It is always a collective phenomenon, because it is at least partly shared with people who live or lived within the same social environment. Culture can be classified into several layers of which historical, regional, religious, and social cultures are discussed in this paper. Language and culture are closely related. Certain language reflects certain culture in which the language is used. As two different languages, Chinese and English have their own cultural characteristics and connotations. This paper compares the cultural connotations of Chinese and English color words to see how important the cultural background of a language is in cross-cultural communication.展开更多
A Taylor series expansion(TSE) based design for minimum mean-square error(MMSE) and QR decomposition(QRD) of multi-input and multi-output(MIMO) systems is proposed based on application specific instruction set process...A Taylor series expansion(TSE) based design for minimum mean-square error(MMSE) and QR decomposition(QRD) of multi-input and multi-output(MIMO) systems is proposed based on application specific instruction set processor(ASIP), which uses TSE algorithm instead of resource-consuming reciprocal and reciprocal square root(RSR) operations.The aim is to give a high performance implementation for MMSE and QRD in one programmable platform simultaneously.Furthermore, instruction set architecture(ISA) and the allocation of data paths in single instruction multiple data-very long instruction word(SIMD-VLIW) architecture are provided, offering more data parallelism and instruction parallelism for different dimension matrices and operation types.Meanwhile, multiple level numerical precision can be achieved with flexible table size and expansion order in TSE ISA.The ASIP has been implemented to a 28 nm CMOS process and frequency reaches 800 MHz.Experimental results show that the proposed design provides perfect numerical precision within the fixed bit-width of the ASIP, higher matrix processing rate better than the requirements of 5G system and more rate-area efficiency comparable with ASIC implementations.展开更多
Field experiments were conducted at Cereal Crops Research Institute, Pirsabak, Nowshera, Pakistan, during winter 2003~2004 and 2004~2005 to evaluate the effect of nitrogen and sulfur levels and methods of nitrogen app...Field experiments were conducted at Cereal Crops Research Institute, Pirsabak, Nowshera, Pakistan, during winter 2003~2004 and 2004~2005 to evaluate the effect of nitrogen and sulfur levels and methods of nitrogen application on canola (Brassica napus L. cv. Bulbul-98) under rainfed conditions. Four levels of S (0, 10, 20, and 30 kg/ha) and three levels of N (40, 60, and 80 kg/ha) and a control treatment with both nutrients at zero level were included in the experiments. Sulfur levels were applied at sowing while N levels were applied by three methods (100% soil application, 90% soil+10% foliar application, and 80% soil +20% foliar application). The experiments were laid out in randomized complete block (RCB) design having four replications. Oil content increased significantly up to 20 kg S/ha but further increase in S level did not enhance oil content. Glucosinolate content increased from 13.6 to 24.6 μmol/g as S rate was increased from 0 to 30 kg/ha. Protein content increased from 22.4% to 23.2% as S rate was increased from 0 to 20 kg/ha. Oil content responded negatively to the increasing N levels. The highest N level resulted in the highest values for protein (23.5%) and glucosinolate (19.9 μmol/g) contents. Methods of N application had no significant impact on any parameters under study.展开更多
The present paper attempts to make a contrastive study on Chinese and English word order with a view of identifying the discrepancies and propose its significance to mutual translation.As to the research methodology,q...The present paper attempts to make a contrastive study on Chinese and English word order with a view of identifying the discrepancies and propose its significance to mutual translation.As to the research methodology,qualitative analysis and com parative analysis are adopted when the similarities and differences of the word order of English and Chinese are explained.It can be concluded that Chinese and English word order differs at the phrase level and sentence level:in terms of the discrepancies in phrase structure,they are mainly manifested in adverbial and attributive phrases;as to the discrepancies in sentence structure,they are reflected in simple,complex and special sentences.展开更多

Behavior targeting(BT)based on individual web-browsing history has become more valuable in precision marketing for many companies through capturing users’interest and preference.It is common in practice that the beha...Behavior targeting(BT)based on individual web-browsing history has become more valuable in precision marketing for many companies through capturing users’interest and preference.It is common in practice that the behavior data collected from different online shopping applications are inconsistent since they are labelled by different item taxonomy,where the same behavior could have different representations and therefore analysis confusion arises.To address this issue,we propose a semantic similarity based strategy to transform the heterogeneous behavior extracted from deep packet inspection(DPI)data of a telecommunication operator into a unique standard one.The Word Mover’s Distance algorithm is exploited to evaluate the semantic similarity of the distributed representations of two web-browsing histories.Moreover,the architecture of the behavior targeting platform on Hadoop is implemented,which is capable of processing data with size of PB level every day.展开更多
