That is, the two...Local coupling instability will occur when the numerical scheme of absorbing boundary condition and that of the field wave equation allow energies to spontaneously enter into the computational domain. That is, the two schemes support common wave solutions with group velocity pointed into the computation domain. The key to eliminate local coupling instability is to avoid such wave solutions. For lumped-mass finite element simulation of P-SV wave motion in a 2D waveguide, an approach for stable implementation of high order multi-transmitting formula is provided. With a uniform rectangular mesh, it is proven and validated that high-freqaency local coupling instability can be eliminated by setting the ratio of the element size equal to or greater than x/2 times the ratio of the P wave velocity to the S wave velocity. These results can be valuable for dealing instability problems induced by other absorbing boundary conditions.展开更多
Cantilevered pipe conveying fluid may become unstable and flutter instability would occur when the velocity of the fluid flow in the pipe exceeds a critical value.In the present study,the theoretical model of a cantil...Cantilevered pipe conveying fluid may become unstable and flutter instability would occur when the velocity of the fluid flow in the pipe exceeds a critical value.In the present study,the theoretical model of a cantilevered fluid-conveying pipe attached by an inerter-based dynamic vibration absorber(IDVA)is proposed and the stability of this dynamical system is explored.Based on linear governing equations of the pipe and the IDVA,the effects of damping coefficient,weight,inerter,location and spring stiffness of the IDVAon the critical flow velocities of the pipe system is examined.It is shown that the stability of the pipe may be significantly affected by the IDVA.In many cases,the stability of the cantilevered pipe can be enhanced by designing the parameter values of the IDVA.By solving nonlinear governing equations of the dynamical system,the nonlinear oscillations of the pipe with IDVA for sufficiently high flow velocity beyond the critical value are determined,showing that the oscillation amplitudes of the pipe can also be suppressed to some extent with a suitable design of the IDVA.展开更多

The strain reduc...The paper describes the damping effect of lead alloy absorber (LAA) by shake table test and finite element method of a kind of high-voltage electrical equipment, LW11-252/Q SF6 Circuit Breaker (LSCB). The strain reduction of the porcelain bushing of LSCB is defined as the damping effect of LAA in the paper based on the damage pattern of test equipment under earthquake. The test results show that LAA has reduced the acceleration response and strain response of the LSCB, at the same time, it does not increase the displacement response of the LSCB. There is a reduction of 30% in the strain of porcelain pipe. Moreover, the stronger the input ground motion is, the larger the reduction will be. The finite element method also indicates the damping effect of LAA, especially under ground motions with significant long period contents and ground motions with velocity pulse. Combined with the test results and calculation results, the paper gives the applicability of LAA finally.展开更多
