Probe into the Logic and Rhetoric of Propriety in The Book of Songs :Taking “Guan Ju” as the Core Example

The Book of Songs is a book of propriety passing on rites and teaching people by the form of poetry with unique logic and rhetoric.“Guan Ju”is the most typical poem deducing the propriety of humans from the laws of nature,which is acceptable,convinced and obeyed by the people naturally,friendly and eloquently.Therefore,the logic and rhetoric in The Book of Songs can be reconciled and self-consistent in the poetic thinking of the unity of heaven and humans.

AN INTERVIEW WITH PROFESSOR CHEN FENG EDITOR OF THE BOOK A DEPICTION OF TRIALS OF STRENGTH BETWEEN CHINA AND THE US

The Editor’s Note:Recently a book titled A Depiction of Trialsof Strength Between China and the US was published in Beijing.It isedited and mainly written by Professor Chen Feng of China Instituteof Contemporary International Relations.Four young researcher ofthe same institute also participated in the writing.After the book waspublished,it has evoked strong repercussions both at home andabroad.Its first edition has already been sold out and the second edi-tion has rushed through print.Foreign press and news agencies alsopay much attention to the book and have made quite a few comments.Some foreign experts and scholars have asked the publishing house orthe authors to send them a copy of the book.Some overseas publish-ing house have even proposed to purchase the book’s copyright.A-gainst this backdrop,members of the editorial department of this jour-nal has had a special interview with Professor Chen Feng to ask abouthis motive to write the book and some other related matters.Below isa brief record of the interview.

Discussion on Chinese Ancient Literature Translation Based on the English Translation of the Book of Songs

The Book of Songs is an important part of Chinese traditional culture and enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad.This article is based on Turi’s theory of translation norms,and takes the English translation of The Book of Songs·Jing Jing by Richard Jacob and Xu Yuanchong as the research object.Comparative studies are made on the historical nature of understanding,the normativeness of translation,and the application of the fusion of horizons in the two versions of the Book of Songs.Incorporating history into translation brings the translation closer to the roots of history.The comparative research method proposed in this article can be widely used in various ancient literature studies,and has important theoretical and application values.

An Analysis and Comparison of Sufferings in The Book of Job and Tianwen

Both the ancient Israel classic The Book of Job and Asking Heaven written by Qu Yuan from the state of Chu in the Warring States Period of China are composed of questions,conveying the characters’queries and doubts about the universe,human affairs,ethics,etc.This paper analyzes and compares the theme of suffering reflected in the two classics by generalizing similar features of suffering caused by physical loss,broken relationship and spiritual trauma,and revealing several perspectives of differences as well.This research enriches the ideological studies of this area,contributing for a more profound knowledge of suffering from the perspective of cultural communication,as suffering is not a national but universal challenge.

Untranslatability in Onomatopoeia Translation—A Case Study of the Book of Songs

Classical poetry is a kind of special classical literature with highly concise language,rich emotion,profound implication and certain rhythm.The development of poetry translation is related to the spread of Chinese classical culture.There are many opinions about translatability and Untranslatability of poetry translation.The translation of meaning is relatively easy,while the rhetoric technique closely related to the form of expression is more difficult,which is the key to express the poet's feelings.There⁃fore,this paper aims to explore the untranslatability of onomatopoeia in poetry by combining with the Book of Songs.

A Study on the Metaphorical Translation of Pound’s Book of Songs from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics

The Book of Songs is the first collection of Poems in China,which is a very important milestone in the history of Chinese literature.There are abundant metaphorical expressions in The Book of Songs,providing valuable resources for linguistics,rhetoric and literature research.This study selects the most representative metaphors of women and marriage in The Book of Songs as the research object.Guided by Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory,this study explores the metaphorical translation in Pound’s Book of Songs from the perspective of cognitive effect.It is found that Pound mainly adopts the translation strategies of vehicle equivalence,vehicle conversion and metaphor to simile in the process of translating female metaphors and marriage metaphors in The Book of Songs.

The Universal Grand Unified Theory Based on Life and Thought

The universe is life, which includes galaxies, living beings, society and man-made worlds. The universe is unified in life and thought. Confucian Thoughts in Ezra Pound＇s The Pisan Cantos

The Pisan Cantos （1948）, Ezra Pound＇s great epic, which reflects major social, cultural, and historical themes, is based on Western and Chinese cultures, especially Chinese Confucian thoughts. This paper attempts to provide an analysis of Confucian classics and Chinese characters/ideograms as cited in The Pisan Cantos, and to present the unique way in which Pound expresses his emotions and enriches his poetic art. Since, Chinese culture that emphases such concepts as ＂benevolence＂ and ＂sincerity＂ offers a more philosophical and poetical foundation to the cantos, it is understandable that The Pisan Cantos embodies Pound＇s ambition to reestablish the war-ruined Western world by Chinese Confucian thoughts, which he regards as an important foundation stone for establishing an idealistic regime

释“左右流之”的“流”

《关雎》篇"左右流之"的"流",毛传释为"求"。"流"用作"求"义仅此一例,"求"义也不可能由"水流"义引申出来,"求"义应该是"流"字的假借义。问题是,"流"表示"求"义时是哪个字的假借字?从文字假借之语音相同相近的要求看,从古文字的形体演变来说,从同族词的系统性探讨,从方言遗存来看,"流"应该是假借了"渌"的意义。"渌"表示从水中取物,此义正符合诗歌的语境。
