"The Chinese Communists and the Chinese people are full of confidence to supply the human beings witha Chinese blueprint for the exploration of a better social system." The grand transforming from the old globalizationto the new one serves as a historical field domain for the Chinese blueprint to come on the stage. The neo-Chinesemodernism surpassing the western modern and linear logic has become the essence of the Chinese blueprint aiming atthe great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. The logic of the localization of Marxism in China needs to focus profoundlyon the problems China, hold fast to the Chinese standpoint, gaze at the Chinese field of vision, create Chinese theo-ries and Chinese Discourse, and become the subjective condition of a Chinese blueprint, To compose a Chinese blue-print of "a better social system", it is necessary that the Chinese academics especially the localized Marxism in Chinashould innovate, adhering to the "Four Self-confidences", to go to the world creatively, on the base of summarizingconstantly, comprehensively and thoroughly the experience of the exploration for a Chinese Path. The presence of aChinese blueprint signifies a grand transforming of the age of neo-globalization from "the world coming to China" to"China going to the world", signifies a sharp rise of "the community of human destiny" in the context of the age ofneo-globalization, signifies a historical undertaking by the localized Marxism in China of the great mission of goingto the world and taking the lead of the human development. 展开更多

Owing to the negative view of Hong Kong English(HKE)in popular discourse, few English lecturers in Hong Kong universities directly acknowledge or discuss the variety in a non-linguistic course. This paper illustrates an action research study of how HKE may play a role in an academic writing course of a sub-degree program in Hong Kong.Focusing on 8 representatives from an academic writing course with 100 students,it employed the qualitative experiment method to examine whether students who had possessed basic linguistic knowledge of HKE from an additional tutorial would perceive HKE and academic writing differently from those who had not.Student representatives from each group were invited to a focus group to explore ideas about the two subjects discussed in class.Their conversations suggested that prior knowledge of the syntactic features of HKE might raise students’awareness of the grammatical differences between the variety and the standard. The analysis also suggested that introducing the linguistic view of HKE to students might render them optimistic about their variety, helping them identify the situations where the variety would be tolerant of and settings where Standard English would be expected. The study suggested that such an intervention might facilitate students’learning of Standard English for academic purposes and practices of English in actual professional communication.Upon the improvement or advancement, they will position themselves more powerfully in the dichotomy between the standard and non-standard.More formal research on a similar or relevant topic is required to validate the impact of understanding HKE on learning academic writing. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Journal Impact Factor™(JIF)is often used to evaluate the relative reputation and quality of academic journals in their respective fields, and can greatly influence the quality and scope of subsequent manuscript submissions. Therefore, many if not all academic journals are interested in increasing their JIF,to improve their academic impact.AIM To determine the importance of the integrity of the editorial and publication process in improving the academic influence of academic journals and the JIF of academic journals.METHODS In this paper,we describe our statistical analysis of bibliometric factors-including the 2021 JIFs released in the Journal Citation Report™2022,discipline rankings, received and published articles in 2019-2021,and webpage visits and downloads-for seven journals published by Baishideng Publishing Group(Baishideng)and indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded™;ultimately,we introduce and discuss the editing and publishing processes of Baishideng’s journals in their entirety,as they form the basis for our objective of safeguarding and bolstering integrity in academic publication.RESULTS For the seven journals assessed, their 2021 JIFs were basically unchanged from 2020,with the current metric ranging from 5.374 for World Journal of Gastroenterology(WJG)to 1.534 for World Journal of Clinical Cases(WJCC).Further assessments of the journals’bibliometrics from 2019 to 2020,showed that World Journal of Stem Cells has the highest self-citation rate(1.43%)and World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery has the lowest(0.21%).Additionally,the total 3012 articles published during this period were cited by more than 20000 articles in approximately 8000 academic journals.Of note, the 1102 articles published in WJG were cited by articles in 3059 journals, among which 171 journals have a JIF of>10,including internationally renowned academic journals such as CA-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians(2021 JIF 286.130,record count:1),Lancet(2021 JIF 202.731,record count:4),Nature Reviews Immunology(2021 JIF 108.555,record count:2),Nature Reviews Gastroenterology&Hepatology(2021 JIF 73.082,record count:9),Lancet Gastroenterology&Hepatology(2021 JIF 45.042,record count:8),Gastroenterology(2021 JIF 33.883,record count:19),and Gut(2021 JIF 31.793,record count:21).This suggests that Baishideng’s journals have been widely recognized for their academic quality. In the Reference Citation Analysis(RCA)database, all seven Baishidengpublished journals obtained a 2022 Journal Article Influence Index(JAII).For example,WJG has a 2022 JAII of 22.048,ranking 18th out of 102 journals in the field of gastroenterology&hepatology in the RCA,with 469909 total citations(6/102)and 21313 total articles(5/102).The numbers of manuscripts received and published in 2021 were both higher than those in 2019-2020.For example,WJCC received a total of 3650 manuscripts in 2021,which is 91.1%higher than those in 2019-2020(average:1910 papers/year).In 2021,WJCC published 1296 articles, representing an increase of 105.1%compared to those in 2019-2020(average:632 articles/year).The numbers of webpage visits and downloads received by the seven journals have increased year by year. For example, the number of total visits received by WJG in 2019-2021 was 1974052 in 2019,2317835 in 2020(increased by 17.4%compared with that in 2019),and 2652555 in 2021(increased by 4.4%compared with that in 2020).The visitors were from more than 220 countries and regions worldwide, such as the United States,China, and the United Kingdom.Open access(OA)plays a vital role in improving the quality, efficiency, transparency, and integrity of academic journal publishing. From 2019 to 2021,a total of 5543 OA articles were published in the seven journals,of which 2083(37.6%)were invited and published free-of-charge.During the same period,1683 articles were published in WJG,and the authors were from more than 70 countries and regions. For the total 5543 articles published in the seven journals from 2019 to 2021,3903 article quality tracking reports were received after the online publication of these articles. The quality of the articles was further evaluated through the Baishideng’s article quality and author evaluation tracking system, with 4655 articles(84.0%)having received author evaluation and feedback, which contributes to tracking metrics for authors’satisfaction with the collective publication processes. From March 25,2021 to June 28,2022,the seven journals received a total of 424 reader evaluations and 229 letters from readers;this subsequent reader engagement demonstrates that the popularity of the published articles and the volume of their readership audience were improved through the reader evaluation system.CONCLUSION Ultimately, the findings from our bibliometric assessments indicate that establishing, promoting and actively practicing processes that safeguard and bolster the integrity of the editing and publication process also help to improve the academic influence of academic journals, which itself is the cornerstone for improving JIF. 展开更多

