Thermal and photoperiodic requirements of the seedling stage of three tropical forest species

Air temperature and photoperiod play an important role in the seedling development for tropical forest species.Both variables are sensitive to climate,and so evaluating thermal and photoperiodic effects on seedling development is fundamental,especially for climate change studies.Methods to quantify thermal time and the energy required for plants to reach a development stage include air temperature and cardinal temperatures.The photoperiod will also affect physiological reactions of a plant and thus its development.Here we evaluated the six thermal time methods widely used to compute thermal requirement,and identified the influence of the photoperiod from the 2015 and2016 growing seasons and 12 sowing dates in Itajubá,Minas Gerais state,Brazil,on seedling development of three native tropical forest species Psidium guajava L.(Myrtaceae),Citharexylum myrianthum Cham.(Verbenaceae),and Bixa orellana L.(Bixaceae).The method used to quantify thermal time influenced the analytical results of seedling development;the one that considered three cardinal temperatures and compared them with the mean air temperature(Method5)performed better in computing thermal requirements.The influence of photoperiod on seedling development was inconclusive for the three species,but all three developed better in mild temperatures(between 13.3℃and 26.9℃)with a photoperiod shorter than 13 h.

On the Feminist Comparative Study of Views on Marriage Between the Early Nineteenth Century and Modern Times—Taking Pride and Prejudice for Example

Marriage is a theme influenced by cultural progress. Economic factor is one of the main elements that people of the early nineteenth century considered when deciding a marriage. The pursuit of economic interest results in the advent of some tragic marriages while now it is a side reason. However, women today have made great advancement in education background, employment situation and social status. Women gradually have their economic ability, autonomy and social status. Hence, they began to lay emphasis on the equality and sense of happiness. This is why the views on marriage vary in different eras. This paper, based on the view of marriage from the nineteenth- century English novel Pride and Pejudice, is dedicated to elucidating the changes and improvements of view on marriage from feminist perspective via comparing and contrasting the similarities and the differences of people's view on marriage between the early 1800 s and modern times, and then draws a conclusion that the women's degree of receptive education can influence their social status and view on marriage. In modern times the view on marriage based on equality attribute to the sense of happiness of a family and the degree of satisfaction of marriage.

Three Development Stages for the Tibetan Family and Tibet's Modernization——A Survey of Social Changes in Tibet in Last 50 Years

I Since 1990, as a person in charge of key research projects of the China Tibetology Research Center, I have had opportunities almost every year to conduct field surveys on anthropology in Tibet together with my colleagues. Our investigations focus on the family. The purpose of our surveys is to see social changes in Tibet during the 50 years after the Democratic Reform through the study of the family as a social cell.

A Research of the Finding and Distribution Law of Taisui in Modern China

The academic world is still uncertain about the classification of Taisui. It is debating whether Taisui is living or not, myxomycete complex or fungi. The passage studies the 228 finding reports of Taisui in modern China. It confirms that the first finding time of Taisui in modern China is 1963, and the first reported time is 1992. Taisui has been found in 25 administrative divisions. Taisui occurs the most times in Shandong Province. Besides, provinces where Taisui has been found most times are in northern China. Finding locations of Taisui vary from place to place. Taisui is most often found in normal earth layer, with different burying depth. Taisui is mainly found through seeing, tramping, and digging. Taisui findings lack subjective motivations and are connected with the life and production of the finders. Conclusion: Taisui is an object growing in earth layer.

Performance Assessment and Configuration Analysis in the Study of SCADA System (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)

Queuing models are used to assess the functionality and aesthetics of SCADA systems for supervisory control and data collection.Here,the main emphasis is on how the queuing theory can be used in the system’s design and analysis.The analysis’s findings indicate that by using queuing models,cost-performance ratios close to the ideal might be attained.This article discusses a novel methodology for evaluating the service-oriented survivability of SCADA systems.In order to evaluate the state of service performance and the system’s overall resilience,the framework applies queuing theory to an analytical model.As a result,the SCADA process is translated using the M^(X)/G/1 queuing model,and the queueing theory is used to evaluate this design’s strategy.The supplemental variable technique solves the queuing problem that comes with the subsequent results.The queue size,server idle time,utilization,and probabilistic generating factors of the distinct operating strategies are estimated.Notable examples were examined via numerical analysis using mathematical software.Because it is used frequently and uses a statistical demarcation method,this tactic is completely acceptable.The graphical representation of this perspective offers a thorough analysis of the alleged limits.

