The Chinese Association for International Understanding Holds the Civilisation Lecture in Bulgaria

On May 5th,the Civilisation Lecture was held in Sofia,Bulgaria,hosted by the Chinese Association for International Understanding(CAFIU)and China Today of Bulgaria,organised by the China Cultural Centre in Sofia and supported by the Embassy of China in Bulgaria.Liu Hongcai,Vice-President of CAFIU and former Vice-Minister of the IDCPC,Wang Min,Chargéd'affaires of the Embassy of China in Bulgaria,and more than 50 guests from all walks of life in both countries attended the event.Bulgarian Vice-President lotova and Deputy Speaker Ganev sent written speeches to the event.

Simulation of the Thermal Environment and Velocity Distribution in a Lecture Hall

The rational design of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems is an important means to achieve energy conservation and sustainable development.The simulation of air-conditioning systems with finite element methods has gradually become an important auxiliary means of complex airspace design.In this paper,a k-εturbulence model is used to conduct 3D simulations and optimize the summer air conditioning system of a lecture hall.Various conditions are considered in terms of fresh air temperature and flow rate towards the end to improve comfort.The approach used in this paper could also be used in the future as an auxiliary model to promote the design of other lecture halls and ladder classrooms.

Therapeutic Communication Methods Targeting Families and Family Members: A Literature Review

Background and Purpose: Therapeutic communication is a new term in family health care nursing, defined by Hohashi (2019) as a method of family intervention, and characterized by inclusion of not only verbal conversation but also nonverbal interaction. However, specific therapeutic communication methods have not been systematized. The purpose of this study was to clarify therapeutic communication methods for families/family members from the perspectives of verbal communication and non-verbal communication through a review of existing literature. Methods: We conducted a search using the medical literature databases PubMed and Ichushi-Web using the keywords “therapeutic communication”. Analysis was performed on seven articles from PubMed and 14 articles from Ichushi-Web that described therapeutic communication methods performed by healthcare professionals for families/family members. Through directed content analysis, therapeutic communication methods were subcategorized, and classified into three categories: verbal communication, non-verbal communication, and verbal/non-verbal communication. Results: A total of 23 subcategories were extracted. Verbal communication included 11 subcategories, such as “asking questions using the communicatee’s words as they are”. Non-verbal communication included five subcategories, such as “noticing changes in the content of the communicatee’s story”. And verbal/non-verbal communication featured seven subcategories, such as “making the communicatee aware of one’s own beliefs”. Conclusion: Therapeutic communication methods included basic care/caring in family interviews/meetings, as well as verbal communication and non-verbal communication that act on family/family members’ beliefs. It is believed that changes in family/family members’ beliefs can be used to eliminate, reduce, or improve problematic conditions in the family. .

Understanding Lecturers＇ Well-being From the Aspects of Self-determination Theory

There are five changes in higher education across the world in the 21st century. The five changes include changes in the university students, changes in the professoriate, changes in academic administration, intemationalisation, and assessment of academic work. These changes are evident in higher education in China. The pressure of the changes -on lecturers will have effects on the wellbeing of lecturers. The study discusses the wellbeing under the Self-determination Theory. This theory views wellbeing as a state of happiness. This theory also proposes that people＇s intrinsic goals like personal growth, meaningful relationships, and community contributions can enhance the satisfaction of three basic needs--need for autonomy, need for competence, and need for relatedness. In this way, lecturers can experience a sense of wellbeing. The findings of the study are significant for leaders in higher education who need to implement policies that foster effective work environments.

Chinese International Students' Attitudes to the Teaching Methods of Lecture, Seminar and Tutorial in UK Universities

The ability to comprehend academic lecture is an important part of the necessary proficiency of tertiary level students for whom English is a second or foreign language. The purpose of this research is to investigate the lecture-perceived experience of one non-nativespeaking learner who attending her English medium lecture course in the first semester in New Zealand. It describes how the learner perceives the lecturing experience, the problems she encounters and the strategies she use to overcome these problems.

Report on the 9^(th) International Congress on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies

The 9th International Congress on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies, sponsored by the Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International （PSOGI） and organized by the Netherlands Cancer Institute, was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from October 9 to 11, 2014, with over 650 delegates from 66 countries attending the meeting. With the central theme to summarize the global progresses in peritoneal carcinomatosis （PC） diagnosis and treatment, to draft the outline framework of international guidelines on PC treatment, and to formulate the future international collaborative research programs, this congress has set the new historical milestones in the global joint-effort to conquer PC. Major highlights of this congress are reported here.

Analysis and improving ways for water condition in winter wheat field of dryland in subhumid areas of the Loess Plateau

Based on the soil moisture data from the locating experiments from 1986—1990, and using the water balance method, the water supply and demand state in the field of winter wheat, and the ways for improving water condition in dryland of dry subhumid area of the Loess Plateau were studied. The results suggested that a low precipitation satisfying ratio of 42.9%—58.8% appears in the growing period of winter wheat, and the yield, to a great extent depended on the water that was stored in deep soil layer in the previous rainy season. The filed trial results showed that tillage in the summer fallow period,straw cover, soil moisture regulation with adequate fertilization, crop rotation and proper cropping system could be the efficient ways for improving the water condition,and for the exploitation and utilization of natural water resources(both precipitation and soil water) in the winter wheat field of dryland.

Risky Meetings Despite Knowledge of the Risk: A Qualitative Study of Young Adults Treated for Chlamydia Infection at a Sexual Transmitted Infection Clinic

The aim of the study was to describe the attitudes to risk behavior among patients diagnosed with a Chlamydia infection at a Sexual Transmitted Infection (STI) clinic. Qualitative interviews face-to-face were conducted with twenty patients, aged 18 - 30 years, with confirmed Chlamydia infections were included. An interview guide was used and the participants described the behavior that had led to the infection. The material was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Eighteen informants were included and the theme was risk. Recurrent among the informants was risk behavior in sexual relations when using alcohol, while risk behavior in life in general was almost non-existent. Of the 18 informants, sixteen had previously been tested for STIs, and ten had had an STI before. Alcohol consumption emerged as a common denominator among the informants and as a contributor to risk. In contrast, almost none of the informants exposed themselves to any unnecessary risks in life in general.

Islamic Banks Impaired Financing： Relationship Between Shariah Committee Meetings Frequency and Shariah Risks Compliance on Assets Quality

This study made a pioneering attempt to econometrically examine what factors determining impaired financing using shariah committee meetings frequency from data on Islamic banks in Malaysia and how does it affects on the quality of assets. The objective of the study is to improve assessment of their assets quality so as to increase the reliability of the financial statements. The European Central Bank may find the findings from this study useful in their exercise to assess risks and assets quality of their commercial banks, a move to tackle the ailing banks in centralizing oversight supervision in late 2014. The major components of the Islamic banks＇ assets quality are impaired financing and provisions for financing impairment. In the Islamic banks, shariah committee principally manages the shariah risks non-compliance with other risks; however because their management is not straightforward, the study uses the shariah committee meetings frequency as an indicator of the assets quality. The study found the less-than-full frequency of shariah committee meetings resulted in less guidance and conformation of shariah principles, and consequentially the quality of the assets.
