Managing Tourism Development in the Dutch City of Utrecht using a Linear Programming Model of the Tourist Carrying Capacity

As one part of the Landstad International Metropolitan Area,Utrecht has become known as one of the best tourist destinations in recent years,with the rapid growth of worldwide travel trends.In this paper,through the adaption of the linear programming model,the paper intends to not only quantify the optimum number of visitors to Utrecht but also formulate a number of policy recommendations based on the reconstruction of this optimum.The paper draws the following conclusions:(1) tourist carrying capacity of Utrecht is not yet exceeded;(2) restrictive accommodation policy does not currently seem necessary;(3) the cultural-historical attractions are not yet optimally used;(4) investing in strategic provisions is currently not necessary.And from the conclusion,the paper further puts forward the following suggestions on the city’s tourism development strategy:(1) to identify "tourist flood plains";(2) to encourage the tourist disclosure of these alternatives;(3) to invest even more explicitly in residential tourism and,where possible,curb day tourism;(4) to introduce a new business model.

Study on Environmental Capacity and Sustainable Development Strategy of Scenic Areas ——Taking the Scenic Area of Slender West Lake in Yangzhou for an Example

Taking the scenic area of Slender West Lake in Yangzhou for an example, the quantitative evaluation model of environmental capacity and impact factors limiting sustainable development of scenic area were put forward, and targeted control measures were correspondingly proposed.

Study on the Sustainable Development of Tourism Industry in Gongga Mountainous Areas in Western Sichuan

There are abundant excellent tourism resources in Gongga mountainous areas (Mount Gongga, also known as Minya Konka, the highest mountain in Sichuan, China), yet the development thoughts and management modes in this region are far away from the advanced level in other mountainous areas in China or abroad due to the insufficient knowledge about ecotourism. Generally speaking, tourism development in Gongga mountainous areas are limited by various problems such as lack of overall development plan, system support, brand image, financial support and environmental protection consciousness. In view of the present situation of tourism development in this region, sustainable development measures are proposed on the basis of ecotourism and sustainable development theories, including making ecotourism development plan for Gongga mountainous areas, improving transportation conditions, tourism infrastructures and accommodation facilities, training service and management personnel with professional ecological knowledge; establishing ecotourism product system of Gongga mountainous areas; carrying out ecotourism management, innovating management system, setting up ecological monitoring system, implementing scientific functional division of tourism sites, constructing environment capacity control system and disasters management system of mountainous areas, improving medical and mountainous assistance system. Natural conditions and economic development of Gongga mountainous areas are similar to those in western China, it is expected to provide theoretical basis and practical experience for developing the vast mountainous areas in western China through studying the sustainable tourism development of Gongga mountainous areas.

Spatial differences of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)among counties(cities)on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains

The county(city)located on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains is the primary area to solidify and extend the success of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China in poverty alleviation.Its Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)are intertwined with the concerted economic and social development of Xinjiang and the objective of achieving shared prosperity within the region.This study established a sustainable development evaluation framework by selecting 15 SDGs and 20 secondary indicators from the United Nations’SDGs.The aim of this study is to quantitatively assess the progress of SDGs at the county(city)level on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains.The results indicate that there are substantial variations in the scores of SDGs among the nine counties and one city located on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains.Notable high scores of SDGs are observed in the central and eastern regions,whereas lower scores are prevalent in the western areas.The scores of SDGs,in descending order,are as follows:62.22 for Minfeng County,54.22 for Hotan City,50.21 for Qiemo County,42.54 for Moyu County,41.56 for Ruoqiang County,41.39 for Qira County,39.86 for Lop County,38.25 for Yutian County,38.10 for Pishan County,and 36.87 for Hotan County.The performances of SDGs reveal that Hotan City,Lop County,Minfeng County,and Ruoqiang County have significant sustainable development capacity because they have three or more SDGs ranked as green color.However,Hotan County,Moyu County,Qira County,and Yutian County show the poorest performance,as they lack SDGs with green color.It is important to establish and enhance mechanisms that can ensure sustained income growth among poverty alleviation beneficiaries,sustained improvement in the capacity of rural governance,and the gradual improvement of social security system.These measures will facilitate the effective implementation of SDGs.Finally,this study offers a valuable support for governmental authorities and relevant departments in their decision-making processes.In addition,these results hold significant reference value for assessing SDGs at the county(city)level,particularly in areas characterized by low levels of economic development.