Comparison of four models for end-stage liver disease in evaluating the prognosis of cirrhosis

AIM: To investigate the prognostic value of the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) and three new MELD-based models combination with serum sodium in decompensated cirrhosis patients-the MELD with the incorporation of serum sodium (MELD-Na), the integrated MELD (iMELD), and the MELD to sodium (MESO) index. METHODS: A total of 166 patients with decompensated cirrhosis were enrolled into the study. MELD, MELD- Na, iMELD and MESO scores were calculated for each patient following the original formula on the first day of admission. All patients were followed up at least 1 year. The predictive prognosis related with the four models was determined by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of the four parameters. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were made using the cut-offs identif ied by means of receiver operating characteristic (ROC). RESULTS: Out of 166 patients, 38 patients with signifi cantly higher MELD-Na (28.84 ± 2.43 vs 14.72 ± 0.60), iMELD (49.04 ± 1.72 vs 35.52 ± 0.67), MESO scores (1.59 ± 0.82 vs 0.99 ± 0.42) compared to the survivors died within 3 mo (P < 0.001). Of 166 patients, 75 with markedly higher MELD-Na (23.01 ± 1.51 vs 13.78 ± 0.69), iMELD (44.06 ± 1.19 vs 34.12 ± 0.69), MESO scores (1.37 ± 0.70 vs 0.93 ± 0.40) than the survivors died within 1 year (P < 0.001). At 3 mo of enrollment, the iMELD had the highest AUC (0.841), and was followed by the MELD-Na (0.766), MESO (0.723), all larger than MELD (0.773); At 1year, the iMELD still had the highest AUC (0.783), the difference between the iMELD and MELD was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Survival curves showed that the three new models were all clearly discriminated the patients who survived or died in short-term as well as intermediate-term (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Three new models, changed with serum sodium (MELD-Na, iMELD, MESO) can exactly predict the prognosis of patients with decompensated cirrhosis for short and intermediate period, and may enhance the prognostic accuracy of MELD. The iMELD is better prognostic model for outcome prediction in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.

Effect of Different Reproductive Stages and Culture Times on Domestic Cat <i>in Vitro </i>Oocyte Maturation

The domestic cat has been used as a model to carry out comparative research in assisted reproduction, to be applied in wild cats. The efficiency in domestic cat IVM concerning the reproductive status and/or cultivation times has previously been investigated;however, the studies were carried out separately. The objective of this research was to evaluate the maturation of oocytes of domestic cats of different reproductive stages using two different in vitro culture times. The ovaries were obtained by Ooforo-Salpingo-Hysterectomy of cats that were of the following groups: 1) prepubertal, 2) follicular, 3) pregnant or 4) in anestrus. Maturation was carried out with TCM199 medium supplemented with BSA for 24 h and 48 h. On average, 29 ± 25, 20 ± 15, 17 ± 9 and 17 ± 13 oocytes/cat were recovered from the prepubertal follicular, pregnant, and anestrus stages, respectively, but did not show a significant difference (P > 0.05). Also, meiotic maturation did not show a significant difference between the different reproductive stages at 24 h and 48 h, respectively (P > 0.05). However, in the prepubertal and follicular stages, greater oocyte maturation numbers were observed at 48 h compared to 24 h (P < 0.05). In contrast, the aforementioned result was not observed in the pregnant and anestrus stages (P > 0.05), indicating that the in vitro culture duration is an important factor during in vitro maturation of domestic cat oocytes.

Focusing on “the leadership of the CPC and human rights development”, “adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of our times and human rights theories in contemporary China”, “the Chinese path to modernization and the new form of human rights civilization”, “Chinese human rights solutions and global human rights governance”, “making a better China’s story of advancing human rights and constructing human rights discourse system”, and other topics, the participants reached broad consensus after discussion, and the symposium achieved fruitful results.

Research on Modern Garden Architecture in The Fragrant Hills of Beijing

In the early years of Republic of China,Jingyi Garden in The Fragrant Hills of Beijing,the former imperial garden of Qing Dynasty,had turned desolate after the depredation of Anglo-French Allied Force,then the construction of modern garden architecture had started with the operation of The Children’s Philanthropical School of Fragrant Hills.Through reviewing historical literature and field investigation,this paper analyzed the historical background,planning and construction of these modern garden architecture,as well as their types and characteristics,and the utilization of original natural and historical environment of original Jingyi Garden.Based on this,this paper tried to display the historical prospects of modern garden architecture in Jingyi Garden,analyze their characteristics and discover their unique historic value.