The 16^th International Catalysis Congress (16th ICC) was successfully held in China in July 2016. This paper reviewed the development of catalytic science and technology of China from scratch to small then to large under the efforts of several generations. In 1950s, catalysis discipline was first set up to train early catalytic professionals in Jilin University, Peking University and Xiamen University. Subsequently, a large research team was formed in colleges and universities, the Academy of Sciences, the Enterprise Research Institute to carry out a large number of catalytic researches. Along with the Chinese reform and opening-up, the spring of science came, and the state started to emphasize and strongly support scientific research. Chinese catalytic researchers began to enter the international catalytic academic exchange platform. Famous foreign scientists are invited to visit China and a large number of visiting scholars and foreign students have been sent to the United States, Europe and Japan, many of them have become well-known professors, and grown into catalytic academic elites. The first China-Japan-USA Symposium on Catalysis was held in Dalian in 1982, and it was expanded to become the Asian-Pacific Congress on Catalysis (APCAT), one of the three regional catalytic conferences in the world. After several generations of bidding for the organization of the International Catalytic Congress three times, China won the right to host the 16th ICC. It has effectively promoted the Chinese catalytic academic circles to the international academic ones and improved the influence of catalysis communities in China significantly. The great development in catalytic research and technology has condensed the efforts of several generations of catalysts. To make China a catalytically strong country, there is still a long way to go. We hope that the contemporary scientists can accomplish this historical task. 展开更多

Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to measure author influence in scientific collaboration networks by considering the combined effects of multiple indexes. In the meanwhile,we intend to explore a method to avoid assigning subjective weights.Design/methodology/approach:We applied four centrality measures(degree centrality, betweenness centrality, closeness centrality and eigenvector centrality)and authors’published papers to the scientific collaboration network. The grey relational analysis(GRA)method based on information entropy was used to measure an author’s impact in the collaboration network. The weight of each evaluation index was determined based on information entropy. The ACM SIGKDD collaboration network was selected as an example to demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of our method.Findings:Author influence was not always positively correlated with evaluation indexes such as degree centrality and betweenness centrality. This implies that combined effects of multiple indexes should be considered in author impact analysis. The introduction of the GRA method based on information entropy can reduce the interference of human factors in the evaluation process.Research limitations:We only analyzed author influence from the perspective of scientific collaboration, but the impact of citation on author influence was ignored.Practical implications:The proposed method can be also applied to detect influential authors in bibliographic co-citation network, author co-citation network, bibliographic coupling network or author coupling network. It would help facilitate scientific collaboration and enhance scholarly communication.Originality/value:This paper proposes an analytical method of evaluating author influence in scientific collaboration networks,in which combined effects of multiple indexes are considered and the interference of human factors is reduced in the evaluation process. 展开更多

Purpose:This study aims to construct new models and methods of academic genealogy research based on bibliometrics.Design/methodology/approach:This study proposes an academic influence scale for academic genealogy, and introduces the w index for bibliometric scaling of the academic genealogy. We then construct a two-dimensional(academic fecundity versus academic influence)evaluation system of academic genealogy, and validate it on the academic genealogy of a famous Chinese geologist.Findings:The two-dimensional evaluation system can characterize the development and evolution of the academic genealogy, compare the academic influences of different genealogies, and evaluate individuals’contributions to the inheritance and evolution of the academic genealogy.Individual academic influence is mainly indicated by the w index(the improved h index),which overcomes the situation of repeated measurements and distortion of results in the academic genealogy.Practical implications:The two-dimensional evaluation system for the academic genealogy can better demonstrate the reproduction and the academic inheritance ability of a genealogy.Research limitations:It is not comprehensive to only use the w index to characterize academic influence. It should also include scholars’academic awards and academic parttimers and so on.In future work,we will integrate scholars’academic awards and academic part-timers into the w index for a comprehensive reflection of scholars’individual academic influences.Originality/value:This study constructs new models and methods of academic genealogy research based on bibliometrics, which improves the quantitative assessment of academic genealogy and enriches its research and evaluation methods. 展开更多
