文和原文的关系。

A Study of the Translation of Chinese Idioms from Selected Works of Mao Zedong

Based on the bilingual corpus of Selected Works of Mao Zedong from Shaoxing University,this paper intended to study the English Translation of Chinese Idioms of the anthology.By comparing the translation of the idioms in different contexts,this paper analyzes the factors influencing Chinese-to-English translation,discusses the methods and strategies for translating Chinese idioms into English,and summarizes innovative conclusions.In addition to improving English proficiency,the process can enhance the learning quality of Chinese and English,translation capability,English-Chinese comparative research ability,and benefit the spreading of time-honored Chinese culture.

The Dissemination, Influence, and Reception of the Modern Western Translation Theories in China

Modern Western translation theories have exerted a great influence upon the Chinese translation fields. The author of the present paper believes that science has no boundaries and nationality. It is advisable and necessary to learn and absorb what we do not know and then make the best use of the knowledge. The author tries to analyze what the western translation theories have brought to us, the advantages and disadvantage of them, and finally put forward the possible attitude we may take to the western translation theories.

An Analysis of the Position of Chinese Translation Study

Since the Polysystem theory was brought in, domestic researchers have carried out many studies on the availability and shortcomings of the theory. Some scholars use it as the framework to make descriptive studies. Based on the Polysystem theory, this paper describes and analyzes the position of Chinese translation study in the polysystem of Chinese culture and the world 's transla?tion study. Although the position of both translation and translation study has ever changed over a certain period of time, Chinese translation study has maintained a peripheral position for a long time. It can learn from the development experience of western translation studies to improve the situation. What's more, it should not ignore the influence of power system and ideology system. And to carry out translation studies in China, especially cultural studies on translation can help to make China's translation studies more central.

Retrospection and Reflection on the Role of Henry C.Lu as a Traditional Chinese Medicine Writer,Educator,and Translator

This paper respectfully commemorates the life of Dr.Henry C.Lu(1936-2022),who was the founding president of International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Vancouver.Dr.Lu was an active educator,a prolific writer and translator of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in the West and an influential figure during the initial stage of the international dissemination of TCM.By comprehensively searching,referencing,and cross-validating the literature,this article reviewed Dr.Lu’s major life events,bibliography,and,most importantly,his contribution to TCM education and translation.Dr.Lu should be given more credit for his achievements,and further studies are needed in future.

Chinese Translation of International Trade Terms--A Corpus Based Study

Being widely used in global trade,the translation of international trade terms is necessary.Major procedures in this article are as following:(1)collecting 750 international trade terms and their Chinese translations from dictionaries,journals and official websites related to international trade terms;(2)using Tmxmall to align the international trade terms and their Chinese translation to build a parallel corpus;(3)selecting 120 out of the 750 international trade terms through random sampling;(4)classifying the international trade terms into four types through POS-tagging in CLAWS5;(5)basing on the functional equivalence and summarizing the main translation methods of international trade terms.The result shows literal translation,free translation and combination of literal and free translation employed in the Chinese translation of international trade terms.

The Comparative Study of Two Translated Texts on Huangdirent Translating Styles o'n s Internal Classics——Simple Analysis on the Diffe Culture-Specific Lexicon, Figure of Speech and Four-Chinese-Character Structures

Huangdi's Internal Classics(Neijin) is one of the most important ancient medical classics, which plays far-reaching influence in medical field. More and more domestic and overseas scholars published their translated texts on Neijing. Due to the diversity of editions and different understanding, the translating styles and contents are widely different. This study will focus on the different translating styles on culture-specific lexicon、figure of speech and four-Chinese-character structures in Neijin.

A Historical Review of Robert van Gulik and His Judge Dee Mysteries in Chinese World （1996-2016）

Judge Dee Mysteries was written by a Dutch diplomat and orientalist Robert van Gulik, and has been translated into more than twenty languages, gaining a wide attention with the honorary title of ＂Orienta/Sherlock Holmes＂ in English world. It returned to China with Chen Laiyuan and Hu Ming＇s translations in 1980s, and since then there emerged various studies by Chinese scholars on Robert van Gulik and his works. This article makes a historical review of Judge Dee Mysteries in Chinese world during the past 20 years, presents problems in translating and introducing Robert van Gulik in Chinese, and proposes comments and suggestions for further translation and studies of Judge Dee Mysteries in a comparison with Chinese gong＇an fictions.

On the Initiative of Chinese Culture "Going Out"

The cultural turn has ushered translation studies into a new era with a much broader view and brought about more research approaches for translators and theorists in western countries. This paper mainly discusses successful attempts of Chinese writings translated and accepted in the West,difficulties for Chinese cultur"e going out"and suggestions for how to press ahead the" going out"initiative for Chinese Culture.