They provide readers with different perspectives in evaluating the thematic issues of the novels.

A Brief Analysis on the Differences between the Aesthetic Modernity Pursuits of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art and the Modern Art of the West

Aesthetic Modernity is a western concept.It was based on the development of the historical view.This article focuses on the aesthetic modernity pursuits of modern and contemporary Chinese art and compares it with the western culture and modern art under the concept of aesthetics.It also analyses the problems and causes in the process of modernity of Chinese modern and con⁃temporary art,and presents the advice to the further development of Chinese art.

Differential gene expression profiling of gastric intraepithelial neoplasia and early-stage adenocarcinoma

AIM:To investigate the differentiated whole genome expression profiling of gastric high-and low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia and early-stage adenocarcinoma.METHODS:Gastric specimens from an upper magnifying chromoendoscopic targeted biopsy were collected from March 2010 to May 2013.Whole genome expression profiling was performed on 19 low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia(LGIN),20 high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia(HGIN),19 early-stage adenocarcinoma(EGC),and 19 chronic gastritis tissue samples using Agilent 4×44K Whole Human Genome microarrays.Differentially expressed genes between different types of lesions were identified using an unpaired t-test and corrected with the Benjamini and Hochberg false discovery rate algorithm.A gene ontology(GO)enrichment analysis was performed using the Gene Spring software GX 12.6.The differentially expressed gene was verified using a real-time TaqManPCR assay with independent tissue samples,including 26 LGIN,15 HGIN,14 EGC,and 20 chronic gastritis.The expression of G0S2 were further validated by immunohistochemical staining(IHC)in 24 LGIN,40 HGIN,30 EGC and 61 chronic gastritis specimens.RESULTS:The gene expression patterns of LGIN and HGIN tissues were distinct.There were 2521 significantly differentially expressed transcripts in HGIN,with951 upregulated and 1570 downregulated.A GO enrichment analysis demonstrated that the most striking overexpressed transcripts in HGIN compared with LGIN were in the category of metabolism,defense response,and nuclear factorκB(NF-κB)cascade.While the vast majority of transcripts had barely altered expression in HGIN and EGC tissues,only 38 transcripts were upregulated in EGC.A GO enrichment analysis revealed that the alterations of the immune response were most prominent in the progression from HGIN to EGC.It is worth noting that,compared with LGIN,289 transcriptswere expressed at higher levels both in HGIN and EGC.A characteristic gene,G0/G1 switch 2(G0S2)was one of the 289 transcripts and related to metabolism,the immune response,and the NF-κB cascade,and its expression was validated in independent samples through real-time TaqManPCR and immunohistochemical staining.In real-time PCR analysis,the expression of G0S2 was elevated both in HGIN and EGC compared with that in LGIN(P<0.01 and P<0.001,respectively).In IHC analysis,G0S2 immunoreactivity was detected in the cytoplasmic of neoplastic cells,but was undetectable in chronic gastritis cells.The G0S2 expression in HGIN was higher than that of LGIN(P=0.012,χ2=6.28)and EGC(P=0.008,χ2=6.94).CONCLUSION:A clear biological distinction between gastric high-and low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia was identified,and provides molecular evidence for clinical application.

Studies of Earthquake Hazard Using Microseismicity Data in Modern Times

This paper selects some representative regions to obtain their G-R relation curves according to their seismicity characteristics,by using ML≥2.0 microseismicity data(1970~1993)in North China.The annual occurrence rate of events of each magnitude can be inferred from the G-R relation.At the same tune,the actual annual occurrence rate of earthquakes of higher magnitudes can be calculated from historical earthquakes(1300-1993)recorded in the same region.It seems that both results are almost the same.Therefore,the rate of events of higher magnitudes can be obtained by using microseismicity data when the proper region is selected.However,two points should be noticed:(1)The method can only give the annual occurrence rate in a seismicity system and estimate the whole situation of the system.(2)When there is a very large earthquake in and near the period in which the microseismicity data are applied,the actual occurrence rate of the system,including this larger earthquake,cannot be obtained by this method.

The impacts of timing and insecticides at early stage of late rice on the population development of brown plant hopper(BPH)

Field experiments were carried out in northern Zhejiang Province. Three insecticides (methamidophos,Shachongshuang and triazophos) were used to control the rice leaffolder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis and rice striped stemborer Chilo suppressalis in rice fields during 18—27 days after transplantating. The impacts of timing and insecticides on the population development of brown planthopper Nilaparavata lugens was surveyed by direct counting on the plants or by tapping method.
