Reception of Translated Classics of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Spanish-speaking World:A Survey of Seven Spanish Versions of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)

Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations.The present study is the first investigation of the reception of the seven Spanish versions of Huangdi Neijing in terms of three parameters:collection records in libraries worldwide;book reviews and citation counts in international journals;and customer reviews on Amazon.The results revealed four features of Spanish translations and communication of Huangdi Neijing in terms of reception of academia,reception of general readers,the center of translation and communication,and the role of Chinese scholars.These factors demonstrate the marginal status of Spanish translations of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics.The implications are summarized in hopes of promoting the translation and communication of TCM classics in the Spanish-speaking world and to provide insights into the communication of TCM culture in the non-English-speaking world.

China’s booming economy and the growing demand of urban middle class are creating a favorable situation for the development of domestic cultural and creative industry.The consumption pattern has changed and families spend more outlay on cultural products and services.Within this flourishing industry,many museums caught development opportunities and began to get profit through successfully promoting their own cultural and creative products.However,it is unusual that Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum,enjoying high social status and a reputation for world cultural heritage as well as a national 5A level tourist attraction,regretfully,did not achieve noticeable achievements in this area.Therefore,based on STP theory,the purpose of this paper is to study the reasons why this museum fails to fulfill its potential in promising cultural and creative industry and give some suggestions to the development and promotion of its cultural and creative goods.

THEORETICAL ANALYSIS ON THE DEPTH OF NEEDLE-INSERTION

In the present paper, the author sums up and analyzes descriptions about needle-insertion depth in Chinese classical medical book Huang Di Nei Jing (《黄帝内经》The Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic). In many chapters of Nei Jing, the needle-insertion depth is stressed to be various according to 1) the deficiency or excess of syndromes, 2) the patients’ constitution, 3) the severity of disease, 4) the duration of disease, 5) the location of disease, 6) the patient’s age, 7) the location of the needled acupoint, 8) the season, 9) the patient’s temperament, 10) the pulse condition, 11) the state of “Deqi”, and 12) the location of the running course of meridians. In addition, different kinds of diseases and different stages of diseases also need different depths of needle insertion, different manipulating skills and different stimulating quantity.

Research and Analysis on the Origin of the Term“Xinche”in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Its Translation

Translating the terminology of traditional Chinese medicine(Thereafter referred to as TCM)is the core of translating TCM culture.By analyzing the connotation and denotation of the word“Xinche”(心掣)in Huangdi Neijing(Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine),the earliest existing TCM classic,and by comparing different English translations of the term“Xinche,”we hope to provide certain reference for the standardization of TCM terminology and to share some ideas for the translation of TCM classics.

In the present paper, the author gives some comments on acupuncture treatment of diseases from 1) selecting acupoints based on seasonal conditions; 2) performing reinforcing or reducing needling manipulations in accordance with the waxing and wanning of the moon; 3) conducting acupuncture treatment in accordance with the time and the state of disease; and 4) performing acupuncture treatment based on the prosperity or decline of the meridian-qi, which are described in medical book The Yellow Emperor’s Internal

三焦学说的传承与演变探析

三焦的形态结构模糊,病变之变证、兼证繁多,故历代医家对于三焦学说都有不同见解。在形态结构方面,历代医家主要继承了《黄帝内经》的三焦“有名有形”论和《难经》的三焦“有名无形”论,在此基础上演变出了脂膜、腔子、腔府、油膜、膜腔、缝隙腠理等学说,并结合现代医学剖析三焦的形态结构。在功能方面,从《黄帝内经》的“决渎之官”“中渎之腑”“传化之府”到《难经》的“三焦为原气之别使”,历代医家大多立足于三焦的气化功能,探讨营卫、少阳、五脏、命门相火、温病等与三焦的相关性。