Quantitative Evaluation of Sustainable Development and Eco-Environmental Carrying Capacity in Water-Deficient Regions:A Case Study in the Haihe River Basin,China

Quantitative assessment of development sustainability could be a challenge to regional management and planning, especially for areas facing great risks of water shortage. Surface-water decline and groundwater over-pumping have caused serious environmental problems and limited economic development in many regions all around the world. In this paper, a framework for quantitatively evaluating development sustainability was established with water-related eco-environmental carrying capacity （EECC） as the core measure. As a case study, the developed approach was applied to data of the Haihe River Basin, China, during 1998 through 2007. The overall sustainable development degree （SDD） is determined to be 0.39, suggesting that this rate of development is not sustainable. Results of scenario analysis revealed that overshoot, or resource over- exploitation, of the Basin＇s EECC is about 20% for both population and economy. Based on conditions in the study area in 2007, in order to achieve sustainable development, i.e., SDD〉0.70 in this study, the EECC could support a population of 108 million and gross domestic product （GDP） of 2.72 trillion CNY. The newly developed approach in quantifying ecoenvironmental carrying capacity is anticipated to facilitate sustainable development oriented resource management in waterdeficient areas.

Further development and sustainable utilization mode of grassland tourism resources: a case study of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China

Tourism resources are important foundation for the development of tourism industry.Grassland is not only a kind of important resource but also a great attraction to visitors.Therefore,the integrated development and sustainable utilization of grassland tourism resources are of great significance.This paper,based on the analysis of literatures and the current problems existing in grassland tourism,summarizes the speciality of grassland tourism development,deals nation as example and carries out empirical research.Based on the status quo of grassland tourism resources in Inner Mongolia,this study analyzes the characteristics of grassland tourism resources,the necessity and feasibility of integrated development,then proposes the following suggestions： idea for development,mode of development,regional cooperation,tourism products development,especially the three modes of development based on the resources conditions - the mode of relying on market,the mode of combination aggregation and the mode of relying on quality.

The Discussion on the Interaction and Integration of Modern Agriculture and Rural Tourism Sustainable Development

The thesis summarizes the connotation of rural tourism and divides it into six types,including rural sight-seeing,rural body-building activity,rural folk culture,rural experience of farm work,rural business affairs,and study and development.It outlines the theory of sustainable development of rural tourism and points out that what sustainable development of tourism concerns is the coordination of ecology,economy,and society centering on human and nature.On the basis of introducing the connotation of modern agriculture,it divides modern agriculture into six types,including sightseeing agriculture,leisure agriculture,green agriculture,characteristic agriculture,factory agriculture,and three-dimensional agriculture.And by concluding,it obtains the combination model of modern agriculture and rural tourism.Based on the introduction of the above related theories,the thesis discusses the interaction and integration model of the sustainable development of modern agriculture and rural tourism.It emphatically analyzes the integration model of modern agriculture and rural tourism,including pastoral agriculture tourism model(sightseeing village,leisure farm,citizen farm),and science education tourism model(agricultural science and technology education base,tourism and leisure education agricultural park,children's,agricultural education base,agricultural exposition).Based on the interaction and integration relationship between modern agriculture and rural tourism,the thesis puts forward corresponding countermeasures so as to promote their positive development and realize the maximum of ecological,social and economic benefits.

The Issues Facing the Sustainable Development of Rural Tourism and the Path Selection

There is a long way to go for sustainable development of rural tourism.It is necessary to strengthen the planning for training rural tourism talents,and establish sustainable reserve tourism service personnel;innovate upon the promotion mode of rural tourism and open the tourist source market;strengthen the building of characteristic brand of rural tourism,and create sustainable development core of tourism;give play to the role of government in guiding rural tourism,strengthen the optimization of management of rural tourism market environment,and enhance the rural tourism safety;expand the rural tourism industry chain,and strengthen the management planning of sales market of rural tourism product.

