To evaluate and optimize the transport policies ...In communication networks with policy-based Transport Control on-Demand (TCoD) function,the transport control policies play a great impact on the network effectiveness. To evaluate and optimize the transport policies in communication network,a policy-based TCoD network model is given and a comprehensive evaluation index system of the network effectiveness is put forward from both network application and handling mechanism perspectives. A TCoD network prototype system based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode/Multi-Protocol Label Switching (ATM/MPLS) is introduced and some experiments are performed on it. The prototype system is evaluated and analyzed with the comprehensive evaluation index system. The results show that the index system can be used to judge whether the communication network can meet the application requirements or not,and can provide references for the optimization of the transport policies so as to improve the communication network effectiveness.展开更多
Mission critical Machine-type Communication(mcMTC),also referred to as Ultra-reliable Low Latency Communication(URLLC),has become a research hotspot.It is primarily characterized by communication that provides ultra-h...Mission critical Machine-type Communication(mcMTC),also referred to as Ultra-reliable Low Latency Communication(URLLC),has become a research hotspot.It is primarily characterized by communication that provides ultra-high reliability and very low latency to concurrently transmit short commands to a massive number of connected devices.While the reduction in physical(PHY)layer overhead and improvement in channel coding techniques are pivotal in reducing latency and improving reliability,the current wireless standards dedicated to support mcMTC rely heavily on adopting the bottom layers of general-purpose wireless standards and customizing only the upper layers.The mcMTC has a significant technical impact on the design of all layers of the communication protocol stack.In this paper,an innovative bottom-up approach has been proposed for mcMTC applications through PHY layer targeted at improving the transmission reliability by implementing ultra-reliable channel coding scheme in the PHY layer of IEEE 802.11a standard bearing in mind short packet transmission system.To achieve this aim,we analyzed and compared the channel coding performance of convolutional codes(CCs),low-density parity-check(LDPC)codes,and polar codes in wireless network on the condition of short data packet transmission.The Viterbi decoding algorithm(VA),logarithmic belief propagation(Log-BP)algorithm,and cyclic redundancy check(CRC)successive cancellation list(SCL)(CRC-SCL)decoding algorithm were adopted to CC,LDPC codes,and polar codes,respectively.Consequently,a new PHY layer for mcMTC has been proposed.The reliability of the proposed approach has been validated by simulation in terms of Bit error rate(BER)and packet error rate(PER)vs.signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).The simulation results demonstrate that the reliability of IEEE 802.11a standard has been significantly improved to be at PER=10−5 or even better with the implementation of polar codes.The results also show that the general-purpose wireless networks are prominent inproviding short packet mcMTC with the modification needed.展开更多

By significantly expanding the network scale and conducting both real-time and long-term information processing, the traditional Vehicular AdHoc Networks(VANETs) are evolving to the Internet of Vehicles(Io V), which promises efficient and intelligent prospect for the future transportation system. On the other hand, vehicles are not only consuming but also generating a huge amount and enormous types of data, which is referred to as Big Data. In this article, we first investigate the relationship between Io V and big data in vehicular environment, mainly on how Io V supports the transmission, storage, computing of the big data, and how Io V benefits from big data in terms of Io V characterization,performance evaluation and big data assisted communication protocol design. We investigate the design of satellite network slicing for the first time to provide customized services for the diversified applications,and propose a novel scheme for satellite end-to-end(E2E) network slicing based ...We investigate the design of satellite network slicing for the first time to provide customized services for the diversified applications,and propose a novel scheme for satellite end-to-end(E2E) network slicing based on 5G technology,which provides a view of common satellite network slicing and supports flexible network deployment between the satellite and the ground.Specifically,considering the limited satellite network resource and the characteristics of the satellite channel,we propose a novel satellite E2E network slicing architecture.Therein,the deployment of the network functions between the satellite and the ground is coordinately considered.Subsequently,the classification and the isolation technologies of satellite network sub-slices are proposed adaptively based on 5G technology to support resource allocation on demand.Then,we develop the management technologies for the satellite E2E network slicing including slicing key performance indicator(KPI) design,slicing deployment,and slicing management.Finally,the analysis of the challenges and future work shows the potential research in the future.展开更多
In the Acoustics channel,it is incredibly challenging to offer data transfer for time-sourced applications in an energy-efficient manner due to higher error rate and propagation delay.Subsequently,conventional re-tran...In the Acoustics channel,it is incredibly challenging to offer data transfer for time-sourced applications in an energy-efficient manner due to higher error rate and propagation delay.Subsequently,conventional re-transmission over any failure generally initiates significantly larger end-to-end delay,and therefore it is not probable for time-based services.Moreover,standard techniques without any re-transmission consume enormous energy.This investigation proposes a novel multi-hop energy-aware transmission-based intelligent water wave optimization strategy.It ensures reduced end-to-end while attaining potential amongst overall energy efficiency end-to-end packet delay.It merges a naturally inspired meta-heuristic approach with multi-hop routing for data packets to reach the destination.The appropriate design of this Meta heuristic-based energy-aware scheme consumes lesser energy than the conventional one-hop transmission strategy without re-transmission.However,there is no hop-by-hop re-transmission facilitated.The proposed model shows only lesser delay than conventional methods with re-transmission.This work facilitates extensive work to carry out the proposed model performance with the MATLAB simulation environment.The results illustrate that the model is exceptionally energyefficient with lesser packet delays.With 500 nodes,the packet delivery ratio of proposed model is 100%,average delay is reduced by 2%,total energy consumption is 8 J,average packet redundancy is 1.856,and idle energy is 6.9Mwh.The proposed model outperforms existing approaches like OSF,AOR,and DMR respectively.展开更多

Specifi...Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) acting as relay platforms have attracted considerable attention due to the advantages of extending coverage and improving connectivity for long-range communications. Specifically, in the scenario where the access point (AP) is mobile, a UAV needs to find an efficient path to guarantee the connectivity of the relay link. Motivated by this fact, this paper proposes an optimal design for beamforming (BF) and UAV path planning. First of all, we study a dual-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) wireless relay network, in which a UAV is used as relay between a mobile AP and a fixed base station (BS). In the network, both of the AP and the BS are equipped with multiple antennas, whereas the UAV has a single antenna. Then, we obtain the output signal^to-noise ratio (SNR) of the dual-hop relay network. Based on the criterion of maximizing the output SNR, we develop an optimal design to obtain the solution of the optimal BF weight vector and the UAV heading angle. Next, we derive the closed-form outage probability (OP) expression to investigate the performance of the dual-hop relay network conveniently. Finally, computer simulations show that the proposed approach can obtain nearly optimal flying path and OP performance, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we find that increasing the antenna number at the BS or the maximal heading angle can significantly improve the performance of the considered relay network.展开更多