在图尔敏论证模式下,汉语典籍议论文《劝学》论证发散、杂乱,与英语世界脍炙人口的议论文Of Studies论证模式迥异。议论文翻译可采用语篇作为翻译单位,并将其细分为翻译的转换单位和翻译的分析单位。议论文中语篇的本质是论点,转换单位和分析单位可以分别由分论点和中心论点担任。

译者惯习视角下The Chinese Maze Murders自译与他译对比研究

The Chinese Maze Murders是著名汉学家高罗佩创作的《狄公案》系列小说中的一部中长篇,也是唯一一部作者本人用中文翻译的作品。本文从译者惯习的角度,对比分析高罗佩的自译本与陈来元的译本,挖掘译者翻译行为背后的原因。本文发现,不同的译文之所以在各方面有不同的呈现,与译者的惯习息息相关,而译者惯习的形成又与其社会环境密不可分,因此,从译者惯习的角度分析翻译行为,可以发掘出社会客观因素与译者主观因素对译文的作用。

他者、杂糅与翻译:后现代视域下英汉融合双关语翻译研究

后现代思潮对异质性、互文性的强调在翻译研究中掀起了一场全方位的认知革命。解构主义、后殖民主义、女权主义翻译观使翻译研究者开始关注传统翻译互动中两种类型的“他者”:传统二元等级结构中作为弱势群体的“他者”和在二元临界地带流浪的游离性“他者”。长期以来,翻译学界对第一类“他者”给予了充分的关注,但对处于二元临界地带流浪的游离性“他者”并未引起足够的重视。作为游离性“他者”在文本层面的典型体现,英汉融合双关语这一新型杂糅文本逐渐兴起并已进入中国大众的日常生活,却并未在学界得到应有的关注。该类文本不可通约的“他者性”和“创造性”特质有利于人们重新思考翻译的定义、可译性和翻译伦理问题,为后现代翻译研究提供新的视角。

中国译论进程中的中医翻译研究:奠基、融合与应用

中医翻译研究的发展受到中国译论的影响,也是中国译学话语体系建构不可或缺的组成部分。本文以中医翻译思想为研究对象,梳理改革开放以来中医翻译思想的发展轨迹,探讨中医翻译研究与中国译论之间的关系,分析中医翻译理论研究的影响和局限性及其在中国译论进程中的作用。中医翻译研究立足实践,始于翻译技法研究,而后受到译学研究影响,完善方法论、拓展研究范围,逐渐产生中医翻译思想和理论雏形。中医翻译思想丰富了中国译论,是译学研究在中医药领域应用的产物,但中医翻译研究的理论性、系统性需进一步加强,以催生中医翻译理论、推进学科建设。

中国农学典籍英译研究:回顾与展望

作为世界农业发源地之一,中国的农耕文明在历史上长期居于世界先进水平。农业生产实践上的优势催生了大批宝贵的、种类繁多的农学文化古籍,对世界农作物种植、生产工具和技术的开发影响深远,是现今中国“文化外译”战略的重要组成部分。基于这一事实,本文将回顾我国农学典籍英译的发展历程,统计国内与农学典籍英译相关的研究论文,从发文概况、文本考察、研究主题、理论视角、期刊来源分布等方面梳理农学典籍英译的研究现状。分析发现,当前研究存在诸如译本数量少、文本考察单一、宏观研究欠缺、研究方法传统等问题。据此,本文最后对我国农学典籍的译介提出了展望与建议。

中国文学外译英美受众分析与选材研究

中国文学的海外译介和传播效果与译介学密切相关。影响中国文化文学走出去的一个重要因素就是对译入和译出翻译方向的准确把握和捕捉。目前,中国文学的英美读者大致分为从事中国现当代文学研究的专业读者,受过一定教育对文学感兴趣和对中国社会文化感兴趣的普通读者。基于英美受众分析的中国文学外译选材:语言通俗易懂,文化专有项少的作品;故事情节简洁明快的作品;主题为人类普遍问题的作品;反映中国当代与地域及民族特色文化的作品;满足英美受众现实需求的作品;兼具东西方文化特质的作品;具有创新精神的作品;修辞高超的作品;选材以小说为主,其他文学样式辅助;其他成长类、实用类文学作品;由外籍作家创作的书写中国的作品。

典籍翻译的下一步

截至2022年年初,“大中华文库”丛书已经翻译出版了112种英译中华经典著作。从某种角度来看,国内的典籍英译工作可以算告一段落。那么,除了继续开展其他语种的翻译外,我国典籍翻译的下一步应该怎么走?本文提出了4点建议,即史料整理、比较研究、拓展深入和人才培养。其中,史料整理是对典籍外译历史的考察和整理;比较研究是通过对译品的比较提高未来翻译的质量;拓展深入是指不断扩大所译典籍的范围,并持续加深对这一范围的认识与思考;人才培养则注重提高译员的中文、英文和文化知识水平,特别是中文的文言文阅读能力。在这4个方面,笔者都提出了一些具体的建议。

走向自主创新:美国诗歌在中国的百年译介与研究

美国诗歌在中国的译介与传播起于清末,在五四运动时期始成规模。本文梳理了美国诗歌自五四运动以来的百年译介与传播历史,重点清理了改革开放以来的美国诗歌译介与研究史,认为美国诗歌在中国的译介与研究经历了从20世纪上半叶的模仿与化用、20世纪末期的学习与成长、21世纪之初的借鉴与对话到新时代的中美并行与自主创新的成长之路。这一方面反映出中国在美国诗歌译介与研究方面坚持为己所用的文化传统,也反映出新时代的中国学术已然走进了文化自信与自主创新的新阶段。