Tourism Development in UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites： The Case of Sicilian Volcanic Sites： Mount Etna and Aeolian Islands

Local development often depends on tourism, especially in fragile contexts like islands which represent a special cluster and are the best cases to be analyzed in order to highlight positive and negative aspects of economic development driven by tourism. A sustainable development approach should be taken in account and the UNESCO brand plays a fundamental role in this sense. The aim of this paper is to analyze the link between tourism supply and the growth of tourism demand in the case of UNESCO sites through multivariate regression analysis. The results show a correlation between the variables considered. But the actual structure of supply is still built on conventional sea tourism and is not yet organized to host and attract tourism demand connected with the UNESCO active volcano area. The UNESCO brand could guarantee a new approach for local tourism development if associated with a specific tourism supply structure.

The Prospects for the Development of Geotourism in the Area of the Wadi Rum Desert

The main objective of this study was to present the possibilities of the development ofgeotourism in the area of the nature reserve and the UNESCO World Heritage. The scope of the research included the directions of the transformation of the existing development of tourism and the use of the Wadi Rum Desert, in the opinion of the local Bedouin population and their activities involving the promotion of geotourism and the increase of the competitiveness in the further development of tourism. The observations and the records of tourism as well as the diagnostic tests among the Bedouin tribes living in the area of human settlements on the desert of Wadi Rum were conducted. According to the local community, geotourism was a very positive factor in the economic development of the rural settlements and the desert region. It was considered that the most important in the development of geotourism was the preservation and strengthening of the geological heritage of the desert as well as its use in tourism. The young people could see the opportunities to create new jobs, and the increase in the economic development of the region. The challenges that geotourism in Jordan must face are primarily to encourage and make tourists interested in the natural and cultural values of the region. Additionally, the coherent platform for the exchange of the experiences between the spheres of science, business, and government as well as non-governmental organizations should be created.

A Model for Sustainable Tourism Development in Inland Latin American Areas＂ The Case of the Northern Region of Nicaragua

Central American countries＇ globalisation processes have improved macro-economic situations, as in the case of foreign debt, the same cannot be said for human development, where traditional societies have not had the capacity to respond to instruments introduced through the new knowledge society. Linked to this, tourism and services provide an opportunity to these countries because of the wealth of both their natural and cultural tourism resources. However, these developments must embrace sustainable models of tourism and to achieve this, tourism must not be presented as an end in itself, but rather as a tool for development. Here, we apply the model for integrated tourism development to the area of study （the Northern Region of Nicaragna, Las Segovias）.

The Contribution of Special and Alternative Forms of Tourism to the Sustainable Development of Tourist Destinations:Case Studies

This paper aims to investigate the impact of special and alternative forms of tourism on the sustainable development of tourism destinations,revising the traditional position of tourism development and establishing sustainable development as the only solution to tourism progress of travel destinations.The study includes conceptual approaches to the term tourism,sustainable development and specific and alternative forms of tourism and delves into theoretical approaches that are the bridging of these three central research questions.This is followed by in-depth research through policy analysis of central institutions and regional development stakeholders,as well as further analysis of sustainable development through special and alternative forms of tourism.Key tourism models and theories offer a further understanding of the natural“enemies”and“allies”of sustainable development and how they contribute to its necessity or development.Through a survey and a case study of travel destinations,we conclude the need to couple the term tourism development with sustainable development which is rooted in the healthy coexistence of residents and visitors with respect to the environment,local culture and productive-controlled economic growth.

Discussion on the Integration of Rural Tourism Development and Ecological Civilization Construction

The development of rural tourism and the construction of ecological civilization complement each other, but there are some contradictions between them. The focus of rural tourism development is marketing, while the construction of ecological civilization tends to be unprofitable, so the integration of the two is conducive to promoting the sustainable development of rural economy. Based on this, the current development situation of rural tourism industry in China and seven classical models of rural tourism were expounded in this study, and the problems and drawbacks in the process of planning and development were deeply analyzed, then the integration method was proposed, so as to achieve the integration of rural tourism development and ecological civilization construction from the perspectives of tourism ecology and ecotourism.

