Application of Traditional Chinese Culture in Cross-Cultural English Education:A Case Study of the Maritime Silk Road in Guangdong Province

The phenomenon of aphasia in Chinese culture is serious.The existing English teaching materials emphasize too much Western culture education and lack traditional Chinese cultural elements.Therefore,this paper takes the Guangdong Maritime Silk Road as an example to study the specific application of traditional Chinese culture in cross-cultural English education.This paper first summarizes the significance of cross-cultural integration into college English education and then points out the serious phenomenon of Chinese cultural aphasia.Next,the paper focuses on English education,using English textbooks as a starting point to explore and integrate strategies related to excellent traditional Chinese culture from the Guangdong Maritime Silk Road.By integrating traditional Chinese culture into business English classes(with the Guangdong Maritime Silk Road as an example),the study explores the influence of such cultural integration on students’cross-cultural communication skills,cultural identity,and learning effects.The results showed that the P value of the experimental group and the control group was<0.05,that is,cultural integration had a positive effect on improving the effect of cross-cultural English education.The overall scores and cultural confidence of the experimental group are higher than those of the control group,which proves that cross-cultural teaching has a positive effect on the improvement of students’scores.

Study on the Protection of Sites of“Maritime Silk Road”in Haikou from the Perspective of World Cultural Heritage

The sites of Maritime Silk Road in Haikou City are composed of sites of navigation and trade,religious temples and stone monuments,urban construction and coastal defense scattered on the south bank of the Qiongzhou Strait.They played a key role in the formation and shaping of the settlements in Haikou City,recorded the process of intercommunication and integration between Chinese civilization and other regional cultures,and witnessed the germination,flourishing and inheritance of Haikou’s unique marine culture.The mixture of points,lines and planes blends with the urban area and coastline of Haikou City in spatial distribution.In this paper,from the perspective of world cultural heritage,some suggestions for the protection planning of sites of Maritime Silk Road in Haikou City were proposed based on the analysis of historical and geographical background,comparison of domestic and foreign similar sites,and evaluation of cultural heritage value.

The Spread and Integration of Religious Culture Along the Eastern Silk Road

The eastern Silk Road is a product of the mutual exchange of material culture and spiritual culture among ancient China and other countries,regions,and nations.It is the result of the contact and collision between eastern and western civilizations.It is also a strong proof that the Chinese nation implements the policy of opening to the outside world.Historically,the Silk Road served as a bridge of economic and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,closely linking ancient Chinese culture with the cultures of central Asia,west Asia,Persia,and even ancient Greek and Roman cultures.In various regions along the eastern silk road,there were many religions,but not only did they rarely fight with each other,but they were able to live in harmony and develop together.On the Silk Road,various religions developed in parallel,their doctrines absorbed and integrated,and different religions borrowed terms from each other and adopted the forms of other religions,making the silk road a cultural stage for the exchange and integration of religions,which constituted a unique phenomenon in the history of the development of world religions.

Research on the Development and Translation of Tang Culture Tourism in Xi’an under the“Silk Road”

Under the background of the Silk Road Economic Belt,Tang culture tourism in Xi'an has ushered in new opportunities for historical development.This is not only conducive to the promotion of Chinese traditional culture,but also has a profound im⁃pact on improving the status of Xi'an in the world.Among them,the translation work of Tang culture tourism in publicity materials has played a crucial role.Firstly,the background and the current research status at home and abroad are described.Secondly,the problems of Tang culture tourism in Xi'an are explored and analyzed.Finally,the suggestions for the development of Tang culture tourism in Xi'an are put forward from hardware and software development.

Medicine and knowledge of medical practice have been exchanged along the Silk Road since antiquity.Medical texts provide the vast majority of information about the drugs,techniques,and ideas that passed from foreign lands into China and became part of Chinese medicine.In addition to the medical corpus,historical works provide the backdrop for how,when,and from where these ideas and medicines entered and influenced Chinese medical practice.Examining the historical texts and the information pertaining to medical exchange can allow us to better understand how foreign cultures and practices of medicine along the Silk Road entered and influenced Chinese Medicine.

Medicines have been traded along the Silk Road from antiquity until modern times.These products and their associated knowledge have been transferred over the land and sea between Asia,Europe,and Africa.Numerous texts that contain formulas and treatments passed along the Silk Road.Collections of these formulas and treatment methods called formularies contain unique information that informs this transfer of medicine.The texts and information flowed in both directions along these routes and while Chinese medicine influenced foreign medical practices both in history,and today,the incorporation of non-Chinese medicine and information also continues to influence Chinese medicine.

The Spread of Chinese-character Culture on the Silk Road During the Tang Dynasty

The spread of Chinese characters and Chinese classic works during the Tang Dynasty presented diversified discourses of acceptance and development in different periods and regions. This was due to the differences in commercial, economic, political, religious, and cultural environments proportional to the real environment's demand for Chinese characters and Chinese classical works. Chinese characters were introduced to Gaochang, Qiuci, Khotan, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam as early as the Han Dynasty, with different development paths in these regions. It is easy to form a long lasting culture spread by Chinese language and characters, as long as official languages are consistent with national or religious languages of the regions. It is difficult to form a long lasting culture spread by official languages and characters if the official languages and characters are inconsistent with either languages of daily life or religious languages. Once there is replacement of official languages and characters, or a change in religious belief, it would cause incompatibility between official languages and daily life languages, Chinese-character culture is bound to decline and gradually fade way. But if there are Han people, they will retain the use of Chinese characters.

Initially,Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum)was exotic,but it has been playing an important role in the development of traditional Chinese culture and medicine.This article explores the reason for differences in the quality of ancient and modern Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum)by analyzing the essential factors including the prosperity and decline of Maritime Silk Road,the relocation of the producing area,and the process of aroma forming.Based on the development and application of Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum)in Chinese literature and art,traditional Chinese medicine,and folk life over the past 2000-odd years,this article puts contends that Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum),which is endowed with the connotation of Chinese culture and health,should assume its new role as the traditional Chinese medical and cultural carrier on the New Silk Road.

Water in the Mogao Grottoes,China:where it comes from and how it is driven

The Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in China was designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1987 and is famous for its cultural relics. Water is the most active factor that harms the relics in the caves as it damages the grotto murals and painted sculptures. Thus, determining the water sources and driving forces of water movement is a key issue for protecting these cultural relics. These issues have troubled relics protectors for a long time. In this study, the authors chose a representative cave in the Mogao Grottoes and, by completely sealing the cave to make a closed system, measured the water vapor from the surrounding rock. This was accomplished by installing a condensation-dehumidification temperature-humidity control system for the collection of water vapor. The results show that there is continuous evaporation from the deep surrounding rock into the cave. The daily evaporation capacity is determined to be 1.02 g/（d·m2）. The water sources and driving forces of water movement were further analyzed according to the character of the water evaporation and by monitoring the temperature and humidity of the surrounding rock. It was found that the water vapor in the cave derives from phreatic water. Moreover, the yearly fluctuation of temperature in the surrounding rock and geothermal forces are the basic powers responsible for driving phreatic evaporation. Under the action of the yearly temperature fluctuations, decomposition and combination of bound water acts as a ＂pump＂ that drives phreatic water migration and evaporation. When the temperature rises, bound water decomposes and evaporates; and when it falls, the rock absorbs moisture. This causes the phreatic water to move from deep regions to shallow ones. Determining the source and dynamic foundation of the water provides a firm scientific basis for protecting the valuable cultural relics in the caves.