Ecological development of tourist souvenir industry is to improve the red tourism ecological environment,which is an important measure to promote the sustainable development of the industry. This paper takes Shaoshan as the object of analysis, from the ecological level of Shaoshan red tourism souvenirs, the production process and manufacturing process, theme selector, quality and functional design, market operation, recycling of resources and ecological consumption behavior etc. It analyzes the existing problems of the ecological development of Shaoshan red tourism souvenirs, on this basis, it puts forward measures and suggestions of promoting the ecological development of Shaoshan red tourism souvenirs.

A Study on the Sustainable Development of Tourism under the Perspective of lnternet Travel Consumers

With the rapid development of China＇s tourism market and the gradual improvement of people＇s pace of life, tourism has become an important way to relax people, so the proportion of tourism consumption in people＇s daily consumption gradually increased. In the context of the continuous development of Interact technology, consumer network characteristics become more and more obvious, followed by the emergence of a new consumer groups, that is, travel network consumers. Tourism network consumers as a new consumer group develop rapidly. The rapid development of the Internet has led to the great changes in the tourism industry. However, because of the tourism developers＇ only immediate interests, wanton development of tourism base, and the weak public awareness of tourism, the environment caused serious damage. This paper elaborates the concrete manifestation of the sustainable development of tourism, analyzes the adverse effects of the tourism industry on the ecological environment in sustainable development, and puts forward effective measures to promote the coordinated development of tourism and environmental protection.

Study on Effective Measures of Environmental Protection for Sustainable Development of Tourism Industry in the World Natural Heritage Wulingyuan

In the course of exploiting its tourist resources and developing tourism industry in the early days in Wulingyuan, the government did not pay enough attention and no forceful measures were taken to control the environment. As a result, a series of problems are produced. By analyzing the relationship between the tourism development in Wulingyuan scenic area and its environmental evolution, the paper exposes the basic reason why these environmental problems are produced, and according to the requirement of developing tourism, the paper puts forward some effective measures to reasonably control the distribution of the tourists flow and to protect tourist resources as well as the environment, so as to achieve the sustainable development of the area.

Development of Sustainable Tourism on the Example of the Montenegrin Coast

Sustainable tourism represents a form of tourism which generates and creates economic benefits for the local community and at the same time takes care of the local ecosystem as well as the culture and customs of the local community.This form of tourism is mostly convenient for rural areas which have contained their natural and socio-cultural uniqueness.Unfortunately,the potentials of Montenegro for developing this form of tourism are slightly or almost hardly exploited.A crucial limiting factor for developing ecotourism is a lack of an overall strategy which would stimulate and enhance the development of many potential tourist destinations which did not valorise their tourists during the development of ecotourism,as well as those tourist destinations which did so but in an improper and insufficient way.The aim of this paper is to point out the state and possibilities for developing ecotourism based on sustainable tourism in selected areas along the Montenegrin Coast and to emphasise guidelines for sustainable development of these areas in the future.This is why an empirical research has been conducted based on the method of semi-structured interviews.By developing ecotourism and managing resources in accordance with sustainable development of this area,a high quality tourist product could be offered to the market.

Research on the Development of Green Hotels in the Context of Low Carbon Tourism

With the continuous implementation of national measures related to carbon neutrality strategy,the concept of a low-carbon economy has been deeply rooted in people’s hearts.Low-carbon tourism has gradually become an inevitable trend,and the tourism industry is also undergoing orderly transformation and upgrading.To promote the sustainable development of the tourism industry,the tourism and hotel industry should also shift towards a low-carbon and green model.Hotel activities can easily bring related environmental issues,such as energy consumption,garbage generation,ecological pollution,etc.Therefore,building a green hotel will bring huge social and economic benefits to the low-carbon tourism industry.This article will address the above issues and take a low-carbon economy as the starting point,proposing sustainable development strategies and suggestions for green hotels from both the internal and external environment of the hotel,creating a low-carbon management atmosphere,and promoting the low-carbon operation of the green hotel industry.

A Theoretical Model of Cultural Heritage Tourism from the Perspective of Community Participation
